Don’t get me wrong, the food taste wonderful and is very different than the surrounding restaurants. And I know a lot of people love this place and are regulars. BUT for the rest of us who are first timers, it doesn’t feel very welcoming. The menu is unique each week, it is uploaded online every Wednesday and you have a day or two to call in and make the reservations, ordering your dinner selections. The chef then goes out and shop for groceries per the reservations to ensure freshness and quality. I appreciate this concept and was excited to bring my parents, who was visiting for the weekend. Not knowing what to expect, we showed up about 20 minutes early. The server and chef were not ready for us and gave us the death stare. The server explained that because there is only one chef, the owner himself, and that he has to carefully choreograph the cooking, according to the reservations and they cannot accommodate guests that are early or late. We totally understand and was fine with leaving and coming back at our scheduled time. But the server said that we can still sit at our table, we won’t get to eat our dinner early. Okay, cool with us, we don’t mind at all. While we were waiting at our table, some of us had to use the restroom, which was thru the small kitchen. The chef didn’t ‘seem happy with us being early, and I felt the negative vibe. Dinner came, we all enjoyed it and appreciated the quality. We paid, tipped generously and ask the server if we can give the chef our compliments. He said Chef Jake was coming out to the dining room, and we can tell him ourselves. When the chef came over, we thanked him and complimented him. He said thank you with a straight face and walked over to a table of regulars and chatted up with them. We felt that we were being punished for showing up early and we didn’t earn his forgiveness. It’s the weekend! We wanted to relax over great food. The attitude was not needed.

Note: PLANAHEAD. If you’re visiting Silver City, you MUST try 1 Zero 6! You have to make a reservation no later than Tuesday for a weekend night. Check out the menu online before you call, as you place your order when you make the reservation. Jake, the chef, spends the entire day cooking for his patrons that evening. That’s it, no other staff except the servers. I think there’s maybe 6 tables total. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere and the food is unbelievably good, better than any fancy-schmancy fine dining restaurant I’ve been to. There’s no dress code, so no need to dress up. It’s a not so pretentious place for foodies. I don’t think it’s too pricey at all. I can still taste the wasabi mashed potatoes, they were to die for! Jake called it «eclectic food for eclectic people». You MUST try it.

Excellent food and services. Jake is very creative and he really cares about the customers. It was my first time being served by Jeff, the new waiter. He was very professional just like the previous waitress. 1 Zero 6 has never disappointed us.

We really loved our experience at 1zero6! I would say 1zero6 and Curious Kumquat are must-visit restaurants in Silver City; both are much better than most restaurants you will find in any big city, with a bonus of none of the big city pretentiousness. 1zero6 has wonderful décor, it is cozy and eclectic and so well done. The food matches the ambience; the flavors were unique and fun, but somehow it felt very much like comfort food. We loved every bite, even the simple salad was made scrumptious with the addition of dill and an incredible dressing. The entrees were so amazing and the dessert was heavenly. The service was excellent. It was such an excellent meal! And, it was so well-priced! I highly recommend making sure your trip to Silver coincides with 1zero6 being open, I know we sure will!

Visiting 1zero6 is a must if you’re in Silver City. Call ahead of time to make a reservation and preorder your entrée choice for sure! I went on a Sunday night and the place was PACKED. A walk-in even came but was turned away because there was no extra room/dishes. Not sure what other reviewers were smoking when they said the place’s décor was«morbid» — it was pleasant and cozy inside — candlelit tables and Asian décor. The chef calls you by name and brings his creations out to the tables personally — pretty amazing! Also not sure what other reviewers were smoking when they said he was rude — very cool tatted up normal guy — he even made a vegetarian entrée for me when I asked — just tell him if you have any food allergies/special accommodations when you call for your reservation. Desert was epic — don’t leave that part out! Highly recommend!

excellent. yes, you hafta call ahead, and some of the décor seems feast-of-the-dead morbid. the food makes up for it all. it comes from a big-time bicoastal chef who retired, then came out of retirement on a three-day skedge. in silver city he’s not alone in that. pasta and meat both sensational, at a third the price you’d pay in nyc. shoulda hung around for desert, but one course filled us. silver city’s a long way from any big place like albuquerque or el paso. it’s got a lot to offer anyway, its environs even more. this place is an unexpected treasure

1zero6 is unique. It’s small, it’s best to check the website and call in your order to reserve your table and your choice from the ever-changing menu. The desserts are fantastic! The service is attentive. Wine and beer is on the menu! Don’t worry about Liz P’s comments, Jake’s a sweetheart.

