We actually ordered from here by accident. What a great mistake! Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection! Garlic and brown sauce were very tasty. We have found our new go-to spot for Chinese take out! Definitely give this place a try

The General Tso’s chicken is great. The dumplings are good but the sauce that comes with them always tastes a little off from the usual dumpling sauce at other places. Overall one of the best places in the area.

Being from Chicago, I had acquiesced that fast Chinese food is greasy, low quality, and all tastes the same. Eating the food at China East has become the highlight of my travels to Long Island. This is truly a family restaurant with homemade dumplings that have soft, thick skins that taste amazing when steamed and fried. The pork inside is so flavorful, something that you don’t find in Chicago Chinese restaurants. I would never order seafood at a Chicago, Chinese food or otherwise, restaurant for fear of that frozen, fishy taste. But one of my favorite dishes here is the broccoli and shrimp in the brown sauce. Never too oily, the sauce is perfectly flavored with garlic and slightly sweet but mostly savory. The shrimp are huge, tender, and cooked perfectly. The broccoli is steamed nicely. The BBQ spare ribs are delicious as well! My mouth is watering just thinking about their slightly smokey flavor! The service is fast and friendly. They offer free deliver under an hour. That is UNHEARD of in Chicago. For reals, people need to realize how awesome FREE delivery is and tip accordingly. They also stuff the boxes of rice and their entrees are huge. China East has become the standard by which I rate my Chinese food experiences here in Chicago, and I have yet to find a place that tops it.

Good is pretty good, people are nice, prices are reasonable, go here couple times a week. This establishment is always clean.

One can not expect much for a fast Chinese take out place. The small restaurant was not appealing and did not look sanitary. The lady that took my order was very patient and generous as I picked through the huge menu. The preparation of the food was very quick and well made. I was satisfied with the food overall, and it is definitely a place to order from if you’re looking for a quick Chinese food lunch/dinner.

This makes no sense… we drove out here all excited for dumplings and the tofu dishes listed on the menu here and instead we walk into a complete dive where NOTHING is different from the dives by us. No tofu options. No homemade dumplings. What the heck??? Does Unilocal have the wrong address listed? Went to Tao’s Delicacies instead which was AWESOME.

This place has great food. The lunch is a good deal for $ 6.52 with soup or soda. The sesame chicken is crispy with gooey brown sauce, and the boneless ribs are lean cut and cooked just right with some crisp.

I have to differ with many of the reviewers here. I found the place to be dirty, and the woman usually at the counter is very unfriendly most of the time. The rice didn’t taste fresh, and the chicken was overly chewy. It wasn’t horrible, but I’d recommend looking elsewhere for quality Chinese food.

Best Chinese food in the area hands down. Love their beef and broccoli, and their egg rolls aren’t as greasy as most places. I don’t go anywhere else. Only place that compares is out in Merrick.

They overstuff as much chicken and broccoli into their pint sized container that it needs to be stapled closed. A+ for quantity for price of food and effort. Don’t get their fried, thick skinned dumplings, which looks appetizing in the pictures, but is very mediocre. You get that stuff for 1⁄5 the price with 100% better taste in Flushing.

Worst fried rice ever. I got the beef with broccoli and the brown sauce was so bland. Their fried cheese wontons were OK though. Save your money and go elsewhere.

After reading some of the reviews I decided to give it a try. This food was terrible! It was border line rancid(the fried rice must have come out of a pre cooked pot, from a day ago) I would give it — 5 stars if I could, I do not like to throw my hard earn money away.

I drive 40 minutes out of my way just to get Chinese food from here. I really like the boneless spare ribs. Mix them with white rice! The sauce is so good. The garlic sauce is thick and sweet and there’s a lot of different kinds of vegetables. And the portions are really big. They really fill the containers up here. The paper containers are usually overflowing and have to get stapled shut, and they don’t skimp on meat. Really good value!

Don’t get me wrong, EVERYTHING I have ever ordered from China East has been great. The food is always fresh, the recipes always consistent and the portions always generous but if I had to sum up this place in three words… BBQSPARERIBS! Best I have ever had! I grab an order at least once a week. If you’re a fan of ribs, you have to give them a try. 2 things of advice… 1. Get them on the bone!!! The boneless are really good, but on the bone are GREAT. 2. Grab a rack on a Tuesday! Rumor has it that is when they are at their best.

I am usually in the shopping center and order here frequently. The food is very good especially chicken fried rice. Great shrimp and chicken dishes too. I recommend only when the food is very good. Enjoy…

I am rarely in Selden but recently I went there and decided to go to Chinese East for the reason that i was craving chinese food and expected excellence because of the 5 stars. Looks wise, it is a very small building that, when I visited, had a piece of paper poorly taped to the broken door and steam on all the windows so you couldn’t even see into the restaurant from the outside. It’s very small, definitely nothing fancy, but sometimes the tastiest chinese restaurants are like that so I was still very hopeful. I went around lunch time so the prices were very fair and it seemed like a place to get a quick bite. Contrary to the 5 star rating, I found that the food wasn’t that good. I found the rice to be bland, the chicken tasted undercooked and the sweet and sour chicken sauce to be far more sour then sweet oppose to other chinese restaurants. I travel a lot so I’m always tasting different foods with different qualities and as far as chinese food goes, this was one of the worst. I gave it two stars however because the service was great, the prices are fair and they deliver. Otherwise, I wouldn’t recommend it.

This place wasn’t so bad. Been craving for Spare Ribs and that hit the spot. Also, I ordered the mixed vegetable dish as well and I must say, other restaurant I would be disappointed, but this time I was very please. The Lo mein and the Cury clear noodle I wasn’t a fan of. I would probably void the noodle dishes.

In an area overrun by Chinese takeouts(one of the three essential food groups of Long Island, the other two being pizza and bagels!), this second generation restaurant is exactly what you picture when you think of great Americanized Chinese food. The recipes here have been passed down with very little alteration or shortcuts. The pork for juicy wontons and savory dumplings are still ground in-house. The brown sauce is still brewed from scratch, and the garlic in the garlic sauce still minced by hand. The dumplings are hand-wrapped, as are the wontons and crab rangoons/cheese dumplings. All of the vegetables are fresh and never frozen, and the marinades remain family recipes, with all ingredients blended by family members. And the ribs! They’re not the smoked, fall-of-the-bone Southern barbecue style ribs, but they’re juicy with a nice crunch, and not too sticky sweet like other places. The chicken wings are oversized, and five wings really mean ten, if you count the way wing joints do. Chinese takeout is still one of the most affordable ways to grab a quick bite or feed the family, and China East has resisted increasing prices for many years in an effort to remain affordable — tough to do in this economy, especially with the mom-and-pop shops taking deep hits due to fewer concessions for volume prices. Pro-Tip: They’re happy to customize for nominal upcharges(like in my photos), and it’s worth the dollar extra or whatever to add an egg to the fried rice. Yomz!

I must say this is the best Chinese takeout I’ve ever had. I personally know the owners, but I can’t be anything but objective. The portions are quite large especially for the reasonable prices, and the food is delicious. The homemade dumplings are super juicy and flavorful! The Moo Shu is another favorite of mine, but everything I’ve had is great. Mostly a takeout place, but there are a few clean tables if you get takeout and just can’t bear the ride home. Love this place and the family that runs it!
