Disgusting! Sushi feels artificial, rubbery, with a sickly sweet taste. Seaweed, rice and everything else was of a terrible quality. Never tasted such bad sushi before. Rolls are really small in size, and they even managed to spoil a simple avocado roll. Placed an order for takeout and even though the restaurant was empty, the order was lost when I returned after shopping, they wouldn’t credit me for my payment and I was forced to wait another 20 minutes. Will never go there again.

It’s okay place. It’s nice to try for experience, but would not recommend this place. The food is pricy and drinks(we had 2 jasmine tea and cost $ 8 which was tea pack). Things on belt was cheap stuff and not as interesting. Portion on the dishes are small and even $ 6 hot plates are not as good and in small portions. We tried dishes from belt as well as dishes ordered specially since they do not have any hot food on the belt. One of calamari dish was so salty. I am not sure why they would make it so salty, no reason for that. Overall disappointed, it was interesting at first, but it wore off after food came out. Would not go back there again.

Really bad service. Not busy time. 3pm in the afternoon. No dish come to the belt. Had to call server over

Interesting concept and friendly service. I wasn’t wowed by the food though and although each dish coming off the conveyor belt is priced low they are like two bites and you need to order a whole bunch of them to satisfy.

I’ve known about Yo Sushi since I first saw it in London way back. When I first heard they were going to open up a US location and one near me, I was so excited! After reading reviews for the Short Hills and Paramus locations however, I was pretty scared. Should I waste my money or should I try it anyway? Well, I had to return something at Nordstrom so I decided to check it out. Lines at Legal Seafood were long so why not right? Yo Sushi is all the way by Bloomies so it’s on that side of the mall. The staff here are friendly and it’s not their fault the sushi sucks. It’s just poor management. Our server was good, not great. The restaurant itself is pretty small for a conveyor belt sushi joint. When we sat down, our server didn’t explain the process to us. I think that is a big mistake. The servers should explain how the restaurant works and instill some excitement into the customers. None of that happened, but it didn’t matter since I knew what I was getting into. All of the plates that kept going around were the same stuff over and over again. None of them had the time/date stamp on it so I found that a little odd. Some stuff also did not have covers on it so I thought that was odd. I also saw some people pick stuff off and put it back. Gross. The plates that kept going around were pretty low quality stuff that I didn’t want to waste my money on. It was the usual cheap stuff like edamame, california rolls or the most expensive plates, nothing in between and definitely none of the good stuff. I should have taken that as a warning sign. We ended up ordering 8 out of 10 plates and they came out one by one. Some of the people that brought the dishes to us called the dishes by the wrong name. I also didn’t get some dishes that I ordered, specifically the soft shell crab. The menu online is also different since the menu online has ikura and the«new» menu doesn’t include it. I am not surprised these two items were missing since they are expensive. A lot of the stuff served here are pretty low grade and not worth a lot. We ordered a tuna maki plate and when it arrived, the tuna was all white. I asked what type of tuna it was and explained the tuna is supposed to be red. The server explained it was white because it’s frozen. Coming here, I knew the sushi would be frozen, but for the server to blatantly explain that that was the reason why the color of my sushi was discolored made me lose my appetite. Our plate of salmon selection came and when the guy put it down. I noticed there was a hair! It was about the size of an eye lash or something. I immediately informed the server. All of this happened within 5 seconds from the moment he brought it to me. I didn’t get an apology or anything. He looked like he didn’t care. I watched him bring it back to the open kitchen and give it to one of the«sushi chefs» and she looked at it like where’s the hair? The least the server could have done was apologize and offer to remove it from my bill. Overall, the sushi is really low quality. The sushi grade is worse than what you would find in a sushi buffet/Chinese sushi place. Now that’s telling you something. The sushi here is not only expensive, but expensive and cheap. If you’re going to pay these prices, you might as well head into the city since the prices are comparable for the number of pieces you’re getting and you’ll get better quality fish. I noticed a lot of the reviews are saying it was awkward to grab plates from the conveyor belt and ordered instead. The whole point of conveyor belt sushi is to get your food off the belt and not order from a menu. It’s gimmicky and fun, at least that’s how my very positive experiences in Japan, California and Taiwan were. It works there so I don’t understand why it doesn’t work here. The management here needs a lesson on how to run a restaurant and how to successfully run a conveyor belt sushi place. They need make a trip to Kula for example in California and see how it’s supposed to be run. If the restaurant steps up and lowers their prices, putting actual quality stuff out, training their staff and quality controlling the food, I think this place can do well. It’s appalling how expensive this place is and for what you’re getting. The tuna and salmon they’re providing are the scraps and not fit to eat. Something else I noticed, we had a family sit down in front of us. They ate a few plates and left very soon. The woman next to us ordered 2 plates and got the check. This is very telling when your customers are leaving so soon. I don’t know if this is a franchise or what, but this place won’t last long at the rate that it’s going. I said it before, but check out how Kula is run and if you can do that, you will be very popular. Last thing, the green tea here(hot/cold) is made by powder and the miso soup comes out of a machine so it’s not the real thing just FYI. Come here and expect not to get anything authentic.

