World Wrapps

How I heard of this place: Many years ago, a friend (which friend escapes me, now) introduced me to the flavorful, fresh tastes of World Wrapps. It has been since then that I have had the opportunity to go back, but when Ellie suggested it, it was easy to concede!
Type of cuisine: «The first World Wrapps was opened in 1996 in San Francisco, CA by a group of friends who wanted a restaurant that didn’t yet exist: one that served delicious food that was both better tasting and better for you than traditional „fast-​food,“ yet still fit into their fast-​paced on the go lifestyles. The result — real gourmet „meals“ wrapped up in flavorful tortillas that can be eaten anywhere. With the incredible success that soon followed, the founders quickly learned they weren’t the only ones looking for exactly this kind of place.»
Ambiance: Ellie commented that this particular franchise feels very different inside than others she has been to. The space is open and lit by floor-​to-​ceiling windows across the front and side of the space. Tall bar-​like tables and chairs are available at the front, with a view of the lake. Along the side, in a more private space, one can sit at wooden tables and chairs. It is a casual establishment, perfect for a take-​away meal, for children and for large groups of friends before or after a walk around the lake. The order counter is easy to find and the food is delivered to your table when ready.
According to the World Wrapps website, «World Wrapps began as a community-​based, small business and we remain true to that core today. We are active in the communities in which we operate, by giving back to local non-​profit organizations, schools, and neighborhood organizations, especially those that promote health and wellness and support our children. World Wrapps restaurants are a fun, hip place to grab a bite to eat on the run, or sit down and enjoy a quality meal. Above all else, our goal is to consistently deliver the highest quality food and best service possible to our loyal customers, and continue to give our guests a delicious, healthy alternative to traditional fast food.»
What I ordered: Ellie and I shared a wrap at her recommendation: the samurai salmon ($ 7.69 tax included): fresh salmon, avocado, Soy-​Wasabi vinaigrette, daikon sprouts, nori, cucumbers, green onions, jasmine rice and sesame seeds in a spinach tortilla.
What I loved: We both agreed that what makes this wrap perfect is the spicy, nose-​burn, eye-​watering wasabi vinaigrette! But the combination of that with the freshness of the crispy vegetables and soft, juicy salmon made for a delicious lunch.
Why I loved it: It was like sushi in a tortilla! The quick ease of selection and ordering, the freshness of the food and the taste of the wrap (also available in a bowl) was something for which I could easily return.
Cost: Average to high ($ 7 average for a wrap)

I am so disappointed. :(I just went over for a BBQ Chicken Salad, which I had never tried. Upon reaching my desk, I realized the lettuce was in a very sad state– iceburg lettuce old and reddening at the edges, and spring mix greens wilted and soggy. I debated going back in for some time, since I work nearby and see these guys all the time, but finally did. Returned it for a .30 cent loss, which isn’t a big deal, but they made no offer to help appease my lost time and contentment with the place. I’ll be going to Zeeks for lunch instead.

I’m taking 2 stars off for the décor and ambience and one off for the food.
They take overdoing it to a whole new level. Fake plants, animals, and ancient artifacts are everywhere. No where in the world looks like this store does. Imagine walking into a plastic rain forest in Disney land. Its scary.
The food was okay, nothing special, overpriced for what you are getting. My dad’s Bento Box was horrible. He said the pot stickers were close to «inedible» and threw more than half of it away. The food also took awhile to get made when there was almost no one there.

World Wraps is for you!!!

I walked into this place with pretty low expectations, but I was very pleasantly surprised! The Spicy Caribbean Sole wrap was really tasty with mango salsa and fresh avocado, yumm. Plus, there were many things on the menu I wanted to try.
It is probably more like 3.5 stars, but being able to substitute brown rice on anything definitely bumps it up another .5 for me! I will definitely be back soon to try something else. Finally I’ve found a healthy, tasty place to eat while at Greenlake!

Hmmm… perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing. I just think teriyaki and rice belong in a bowl and not a tortilla wrap… but nonetheless I tried it anyway. I ended up opening the wrap and eating what was inside. I think I might try something different next time. My boyfriend seemed to be a fan of his steak wrap. It was really clean and I liked the look of this place and loved the big bottles of hot sauce on the tables… this place was just ok.

A great atmosphere and location right next to the lake but I was hoping for a bit more out of this place.
The food selection is great with everything from taco’s to teriyaki but it didn’t quite live up to it’s potential.
The prices were decent and free refills always makes for a happy Xandy, but I was expecting a little more. A decent place to try, and I will probably give it another before I right it off.

I wish I came here more often. I never think of coming here, but whenever I have one of their wraps, I’m definitely satisfied.

What this place has that’s SUPER DUPER: wrap sizes! You get to pick small, medium, large, and MACHO.
I can wholeheartedly get on this wrapp train. Too often I go out, get a macho macho size burrito, and proceed to stuff my face with all of it; a. because it’s there; and b. because I think I might be addicted to anything wrapped in a tortilla.
At World Wrapps I chose the small version of the tofu tequila wrap, which came with jasmine rice, vegetables, and teriyaki sauce. It was the perfect amount. Like, a ¼ the size of an average burrito I can take down if given the chance.
I felt satiated and happy. I want to see burrito/​wrap/​wrapp places in Portland jump on this thing. I *did* think spending over 5 bucks for the small size was a little steep though.

OMG… the wraps. I’m going to have dreams about this place. When I set off for long trips I’m going to Google my destination AND World Wrapps locations. I’ve eaten here just once, but it was enough to let me know that when hunger strikes, I’m going to be reminded of the Samurai Salmon wrap I ate at this place. It was like eating a sushi roll in a spinach tortilla. All the ingredients were fresh and yummy. The staff wasn’t anything I could comment on; they did their jobs and kept their mouths shut. :-) All I know is that they took our order and served it up. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was… well… it’s Greenlake, folks. It was awesome.

So here’s my World Wrapps gab. After running Green Lake and warming down, I turn to my friend and suggest that we find something to drink/​eat. By now my lower calves are cramping and the birds are chirping, the sun is out, and my stomach is growling. Yes, this is the norm in Greenlake. We cross the street on the North side of the Lake by Lake Realty, and there’s World Wrapps. It fit the bill because I didn’t want to go to Zeeks or Duke’s.
Well, for around 10 bucks I got a Blue Mango smoothie with a Vitamin C boost, a bowl of tortilla soup, and a very tasty wrap (I think they are all tasty). The tortilla soup was average, but it was good for a wrapp restaurant. The smoothies are the thing I will come back for again and again after running. For 4 bucks you can get a huge smoothie with a protein boost and that should cover an after-​run dinner.
Here’s where the 4 star thing comes in. The owner and manager cleared our table, poured us water, and thanked us for our patronage. The service here was better than a lot of restaurants I’ve been to. Good things here.

Healthy, tasty, cheap — that my friends is a combo that cannot be beat.
I also like the fact that you can get a small wrap. As opposed to a burrito that is bigger than my head.

We are a family of World Wrapp fans. I just discovered this location and it is open everything night of the week (including Sunday) until 9 p.m. Many other locations do not have evening hours (lunch crowds). Easy seating and nice patio space for good weather. There is a Zeek’s pizza next door as well as a «mix its» ice cream if you haven’t good your fill with a Wrapp.
