This is good food! The fried catfish was delicious… exactly what you want! Good seasoning. The fried chicken wings were good; need more seasoning. The Cole slaw was good(and that’s not an easy fête). The hush puppies, fries, fried okra, & green beans were all good, too! And inexpensive. Two meals were $ 18. It’s a great place to eat when traveling to and fro TX and AL if you’re traveling on I-20.

We stopped here for lunch when traveling through Shreveport. Asked the table across from us what they order and they said you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. We shared one combo plate with 3 fish, 3 shrimp, 3 chicken strips and a gumbo plate. Everything was outstanding. The best fried catfish I have ever tasted! Hush puppies good, gumbo good. Chicken strips so moist & tender. Service great. Hope we get back to Shreveport again. I would eat here all the time if we lived there.

This place is super homey. Catfish and shrimp were very good. The red beans and rice were okay. The fried oysters were undercooked, and he hush puppies and friend okra were stale. These two are staples that should not be served stale or improperly cooked! Hush puppies were also over done and way to crunchy(probably from sitting under a heat lamp) Waitress was super sweet, as was the tea!

Horrid! Service took way too long! Did not split the ticket. The fried oysters tasted old and the breading fell right off and was mushy. They added a fish to both of our oyster orders as the service was so slow. Not busy at all! Okra was dry bland and rubbery. Very disappointed as I wanted my family to have some traditional southern fair on our trip south. I Don’t know how it has good reviews. I would give it negative stars if I could.

Me and my wife ate here before I proposed to her. It was absolutely delicious and somewhere we will always cherish. This place single handily sparked my fried catfish obsession. Sadly I haven’t found a restaurant that compares. We ordered the 4 piece and got 5. If you are looking for an amazing down home fried catfish shack, this is the place. Expect us back in the future!

Sam’s Southern Eatery was a welcome change from the ordinary pit stop on our road trip from Houston to Atlanta. Our server was friendly and the food was delicious. I had the fried chicken salad which consisted of shredded iceberg lettuce topped with tomatoes, onion, cucumbers, pickles(thick sliced dill), and about 2 cups of fried chicken, seasoning and hot sauce, with a fresh lemon. My husband had the Philly cheese steak sandwich, and my son had a burger with fries. The fries were seasoned with a slight kick of cayenne. Definitely worth a return when we can try one of the many shrimp choices on the menu!

After ten hours on the road, my family just wanted a comfy place to stretch our legs, have some Louisiana Sweet tea and southern fried goodness. This cute little place for that bill perfectly. It’s a quaint, yet clean southern styled, barn-type diner. First let me mention portion size. OHMYLANTA!!! I literally ate a quarter of my fried shrimp poboy, which meant about two of their jumbo shrimp. When they say jumbo, they mean large McHUGE! Holy guacamole. Two shrimp and I’m full? Yeah, that big. The hubs ordered the 3 fish, 3 chicken, 3 shrimp platter with fries and okra. He actually got four of everything, and again, everything was super sized! He’s a former college offensive lineman, and could only eat one of everything before he waved the white flag of surrender and pushed violently away from the table, unable to gobble another delicious bite. The only negative knocks were the fact that we waited with our three kids in the lobby area for several minutes before someone finally greeted and sat us, even though several employees made eye contact. Once we met our waitress, it was nothing but friendly professionalism. Our drinks were never empty, and she was very sweet. She made conversation, asking where we were headed, and sharing parenting stories. She helped pack up my kids’ massive quantity of leftovers, and was just a real sweetheart. The hush puppies were a little overcooked and the dipping sauces were a bit of a mystery as to what one or two of them were, but I hardly remember that after tasting the catfish. All that being said, I’d definitely come back. If you find yourself on the west side of Shreveport, you should give it a shot too.

I intended to try the diner earlier this year on New Year’s Day at the location near downtown, but unfortunately, the place was closed. The reviews on Unilocal were so outstanding, it was worth stopping by on my way back to Houston. This location have the down home feel to it. I ordered #26(6 pieces of shrimp and 6 pieces of fish) your choice of fried or grill with two sides of your choosing for $ 12.99. What a deal! My hubbs ordered #27(3 shrimp, 3 pieces of fish, and 3 stuffed shrimp) all grilled except for the stuffed shrimp for $ 18 and your choice of two sides. You get a lot of food for the price, but it seems to lack flavor. Just to give you an idea, I was able to eat off on dinner plate THREETIMES. Crazy… right? The staff seem unprofessional, but other than that it’s not too bad.