A friend and I went for dinner, and it was a mistake. Our server did not explain what was going on, so we were thrown into the wild world of sushi conveyor belt meals to figure out ourselves. I ordered the pork buns early on, as specific items on the menu need to be ordered from the waiter. The sushi did have time stamps, but it seemed that only a few dishes on the menu were put on the conveyor. We were waiting for items on the menu that, little to our knowledge, were never coming. Waiting for a tempura roll. Waiting for the sun to set. Waiting for the world to end. We settled for mediocre California rolls and tuna, among other dishes, which were all overpriced. It was easy to rack up the bill, as the portions are small, only 4 pieces of sushi at a time. At this point I reminded the waiter about my buns, but he claimed I never ordered them so I awkwardly asked for them again. Finally biting into the sweet, fluffy bun, I let my taste buds assess the situation and they decided these buns were mediocre at best. At each table there is a button to press to call over a waiter, which I did many times for a refill of my water, but he never came. A light would flash at our seats, calling for help in a sea of uneaten sushi and distress, but no waiter would come. We finally gave up, flagged down the waiter, and asked for the bill. When he brought it we realized we should have asked for it split. Our mistake. We kindly asked him to split the bill, to which he replied with a look. You would have thought we asked to harvest his left kidney right then and there. We left unsatisfied. I will not return to this gimmick. The sushi is mediocre, overpriced, and the dining experience is stressful. Go to Qdoba. Go to CPK. Just don’t go here.

First time at a Yo Sushi restaurant. Wanted to find out what all the hype was about. I can sum it up simply as: Supermarket sushi on a conveyor belt. If you like supermarket sushi… you know the stuff… It’s the stuff that’s been sitting there all day, made by some guy who sort of knows what he’s doing, like, just enough to roll up some seaweed and slap some salmon on it… That kind of sushi. If you like that type of stuff, and like to see the same 4 – 5 types of dishes roll by you on a conveyor belt while some mellow EDM plays(spritzed with occasional Japanese phases that I believe translate to «pick up order number 27!») Yosh! This place is for you. If you like all that kind of stuff.

3.5 stars. For a quick, lighter bite in the Short Hills Mall – a good food choice. I had conveyor belt sushi in San Francisco 15 years ago, yet this has a contemporary feel. There are much better sushi places in north NJ, yet this is a good mall light lunch option. Seaweed salad with carrots and dressing was really good. Tuna tatati was ok.

Just left this restaurant very unsatisfied, it’s really bad when you wait 30 minutes for your order and the waiter forgets 3 of the five items you ordered. I guess if you just eat off of the belts you are ok, just don’t order anything, cause it takes so long and the doesn’t come out correctly. I wish I could leave zero stars. I went to get dinner but wasted thirty minutes and 22 dollars. Now I have to go spend more money at another restaurant because I’m still hungry. Thanks for nothing.

The food is good and seems fresh but for what you spend the portions are small and it’s kind of gimmick-ish. There is a large selection to choose from but if you’re like me and eat more than you should, you’ll wind up eating 4 – 5 dishes which could cost upwards of $ 25 – 30. At that price I’d rather go sit down at a proper sushi or Chinese restaurant. We stopped in to eat while in the mall so if you want mall sushi this is your place. You can choose from dishes going around a conveyor belt or order you own meal to the table. Not all dishes are supplied via the conveyor but it’s good to see some of what is offered. The service was decent and the restaurant was clean.

