First the good, bacon cooked properly, home fries were delicious, and the grits were excellent. Next the mid way stuff, service was friendly but spotty, coffee was strong, but not rich like most Portland coffees. Then the not so good. Pancakes were rubbery, buttered noodles tasted like there was no butter. And the downright weird? They said they couldn’t baste eggs because they didn’t have the right equipment. Whaaaat? That’s a first. I really wanted to like Trees. But, sadly it was mediocre.

CATERING– I highly recommend Trees for catering. I’ve used them twice now and been very happy. I have to plan lunch for 15 people every other month. Trees will plan a fabulous lunch that’s not your standard sandwich and chips. One time we got barbecue chicken breasts, potatoes, green salad, fruit salad, assorted cold beverages and cookies. The next time we got teriyaki chicken, rice, steamed veggies, house salad, brownies and assorted beverages. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauces were delicious. Best of all this was done at about $ 12 per person. Each time everything was ready when I got there. They leave nothing out, which is huge when you have to put on a big meal like this. All the serving utensils, plates, forks, ice… it’s all given to you. I hear they deliver but I’ve just always picked it up. On top of all of that, the staff is super friendly and accommodating!

I have been thinking about this review for a while now. The experience was so uneven it is hard to write. Located on a side street off Roy Rogers the restaurant has a view of trees surrounding it. The warp around patio is lined with tables for two for when the weather is nice, The space is attractive in a somewhat generic way. If I hadn’t looked at pictures I would have remembered nothing but the view and arches… The service was fine though not great. When she noticed an uneaten part of the meal she just joked about the problem… no interest in fixing it. So the food… This was my first visit. I cam with my parents who have been a few time before. I found the meal to be good. I had the grilled shrimp on pesto pasta, it was good but some parmesan cheese would have really helped,(there was no cheese to be seen for it). My mom had the same and my dad had the shrimp with cheesy grits. If there is a next time I will likely have that. It was a big improvement over the pasta.(I am told the salmon with ravioli is just as good). Dessert was a let down. we had the pecan pie with ice-cream. The pie was overheated(perhaps microwaved) served with the filling about the consistency of apple sauce(but not as tasty) with slightly burnt pecans and burnt crust that was so hard my knife had troubles cutting it(flaky it was not). The vanilla ice cream was almost flavorless and not that creamy(most store brand is better). The prices of the meal were ok. One thing I noticed is they had lots of gluten free options with notes of how to make the dish gluten free. For people with gluten issues and wishes the menu must seem like a dream. The location and feel of the place are four star, service a two stars, lunch a strong three but desert was at best two stars. I am going with so so three stars(I would probably feel better about the three stars if the waitress hadn’t joked about the crust.)
