My son and I made a special trip to The Urban Buggy this morning from Federal Way. I’ve been wanting to check it out for a while now and today was our chance. When we got home to eat(we ordered two orders of chicken and waffles, one chicken biscuit, and one cookie), we found that there was cheese on the chicken and biscuit, and one of our orders of chicken and waffles didn’t have any chicken! The menu didn’t say anything about cheese on the chicken and biscuit(we definitely would have omitted it had we known), and forgetting to include the chicken with the chicken and waffle is kind of a big deal. Definitely disappointing for an hours worth of driving. Aside from the food flaws, the owner was very nice and the facility appeared to be clean. One thing I’d change is the to-go wear. Our waffles were placed in an oversized plastic dish with a plastic lid, the biscuit was wrapped in paper then placed in a plastic dish with a lid, and they were placed in an oversized bag with plastic cutlery. Everything would have been fine wrapped in paper alone, and we personally didn’t need cutlery, so maybe ask customers if they need it first in an attempt to reduce waste. Even with this not so great experience, I will give them one more shot with either their jackfruit tacos, or pulled jackfruit sandwich. Hopefully it’s a better experience!

Holy nuts, this place has some delicious food! Not that they have nuts — or dairy or animal products, either. Deep in the heart of the CD, near 23rd& Jackson, there’s a tiny little luncheonette that makes a wide swath of food that is anything but little in flavor. While the owner, Dennis Comer, is neither vegan nor vegetarian, he not only supports folks who are, but caters to them as well. He and his staff go out of their way to try to ensure that taste is number one, and to prove that even if there ain’t meat in a meal, that doesn’t mean it can’t taste like there is. Or something like that. I’ve been eating here about once every three or four weeks, trying to come in on a different day of the week each time, since the meals rotate. For example, if you’re craving a Grilled Cheese or Sweet potato & Avo panini, you’ll want to come in on a Monday, but if it’s a burger you’re looking for — Friday’s your day. It’s a lunch op, so they are only open from 11 – 3 Monday thru Friday — though they also have Sunday brunch(11 – 3 as well). Their desserts are scrumptious as well, coming from the Brown Sugar Bakery(next door); many of which are gluten free(but don’t taste like it). Doesn’t matter if you are an herbivore or carnivore — you need to stop by this place. Oh — and they cater, too! We had a 25 person event that we brought them in on, and they nailed it. Everyone loved the food — burgers and rubens, with mini red-velvet cupcakes(ohmygod that frosting) fro dessert. This place? Needs to get a lot bigger.

Hubby and I came for Sunday brunch — rotating menu so each day of the week has a different selection! I had the waffles with chick’n — very light and crispy batter with fillets of chick’n placed on top. Vegan butter and maple syrup finished it off! Hubby had a chick’n biscuit sandwich with a slice of cheddar Daiya cheese, and he poured over every bite! We also tried the microbrew pop, pretty good, and the cookies — one was on the harder side(hubby’s preference) and one softer(my preference). Just how the batches came out I think. We wished we lived closer! We would come here often to try the different items on the menu each day of the week :-D P. S. Don’t expect seating, fine dining, reusable serving ware, etc. This is a family run business that is very much a «labor of love.» Plan to take your meal with you in the case that the(two) barstools are already taken.

I opened up Unilocal to find a place I could walk to for lunch one Sunday and The Urban Buggy popped up. «Sure», I said. «I’m not a vegan… but I am flexitarian and enjoy a good fake chicken sandwich.» So, I walked on over and ordered a chicken & biscuit and purchased a container of ginger cookies. The owner was out front smiling and chatting with another local and the girl behind the counter was cheerful and friendly. She was quick with the order and I was on my way. The chicken & biscuit were perfect. If you told me it was real chicken, I wouldn’t have doubted you. The cookies were amazing. And again, I would never have guessed they were vegan and gluten free. Well done! Now, if I only worked from home so I could enjoy you more days of the week! The limited daily menu makes me sad… and the reason for only 4 stars. Sadly, I will only ever enjoy your Sunday menu(also since you’re not open Saturday)

I came here yesterday with my mom. Although we waited awhile for our food, especially for a take-out place, they were extremely friendly and it was absolutely worth it!!! While one of the owners was in the kitchen making our food, my mom and I were drawn towards the majestic smells wafting from their bakery next door. They noticed and gave us a free sample of this ginger molasses brownie… SOGOOD! And the sandwiches had incredible flavor. I’m vegan, my mom is not, but we both thoroughly enjoyed everything. I got the grilled cheese panini, she got the Reuben, and then we both shared the free brownie along with a blueberry scone. I want to go back right now

This place is incredible. The pulled ‘pork’(jackfruit) bbq sammy was amazing. Couple that with super yummy baked goods from Brown Sugar Baking company you just cannot go wrong!

Chicken-and-biscuit sandwich, reuben, from-scratch pop tarts(in cherry, rhubarb and raspberry!) — what a gem! The Central District has it going on.

I’m not vegan, but this place is pretty amazing! Try out the pulled pork on Wednesdays.

This spot is the bomb! Having vegan food close to home is awesome. Not having to trek to capital hill for vegan cookies or veggie chicken and waffles! Awesome!

I lucked out on Friday as they were still open when I walked by at 3:25pm with my son(past normal closing time). We bought a caramel brownie, blueberry chocolate chip cookie and an Easter cookie. All three were excellent. We are not vegan, so, I’ll admit that I was a bit skeptical — but — the treats were fantastic and we could not tell a difference from«non-vegan» baking. A nice addition to the hood. Also — WOW they are friendly.
