The first time we went there for Dinner. We ordered from the Menu. Goat Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala were good. Goat Biryani is also too good. But the next time which is yesterday on a Sunday we went for Buffett. Very bad food. All the curries looked like with lots of water rather than the ingredients. The utensils they put the curries in are not so clean. Very less food in the utensils. As soon as we enter they did not show us even a place to sit until we ask for one. One of the staff member is very rude. 2 times in a row he is very rude and did not know how to attend the customers. But definitely not a good place for Buffett. Very bad quality of food. Weekend buffett is very bad means and I could not imagine how a weekday buffett would be. May be worst of worst.

Been here numerous times and always found the food to be fresh, tasty and the lunch buffet is unbeatable. I have no problem recommending this place!

Kind of disappointing. Ordered the Chicken Curry. The curry was pretty tasty. However, for nearly $ 13, the portion was rather small and very disappointing. I was served maybe 10 small equally cut chicken cubes, along with several fragmented minute pieces of chicken. The Chicken Curry meal was excessively overpriced for the portion size. The service, well… Was not great. I was sat without being given a menu for 10 minutes. Later, after finishing my meal. My empty plate of food(dirty dishes) sat in front of me, which went completely unnoticed by the service staff for over 15 minutes. During my meal, and during the times waiting for service, there were only two other tables sat in the entire restaurant. Most likely will never go back to this restaurant.

Their lunch buffet is great. Especially if you don’t like typically hot Indian foods. They could do a better job of labelling the vegetarian foods in their buffet though.

Ding-ding! We have a 5-star winner. Unilocal not disappointing with the plethora of great reviews. There’s not a lot of wow-factor Indian dining in the Danbury area, so we travel out a lot. You’ve got Jaipore in Brewster, but we stumbled on this gem in the exact opposite direction. Everything we had was amazing. Appetizers(shrimp pori and fried cheese cubes) and entrees(lamb madras and chicken tikka masala). Fairly priced on all fronts. AND they have a great back deck that overlooks the river. See my picture with the Kingfisher. Also I cannot fail to mention everyone on staff was super friendly. Memo to the owners: speaking of the view, there is one big tree that is blocking what could be an even better view. I would take it down, but it’s probably on someone else’s property for sure. Get it on, Baingan!

The last time we tried an Indian Buffet was last year in Birmingham, England and by comparison Baingan’s is so many times better. Deliciously fresh! Variety that satisfied all palates! Service that was indeed friendly and an owner you’d appreciate having as a friend and neighbor. So happy they were opened today, Memorial Day, and to learn they NEVER take a day off. Three cheers and we and our families will return.

Jewel of the Nile. My friend and i were craving some indian food after a week long meeting and happened to find this restaurant, and we were SOHAPPY we did. First off, the location is amazing. Right on a hill side over looking the river. I felt like i was in Kerala. The Staff were very friendly and attentive. The food came out fast and everything was delicious. We ordered Lamb Biriyani, Shrimp Poori(best poori ive ever eaten), Chicken Tikka Masala, Naan and Samosa. All were cooked perfectly and served hot and fast. The taste was amazing and this is definitely in my top 10 of Indian restaurant experiences ever. HIGHLYRECOMMEND this restaurant.

Quality of the buffet have went downhill. Saag paneer is no longer on it. More and more fried items and less authentic Indian. Going to try and find a new buffet spot.

Baingan was a great find. The food was delicious and the service was prompt and helpful. The menu is pretty extensive so we will be back to try some different things. Definitely would recommend if you like spicy Indian food!

I’m so happy there is a great Indian restaurant in this area! This restaurant is so good that my Indian coworker who lives in Central New Jersey(home to many excellent Indian Restaurants) can’t get enough of this place!

I enjoyed my experience here so much that I’m truly at a loss for words. How to describe such amazing food and friendly service is escaping me right now. OK, so we get there and are seated right away. The guy filling our water was a little gruff, but we still ended up finding out he had just come to the US a month ago and we chatted some more and lo and behold, he cracked a smile! Our waiter was friendly and very helpful. There was only 2 of us dining and figured we’d share the naan basket with our dinners. He promptly told us that would be too much food for us as it would include 20 pieces of naan. Whaaat? So we opted to share a single order of 4 at less than $ 3. The prices are fantastic and the portions generous. I also can’t say enough about the service. A warning, it is a bit slow, but I don’t think it’s due to to their lack of urgency but rather their desire to provide you with a dining experience; forcing us to relax and enjoy each other’s company. They constantly were walking around, refilling water, asking how everything was, etc. They were always around which is important. A few notable tips. 1) They have a daily afternoon buffet which they say has about 29 items on it. I must check that out. 2) The owner was on the premises and noticed we were newbies and engaged us in conversation. That’s a good thing. 3) The food was fresh and not heavy with oil and grease which when combined with the spices and heat, is what causes an upset stomach and heartburn. We had none of that. And 4) Check-in using your Unilocal app and you’ll get a 15% off coupon immediately pop up that they will accept. Totally awesome.

Average Indian food with excellent, friendly service. It’s a nice spot, with a deck overlooking the river. I found the food very salty, and not especially impressive compared to some other options in the area. Buffet was below average. Not bad if you’re in the area, and very nice people, but I wouldn’t go out of my way again.

We’ve been here twice– no major complaints thus far! The décor is pretty basic; booths, Indian music videos playing– a bit on the darker side. Our server was very friendly & kept our water glasses full throughout our meal. My husband loves the Chicken Jalfrezi– and I’ve had the shrimp version, also good. At our last visit I had something called Cheese Butter Masala. It was basically like a thick, spicy tomato soup with chunks of cheese in it. It was very good! We also love the Naan! My only critique was that our plates were a bit smudgy, could’ve just been soap residue or something– still not appetizing, though.

Delicious! And great service. My boyfriend and I had dinner at Baingan on a Wednesday night date. The curries and naan were fantastic, and I was pleased that the restaurant served goat, a favorite of mine. The servers didn’t speak flawless English, but they were pleasant and attentive. My only(minor) complaint was that all the appetizers were fried, so that by the time we got to dinner we already felt weighed down and greasy. But they were delicious as well! I’l definitely go back.

I was very excited to try this place out and finally made a trip from meriden to shelton today. sadly it turned out to be one of those«indian» restaurants that change authentic recipes for Americans. But they totally ignore that more than half of the customer body is indians who like to eat authentic food. Customer service– non existent. You ll have to raise your hand to get attention. There was this kid barely 15 years old chugging down alcohol behind the bar counter(i think its weird!) if you finally get their attention they are nice though! Food– ordered house special biryani and it had absolutely no flavor and probably 2 liters of oil in it. For that price I expected better! Wont be back.

This is a hidden gem in Shelton! Just amazing authentic Indian food. We tried the samosa, gobi manchurian, paneer makhni and every bit was delicious. Spicy food really means spicy here. the gobi manchurian was by far the best. definitely give this one a try if you are craving for Indian food.
