The Grubstake is easy to miss, and that’s a crime. It is hands-down one of the best hamburgers you can get in Seattle, and the location along the Waterfront makes it the ideal place to sit down and enjoy your food and a gorgeous view. The Grubstake is a tiny streetfront operation. Their hamburger selections are pretty basic — just a hamburger, a cheeseburger, or a bacon cheeseburger. You can also get an order of huge fried potato wedges or sweet onion rings, but quite frankly, you probably won’t need it unless you’re starving. The hamburgers are a wonder. A giant patty of fresh-grilled lean beef, thick slices of cheese, and several big strips of bacon, all on a big kaiser roll with fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion. They are almost too large to pick up all at once, and that first bite yields just the right mix of char-grilled meat and melted cheese and fresh veggies. If you manage to plow all the way through this monster, you can sit back with a big smile on your face and just bask in it. All for less than $ 7? You bet your… cheeseburger! When I want a good hamburger in Seattle, the Grubstake is the first place I think of. It can get fancier, and it can definitely get more expensive, but it really doesn’t get much better.
