Grungy, greasy– spoon with plenty of hard working mill– workers and loggers eating huge portions of inexpensive comfort food. The place has seen it’s better days, say in the 60’s, and has that«used» smell, but I’m sure the regulars that patronize the place appreciate the fact they are welcome in their work clothes, sweat and all. We were greeted straight-away, and placed our drink orders. Breakfast is served all day. Hubby ordered the fried chicken– three pieces of chicken, baked potato with all the fixings and an over– mushy broccoli, carrot, cauliflower frozen medley served in a bowl. I had the bacon cheeseburger, moist dripping burger served on a soft bun. It was good in a clogging artery kind– of way. The fries were a limpy warm disappointment. What could have been a stellar fry, if they had been fried longer and served hot! Hear that kitchen!!! The beer is cold, the g&t a good pour. Would we come back– ya, but eat before you use the restroom… I’m just telling ya. It’s nostalgia, a trip backwards and a place to reminisce about diners of our childhood. It’s not pretentious, it is what it is…

Went in for breakfast — sat down — no one approached us for about ten minutes. No menus, greeting, anything. We left. Then the waitress chased us down the street.

Good, solid breakfast at this greasy spoon diner. This place is not pretentious by any stretch! Just a good ‘ol diner that hasn’t changed in decades. The dining room is plain, old, worn, dingy… kinda classic considering its right in downtown Shelton near the railroad tracks and the lumber mill. The breakfast menu is pretty standard– omelettes, bacon, sausage, eggs, french toast, hash browns, home fries, etc. Every time I’ve been here the food has arrived at the table quickly and hot, and the waitress makes a point to make sure coffee mugs remain filled. The portions are large enough to fill up on for a day of work but not so huge that you have to be rolled out the door. Prices are surprisingly low– $ 7.25 for a chicken-fried steak breakfast?! That’s almost unheard of any more! If you like working-class lumberjack breakfast type joints, you won’t be disappointed here. If you’re a ‘foodie’ snob looking for a fine dining experience you should probably look elsewhere.

It is what it is. If you look in and can’t tell what it is, it isn’t what you think it is. It is something else. It is what it is. It’s a greasy spoon diner in a blue collar town. The onion rings are crispy, the fries are a bit limp, and the burger toppings are cold and crunchy. It isn’t special, which makes it special in a non-special ordinary kind of way. But that’s OK — the world needs that too. I’d come back and try the breakfast, which is served all day.

Drove up to Shelton on a beautiful fall afternoon to have lunch with my son. The one positive about La Nina years is that you have these occasionally unseasonably warm sunny days. The fall colors were awesome, the tide was high and anglers or shell-fishers were at every inlet and the Olympics were in full glory. Picked up my son and asked him if he had any ideas since he is living there now and he mentioned The Pine Tree. I have driven by this place pretty much since I have lived in Washington and never had the time and/or the incentive to stop there. But a cool fall day demands the comfort of a diner such as this. Not great food, but good solid carbo-heavy hot comfort food. My son got a really solid looking burger that he said was pretty tasty(only $ 3.00!!)and I got my usual chicken-fried steak and eggs. which were decently priced at $ 7.00 and were hot, not greasy and the eggs were over easy. The service wasn’t anything to rave about, but The Pine Tree had a local«regulars come for the specials» kind of feel and there wasn’t any Green Tabasco on the table but it filled my stomach with warm tasty solid food which is well appreciated on a fall day!

The food was nothing special, but the staff were the friendliest we met during 8 days biking through Washington and eating out every meal.

Service is slow, but friendly. The food will certainly meet your carb loading needs after a night of good drink. Their burgers are exactly what a burger should be. Moving on to the eggs benedict. The hollandaise sause is brown. It was not unlike eating out of a vat of lard. You won’t find tofu anything here, but then again, you shouldn’t expect it either. You’re in Shelton.

A fine diner with friendly service and homemade food. Not particularly seasonal, so I suggest staying away from the fruity dishes when the fruit is out of season — no need to eat an unripe blueberry pancake. A wide assortment of foods. Really kind of a nice place. Plus they have pulltabs.