EXCELLENT!!! The best fried green tomatoes we have ever had… These are the standard that all fried green tomato should be judged by! The portions are huge, the food is fresh and Kayla our waitress made us feel right at home very sweet and friendly. We’re visiting family and we will make sure to come back here every visit! Enjoy!

Posted pics couple of days ago. I didn’t pay attention to a previous review about LARGEPORTIONS! My son and I were visiting Grambling(GOTIGERS) and tried this for dinner before returning to LA, west coast ya’ll. Anyway, out damn standing! Nuff said. Will return in January with family. Hush puppies a little dark in over cooked. 4.75 stars

We are passing through on I20. The grilled shrimp were really great — the best of the three things we all ordered. Green bean side good as were the small hush puppies tucked into the plate. The portions are enormous be careful. Waitress Simona was wonderfully attentive.

The service when I was waiting was what made me mad. Girls were in the back sitting on their butts and I was standing up at the front to sit down for 7 minutes! And there is only 6 tables with 3 or more people. No one has more than 5 people than one table. The food was good, not seasoned enough but it was still good. Service is a big thing to me. If the girls/boys smile and joke with me then the bigger tip they get. Plus fill my drink up. My drink was empty 2 times for 10 minutes or more. I’m pretty sad about the quality of service and food. And I used to come here a lot year ago.

Food is always really good and you get a lot for your money. I’ve been here before and service was better, but this time something seemed off with the waitresses. Service was slower than usual and I could’ve sworn I’ve paid from my table before. This time I had to pay at the front counter, which is fine, but it seemed like I was the only one that had to do that.

Great casual diner. Huge portions so the 4 piece catfish was plenty. Try it grilled. Seasoned perfectly and comes with grilled onions & peppers

Sweet jumpin’ jeebus… I wish Sam’s was in my city, but am relieved it is not. If this were in my town, I’d have to switch to a muumuu only wardrobe. The visit started off on a not so great note. The first two items we ordered… sold out. So we opted for some wings to start. Basic wings… nothing to wow about. Entrees ordered… 6 oyster plate 3 fish, 3 oyster, 3 shrimp plate 3 fish plate Entrees delivered… 10 oysters and 2 catfish fillets 5 fish, 6 oysters, 5 shrimp 6 fish fillets When we inquire about the order possibly being wrong, the server states…“Oh no… we just can’t count.“ Oysters the size of a toddler’s fist. Jumbo… JUMBO shrimp. I’m talking at least 6⁄8 size if not U5. Catfish fillets were massive and at least 6 ounces each. Everything was lightly breaded and fried to perfection. Off the boat fresh and seasoned perfectly. The catfish… oh man. Hands down the BEST catfish I have ever eaten… anywhere. The sides were no slouch either. Red beans over dirty rice was packed with flavor. So good, we ordered them three times. The portions were so abundant, we ended up having to take 2 full containers with us. One entrée could have easily fed all three of us. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive. I would happily go out of my way on my next road trip just to eat here again.

Me and my boyfriend were passing through on our way home to houston I read some bad reviews yet decided to stop anyways. I don’t understand why anyone would complain about this place. I checked everything bad I saw on the Unilocal reviews. Slow seating(we were Sat instantly) slow service and rude(we were greeted instantly & very pleasantly) dirty restrooms(they very very cleaned and stocked) no uniforms(every person had on blue jeans and a Sam’s shirt) food horrible(was so good & mind you I’m actually from bossier city just live in Houston so I know good Cajun food) very expensive(for 2 meals of 4 shrimp and 4 catfish 2 nicely sized sides and 2 hushpuppies we paid $ 23) so I my mind and my boyfriend’s mind and experience which we eat out a lot of places this place was amazing and will definitely stop again

This is an expensive piece of fried heaven type place :) They have quick service and delicious fried shrimp. The best thing about Sam’s Southern Eatery is that you always leave full. If you order 6 shrimp you will get 7 – 8. Same with the fried catfish which I also really enjoy. Everything is fried to perfection for a very low cost. Sam’s is well maintained and has a decent staff. I stop here regularly because I love catfish. They have plenty of menu options if you do not like fried food. Give this little local spot a try :)

When people tell you the portion size is huge and the shrimp are too… please listen! My husband and I stopped in while passing through the area and made the mistake of ordering two full dinners. We would have been fine splitting a plate and there would have been left overs. The food was good. Deep fried whole catfish was incredible.