The novelty of the conveyor belt is a really fun concept. But I think what I like most about Yo Sushi is the wide variety of authentic Japanese cuisine: katsu, udon, takoyaki, curry, daifuku, mochi… to name a few. As someone who desperately wishes to visit Japan again, this really scratches the itch. The sushi’s quality is decent but the cooked dishes are quite good.

It’s a very cool experience. Having a conveyorbelt unlimited amount of sushi is so cool. You sit down and you’re immediately able to pick and eat your food. The food is alright, i mean it’s nothing special. The food is set to come out until a certain hour, which is good, so the food doesn’t go cold. The price seems reasonably priced, BUT beware. It adds up really quickly. Going here for a full meal is guaranteed to be expensive unless you don’t eat a lot. For 3 people, an adult and two teenagers, we spent $ 87 including tip. The drinks were pretty pricey as well: $ 2.75 for a coke. The staff are very friendly: there is a help button and they immediately come to you. I would come back to Yo Sushi, but only for a snack.

The service was wonderful. The concept of this restaurant is awesome. So there is a menu that they give u. The price isbpriced according to color. They do put a sticker on the plates so they will take the ones that’s expired out of circulation. My favorite dishes are the spicy calamari(ask for spicy mayo dip with this) and the seaweed salad. The only reason I gave 3 stars was because the soup was very salty and not as good as when I had it in Leeds. The broth was terrible. Management did step in when I complained that it was too salty. They tasted and agreed, they watered it down. I appreciated that they tried to fix the problem. The main reason why I went out of my way to get here was for the soup. I think the broth of the seafood udon was the only thing that stood out for this sushi chain for me and it was not good here. I will not be back.

«Meh» is the best word to describe this place. It’s definitely not good, but not awful, either. I guess I wasn’t expecting great sushi — I know this is a chain. My biggest complaint is that there is very little variety actually on the belt. The menu lists an extensive number of items, but they must be ordered from the waitstaff. In all fairness, anything we ordered was brought to us cheerfully, but it took a *very* long time. While we waited, we watched endless plates of edamame and seaweed salad circle the room. There seemed to be few takers. Unless they start providing greater variety, I won’t be back. Too bad. I was looking forward to something new and fun for a quick lunch at the mall…

The quality is just not there. They use mediocre fish that is clearly thawed and dry. Plus, once you start adding up the plates, there isn’t any value. The only thing I can say positively is that I might consider grabbing a quick roll when I am pressed for time. The convenience factor is high. Otherwise, you can get much better sushi nearby for the same or less money.

Normally when one branch of a chain restaurant has crappy reviews, the same holds true of their other locations. Being the eternal optimist, however, I hold out a glimmer of hope that exceptions to this rule actually exist. Realizing that the reviews of Yo! Sushi in my local mall(Garden State Plaza) are less than stellar, bordering on dismal, I decided to take the plunge and try their Short Hills Mall location. I should have gone elsewhere. The concept is simple, a conveyor belt circles the restaurant where you’re free to select whichever dishes you choose, eat and pay. The problem is that the same items keep making their rotations, kind of like luggage on an airport carousel that keeps going round and round but that’s never claimed. Another problem is that the food is, well, meh. Oh, and it’s not cheap, either. Considering that their initial reviews are fairly bad, I expect them to counter with the same tactic that they used in Paramus where they flooded Unilocal with employees, friends and I would assume relatives’ reviews that were obviously cut & pasted. I find this to be inexcusable. If your restaurant sucks, read the criticism, learn from it and make changes that will make yourself better. Don’t keep serving the same crap i the same way and deceive people. You can fool someone once but without repeat business, I can’t see them sustaining for very long.

Short hills mall has a new place to eat that is very interesting! Picture a conveyor belt with food passing in front if you! If you like something you grab it. Then they charge you by the color of the plate when you are done. Cute idea, fun. Is it the finest sushi? Really, you are in the mall. It is fine, just have fun!

Pass. Kieten Sushi very limited selection, not enough turnover, no philadelphia roll, prices higher than the competition. Skip this mall venue and go to Japan east in Teaneck. WAY fresher, better selections and lower prices. If you like sushi AVOID this venue.