My husband and I recently had dinner at 1zero6. We loved the ambience. We’re Bollywood fans and so enjoyed the huge Bollywood advertisement on one wall. When we arrived we were brought a delicious lime drink and a bowl of rice crackers. The lime drink was not sweet and was very thirst quenching. We had ordered the rest of the meal in advance. For appetizers we had exquisite pieces that looked like upside down mushrooms but that were in fact custard made of rice paste and coconut milk with shrimp mixed in and a dollop of something flavored with casis on the top. We both enjoyed them immensely. My husband had salmon cooked in a banana leaf for dinner It was to be served with a sambal sauce. The waitress asked if he’d like it superhot or more on the mild side. My husband said he’d like it on the mild side. I happened to be in the restroom, in the kitchen, as the waitress told Jake, the proprietor and chef that my husband said he wanted it on the mild side. Jake said«sambal isn’t mild, you can’t do mild sambal.» He huffed a little more about the idea of mild sambal, and then said he could do a hoisin garlic sauce for my husband’s salmon. My husband was never told that he was getting an entirely different sauce than he ordered. I ordered a chicken breast. It came without sauce. It seemed to have been marinated in a mixture of spices. One of the strongest of them I didn’t like very much, but that’s a subjective comment. The objective fact was that the chicken was so dried out that, without a sauce it was a chore to eat. Both my husband and I had been given a bit of dipping sauce on our plates. I went through my dipping sauce and my husband’s dipping sauce trying to get some moisture into the chicken. Jake came out and asked the table next to us if they wanted their salmon in a milder sauce or in a sambal. They said the hotter the better. Jake voiced his approval. Obviously my husband didn’t do it right. My plate had sweet potatoes and a tomato salad with mint. The sweet potatoes were wonderful. The tomatoes could have stood just fine on their own, but with the mint they were another chore to eat. We both had pieces of chocolate tort for dessert. It was amazing. It had raspberries in it. They were wonderful, but I wish we’d been told that the torte had raspberries. Perhaps there was another dessert we might have chosen if we’d known the tort wasn’t solid chocolate. The worst moment came when it was time to pay the bill. The restaurant accepts credit cards. While I was in the restroom a second time, the waitress picked up my husband’s credit card. When I came back from the restroom, my husband went into the restroom. The waitress brought a little machine to me and asked me to sign for the credit card. I said the one my husband used had his name on it, and even though I’m on the account I wasn’t sure I could sign for it. She took it away. Jake, who was in the dining room at that time, blew up when she said my husband was in the restroom. He said he’d have to run the whole thing again. She said she had no way of knowing that my husband was going to go to the restroom. This conversation happened within earshot of the whole dining room. We had a nice evening, but this flash of anger from Jake dampened it. When my husband came back from the restroom, they presented the small machine to him, but it was not possible to get a receipt from the service. I told the waitress that I was not happy with the way, Jake had reacted. Jake came out and spoke with us for a few minutes. We told him it was a great meal. He said the credit card machine was a frustration. Apparently it times out after a certain number of minutes. Overall, I’m not sure we’ll go back. I believe well-chosen vegetables and meats can stand on their own without elaborate modification. As I tried to eat my chicken, I kept thinking of an Indian dish called Chicken Ka Tikka. The chicken breast has no sauce, but it is remarkably moist and a pleasure to eat. I wondered what the tomatoes would have tasted like without the mint. If they were fresh tomatoes, and I believe they were, they would have been fantastic. The sweet potato was not altered and it was delicious. Clearly both the waitress and Jake were very frustrated with the method they use to accept credit cards. Either they should find another method or stop accepting credit cards. The waitress and Jake didn’t seem to be a seemless unit. She asked my husband how hot he wanted his salmon, but clearly Jake was not happy with my husband’s answer. Should the question have been asked? On the way home we decided we needed to learn how to cook food the way we like it.

I really enjoy 1zero6. It is a fusion mix of asian, italian, and latin flavors. If you are someone who has to know every ingredient in your food, don’t go. I love the adventure and my teenage kids enjoy it as well. You used to be able to take your own wine, but thanks to some local competition complaints you aren’t allowed to do that anymore. Keep it up Jake, we love the food.

It is surprising this fine restaurant has not been reviewed yet as it provides, at least for us, a memorable dining experience. The fixed menu, which is provided only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, offered three entrees and two appetizers. The chimichuri(I may have that wrong) steak with browned potatoes was very very nice, the potatoes were more flavorful than I have had in a long time, the NY strip steak was nice, the sauce wonderful. A simple salad of mixed greens topped off this $ 18.95 experience. My partner had Pacific rock fish in a sauce, basmatti rice with an Asian sauce, and broccoli with an Asian sauce which was the best tasting broccoli we have had in a long time and the truly wonderful hot sauce splashed on the plate complemented the entrée nicely. The fish was fresh and delicious; this dish was $ 16.95. The small, comfortable, and quite interesting restaurant seats only 18 and reservations probably are a good idea. The décor is quite unique, you have to see it to understand but it is fun. The service was exemplary, pleasant and unique music added to the experience. This is quality, carefully and thoughtfully prepared, and wonderfully presented cuisine. The only downside is that you no longer are able to BYOB and there is no license for liquor, thanks to New Mexico’s archaic laws. But overall, this is a place for which we would make the trip to Silver City. Couple it with a stay at the classic Palace Hotel and you have a very nice trip.
