Great goat curry and brown stew chicken. Haven’t tried everything but the friendly staff kicks it from 4 to 5 stars for me.

The jerk chicken was the best I’ve had around this area. It was perfectly seasoned and moist! The rice was a bit too dry for me. My BF tried the ox-tail and thought it was great. We also tried the beef patty and lemon cake. they were both fantastic! The owner was around when we went in for dinner. he was very friendly and we were chatting with him the whole time. we will definitely go back!

Island Hut is great! The cabbage is so delicious! Friendly service. The owner even made a batch of Island Punch & offered us extra! The jerk chicken was better than I’ve ever had. They have curbside service during lunch. Generous portions!

The.Best.Jerk.Chicken. Read about this place a few places on the Internets and bumped into Tom Sietsema’s review. After he gave it three stars, which is pretty hard to get from this critique, it was on the radar. After months procrastinating, stopped by for some take-out. There’s a spot in Greenbelt that serves an amazing brown stew chicken, I mean really GOOD. Decided to try the same thing and Gloria’s was solid. Tender pieces of white meat, the seasoning and sauce were very delicious. The veggies and rice were a tad off in my opinion. Veggies could’ve been a little crispier. However, the main focus here was the jerk chicken. Hands down, the best! This is a dish I don’t normally get, but from the other places I’ve had in the area, this is great. Perfectly seasoned, sauced amazingly, I can taste it now as I am typing. The spices give you this sweetness in the beginning, then as you finish your bite, the spices kick in at the end. WHATDOYOUPUTINIT? Highly recommended place. I’m definitely going back, hopefully to eat here because I sure want to try the red snapper and king fish. The wait on our food was a tad long, but it’s cooked to order. Prices aren’t expensive, but I guess somewhat fair. Overall, great spot for Caribbean goodness.

I finally got here last week after eagerly awaiting it’s opening. Friends and I shared the jerk chicken, goat curry, and shrimp curry. All were very good — the jerk was nice and spicy, the goat was really flavorful(although could have been a little softer, IMO), and the shrimp curry had a totally different flavor than the goat, which was great. Definitely get the rice and peas on the side instead of white rice. Also, their plantains were excellent. And yes, Tom is right — try the sorrel drink. It’s spicy and sweet — mmmmm… Because I’m a glutton, I also got the rum cake whose name I’ve forgotten. It was almost like a fruitcake, which I don’t personally love. Next time I’ll try the pineapple upside down cake! I’m so happy this is right around the corner from my house. It’s a great addition to an awesome foodie strip mall.

The Goat Curry is to die for. It even has little treasures of bone marrow to suck off. This place ain’t no joke, it’s the real deal Caribbean cuisine. I told a Jamaican friend about it and he can’t stop going there. If you go there you won’t regret it.

Probably the best tasting food in Montgomery County. A little spicy, but delicious. Workers are amazingly friendly. They though need to add tables to compliment the bar style seating. If it was cheaper, I will make it a regular on my weekly schedule, but it is a bit pricey.

If you want great Caribbean food that tastes like momma made it, this is the place for you. How do I know? It’s run by an honest to God Island momma! I had the pleasure of eating at the Island Hut before heading to Strathmore one night and ordered the jerked snapper. It was the best seasoned fish that I have had since I moved to DC a decade ago(I’m from an Island myself). Besides that I was shocked at how reasonable the price was, especially for the DC area! It came with a generous serving of rice and beans, veggies, and plantains. On top of that, it happened to be opening weekend, so the owner gave me a slice of homemade lemon cake that was to die for. My better hald and I fought for the crumbs.
