I’ve been here two days in a row for lunch. I found the sashimi to be very fresh and the portions are large. The miso soup was tasty too with plenty of tofu and seaweed. My only complaint is the service seems slow. The restaurant is quiet at lunch time and running out of water at one’s table should not happen. The servers were very polite but I shouldn’t have to ask for more water.

The miso was pretty good but that doesn’t make up for the low quality overpriced rolls. The fish is minced into a paste and combined with cheap filler flakes(not mentioned on the menu), an unforgivable sin. I won’t be returning.

Nice interior and good food. However, Monster Sushi in NYC and other sushi spots in the area are better. Nothing wrong, but the quality of food and service is not as good as the aforementioned.

I got scombroid food poisoning after eating here! Do NOT order the«super white tuna,» it’s almost certainly escolar, a type of fish that is banned in Japan. Even apart from the food poisoning, the pieces of sashimi are cut sickeningly thick. Maybe some people like this, but I don’t really want to eat big blocks of raw fish.

Had a better experience than many of the Unilocalers before me. Perhaps just got the right stuff. Went with my girlfriend for a late lunch. I ordered house special soup which was just ok but everything else about the meal was great imo. I ordered the Summit Roll which was very refreshing. Highlight of the meal. GF ordered the layered shrimp which was also refreshing and tasty. She ordered the Eli Manning roll which we also thought was very tasty. Edamame was solid and properly salted. Service was a bit slow but not agonizingly so. Would def return if I was in the area.

the sushi is fresh and reasonably priced, atmosphere not great, felt cramped in. I’m not sure if they are related to monster sushi in Manhattan, which I preferred to summit restaurant.

I see no reason to ever go to this restaurant. Taka a short walk away and, in my opinion, has much better food and atmosphere(Monster feels like a fast food place to me).

The sushi was okay but pricey. My Jersey shore roll was $ 16-it was big and the quality seemed okay but it was over-priced by about $ 3 or so.

Ok — I feel bad writing negative reviews in general. I will start on the only positive note, our server was really nice! … My husband and I love sushi. We also recently moved to town and are on a mission to try out all the restaurants. As soon as I stepped in, I knew we made a mistake. The windows are tinted on the outside so you can’t really see the very«blah» interior. It looks more like a lunchtime sandwich shop. But on to the food. After browsing the one page laminated menu(man was I feeling regret at this point) I decided that we needed to go with simple options here. Miso soup, Rock Shrimp, and entrée rolls that were pretty basic. Miso soup — can’t really mess that up, but I noticed that it had an overwhelming amount of tofu and hardly any seaweed. It tasted fine, but was weird. Rock Shrimp. WTF. It was like something from Applebees. It’s served with tortilla chips(???) and has a tomato based chili sauce on it that made me feel like I was eating pizza. AWFUL. The rolls I ordered had probably 4+ layers of rice. So thick that I couldn’t eat a piece whole. I had to basically pick at it and eat the inner portion. The fish seemed okay in terms of freshness but how can anyone tell with all that rice? Their hot food options are probably the safest bet, but when your name is Monster Sushi you’d think they’d be somewhat decent in that area. We should’ve paid better attention to the reviews before going here. I like authentic sushi, not«Americanized» sushi. Never again. :(

The underlining tone of the Unilocal reviews for Monster Sushi suggests mediocre to bad sushi. I completely agree — the rolls were very disappointing. Too much rice, too much fish — seemed like they Americanized the whole sushi experience. Some of their rolls come with dipping sauces other than soy? They do try to get creative, but the execution is subpar. I will say the sashimi appetizers, although lacking in variety, was very good quality fish. Taka Sushi will continue to get my business while I’m in Summit!

Sometimes, you’ll read Unilocal reviews and say either«Might be wrong,» or «Could be right.» Went into dinner here with my wife a few weeks ago while we were in Summit, and regardless of the reviews, wanted to try it out. Unilocalers — keep doing your thing. You were spot on. The app, as I always get in sushi places, was the house salad with ginger dressing. It’s a bench mark for what’s to come. If I don’t like the ginger dressing quality, chances are, I won’t enjoy the meal. It’s not a scientific theory, but it’s proven to work. The sushi here: wasn’t good at all. It was OKAY, but the selection was very Americanized. They only have your spicy tuna, yellowtail, and California rolls. No shrimp roll, crab roll. I was forced to get the«Sea Scallop Surprise.» It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. Quality was a bit off, smelled pretty fishy, which as you know, is a sign of poor quality fish. Pricey for sub-par sushi, which I’m not surprised about. I wouldn’t come back for sure.

The best sushi in all of NJ Amazing. Head and shoulders above the rest. Once you eat at Monster Sushi, you really cant eat anywhere else. Not only was all of the fish beyond FRESH, the flavors infused with the fish was something out of a fairy tale! Delicious Delicious Delicious. This is not your typical sushi experience. The WOW experience is in play at the Monster. I recommend going and explore the menu, it’s extensive and exciting. Go and watch the chef’s work their magic! It is seriously one of the best sushi establishments I have ever eaten at.

