This is my old neighborhood park! It’s actually at the intersection of 2700 Wendy Lane and 1200 Oden Street. This place is virtually unchanged since I located to the area in 1995, save a couple of grateful coats of paint here and there. The play area is made up of iron dinosaur originals, certainly in place since this park’s opening, guestimated sometime in the 1970’s. There is a covered concrete basketball court, an empty swimming pool, and a rarely used softball field. All is kept up and mowed by the city. In it’s heyday this park was a flurry of youthful activity with kids everywhere, doing cannonballs, shooting hoops, the occasional softball game in play. The surrounding neighborhood may or may not be producing generation after generation of kids anymore to play in this park, but I attribute the lack of activity here more to kids playing video games indoors, and this park being somewhat outdated for their entertainment needs. I still like it. But what do I know? I’m a dinosaur!