I knew we probably shouldn’t have come here because of the reviews. I am extremely picky about sushi and I had the feeling that this place would feel all too American and produced. The clear soup was plentiful and generous on the mushroom and seaweed. Can’t complain but I wasn’t able to finish. The portion was too large. Have to say that the shrimp shumai was great. I ordered the calamari roll and as I suspected, it was very«Americanized» as you can see from my picture. Huge rolls with too much filling, not enough fish, and too much overlooked/chilled rice. Now, I’ll give you that I ordered a calamari roll at a sushi place, but after one look at the menu, I knew that would be my best bet at a place like this. Probably won’t be coming back.

Meh. Lunch specials aren’t the best. The menu is just too large and overwhelming! I couldn’t figure out what to order, it’s easy to get lost in the menu. When i finally did make my selection though, at least I enjoyed the food.

Very yummy, fairly pricey. I’ve never seen $ 24 rolls before! Lunch for 3 with tip was over $ 130! BF had Cali roll and spicy tuna roll topped with tobiko and avocado; his son had the same. I had a crunchy spicy salmon handroll, 2 pieces of eel sushi, and one yellowtail/avo/salmon roe roll(couldn’t finish it all so I have leftovers for tomorrow :) … We also each had shumai, 4 pieces per order. I got shrimp, and the guys got pork. Served with traditional dipping sauce(ponzu? teriyaki? not sure what it is) and a dollop of hot mustard for dipping. We ordered a lot, and sushi is pricey, but wow. Thank goodness they don’t serve booze! A bottle of sake and you’d be pushing $ 200! Cute modern décor with Godzilla posters and Godzilla toy collection behind the sushi bar.

Pros: Great Ambiance, décor, location, and service. Cons: Mediocre rolls, dry Chicken Teriyaki, can be costly. Their sushi was lacking the«MmmM» factor that I always look for when eating sushi. For me, a good sushi roll is a roll that comes together well and packs a punch right off the bat… a roll that makes your eyes open up wide and make you say, «I need to order more of these bad boys.» Unfortunately, I had«Oh my, did I just pay $ 60 dollars for this Chicken Teriyaki that doesn’t even compare to shopping mall food court Chicken Teriyaki,» instead running through my thoughts. Raw salmon and yellow tail lovers… undoubtedly fresh, but not nearly as flavorful as others I’ve had in the past. Chicken Teriyaki — dry and rubbery(the worst marriage ever) I don’t think dry chicken is enjoyable in anyway, not even if you were to smother it with the best sauce in the world. I would probably come back after a few years and give them another try.

When did Monster Sushi get so expensive?! My head was spinning when we walked out of there. We spent $ 30 for 3 hand rolls, which if you have ever had a hand roll, you know they are big, but not that big. I’ve been coming to Monster for years and the quality is always great, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best place around. Sometimes you get stuck in an odd seated area without any ventilation. Pro Tip: Tuna Nachos were delicious.

Monster Sushi and I go way back. I’ve introduced him to several of my friends and each of my friends has thanked me for doing so. The menu is so extensive that the last time I went, my friend almost had a mental breakdown over trying to decide what to order. In any other situation this would be a terrible thing, but take it as a positive aspect of Monster Sushi. You could go back approximately 167 times and not order the same thing twice(I did the math on this one). When you are seated, your waiter brings your table hot towels to wipe your hands and soothe you into the Monster Sushi experience(or in my friend’s case, to help her calm down as she fretted over what to order). Your order comes promptly, and the food is always fresh and cooked(or uncooked in the case of sushi) to perfection. There are dozens of sushi rolls to chose from, each with a witty, unique name. I always get a roll for an appetizer, and an entrée. My favorite that I’ve had so far is the chicken teriyaki. The sauce is perfect. I also order a side of fried rice instead of plain rice because I like to mix things up, and it’s always great. Monster Sushi is an integral part of the«night scene» in downtown Summit on weekends. On weeknights, however, it fills up! There are two other locations in Manhattan, which I am excited to test out! I look forward to introducing Monster Sushi to another friend of mine in the near future!

I have no idea why everyone gushes about this place. All I ever hear from friends and on review sites is how amazing Monster Sushi is and how it’s the best ever. My experience felt like a total rip-off. Over-priced and the sushi isn’t even that good. When I try a sushi place for the first time, I have a standard order I use to evaluate how good the place is — California roll and spicy tuna roll. They are not the most complicated rolls to make by a long shot. They’re standards at every single sushi restaurant I have ever ordered from. Yet, they are often the best indicators of how good a restaurant really is. Back to my review. The California roll, while nice, didn’t live up to my expectations. The avocado wasn’t creamy. The spicy tuna roll had no bite to it. Unless you count it’s uncharacteristic chewiness, which I do not consider to be a compliment. This, to me, is completely unacceptable. If you are going to charge such exorbitant prices for something as common as sushi, you better be amazing. Highly disappointing.

One word: Overpriced(the previous Unilocalers hit the nail on the head) 1. A guest and I each had 2 rolls, a soda(it’s BYOB damn it why didn’t I realize this prior) and a desserts… for $ 100??? 2. Service is good but not enough to warrant a return trip. 3. Sushi wasn’t even that good. Especially for what you pay… 4. Sooo many better places within 5 miles of this place. 5. $ 100 for sushi and no alcohol included… hello red flag(yes I mentioned it 2x because it’s twice as bad). Pass this place up…
