I was told to focus on the beef patties when I come here. Following advice, I did. My first time here I bought a beef patty with coco bread and it was so good. The bread was the best part. It was hot, fresh out of the oven, fluffy and buttery. Because the bread was so good, I am not totally sure the beef patty was as good, but it may have been. I went 2 additional times after this; once, my beef patty was dry and the edges of the patty were hard and old. The bread, again, was still good, but the dry beef patty overpowered my lunch. The last time I went here, I bought a jerk chicken sandwich which was mediocre. There was plenty meat and they used their delicious bread that I enjoyed with the patty, but it was very salty and lacked the jerk flavor I desired from a «jamaican eatery.» Others who have visited here have also reported it as just being okay. So, the bread gets 3 stars, but overall it gets 2 stars.

This is a tough one. I was 10 years old when I first ate the Jerk Chicken sandwich and from that point on– my life changed. Now, age 24– I had a jerk chicken sandwich after not having eaten it for well over 9 years. It tastes the SAMEEXACT which perplexed me. I’ve tried the curry and rice. Honestly this isn’t truly authentic food. It’s become commercialized. Everything is obviously pre cooked and not everything is freshly made. How can I be sure? My taste buds are out of this world. This is not your grandmas home cooking — by the furthest stretch of the imagination. In all fairness — I gave 3⁄5 not 2⁄5 because of the quality of their pastries. I DONOTLIKECARROTCAKE– but I LIKENEGRILSCARROTCAKE. I was in luck because it was super fresh and taste so yummy! Oh and the Coco Bread. Hot and deadly(in a good way) The staff is friendly too. Just go on the right day … Overall– if you know your island foods then this place will disappoint.

We ordered the oxtail, the goat curry, the coco bread, and the beef patty. The portions were large, and the entire meal totaled less than $ 30. For the price, this place is amazing. I liked the food as well — the oxtail and goat curry were well flavored, though slightly on the salty side. The goat was really tender, and the curry was had a nice creamy and sweet taste. The oxtail was marinated in a darker more savory sauce that I also liked. The oxtail itself though was a bit tougher than the goat. The beef patty was good — had a decent amount of filling. And although I read a lot of reviews that touted how amazing the coco bread was, I wasn’t that impressed. The bread did have a soft texture, and a hint of coco flavor, but it was slightly oily and I thought parts of it were slightly over baked so that it was too hard. The service was also fast.

I love different and flavorful food. So we were happy to discover negril, which is a bit off the beat and path in silver spring. It has plenty of dining space, but also a great takeout option. And the prices are quite reasonable. I recommend the savory pastries. They make a great snack or meal. I have tried each flavor and was not disappointed. Also, jerk and curry chickens are good. I also like the sorrel drink and any place that has plantains is a plus in my book. A walk in order can take a while, and sometimes the place gets pretty crowded.

Great place. Been going here since I was a kid. Great service. Good food, I really like their soups. Coco bread n patties. The cabbage is really good too. Everything’s seasoned pretty well and flavors are simple and delicious! The price is very reasonable, perfect for most budgets. Give them a try, you’ll be glad u did!

We had the oxtail and goat curry entrée. I’m not a fan of goat but even my oxtail was very bland. It looked delicious but not the rich flavor that the spices normally bring. I gave it three stars because the customer service was good, the restaurant was clean, and the food was good but not great.

My boyfriend was born & raised in JA and we were visiting from Florida so of course you have a WIDE range of Caribbean eateries — therefore we may have certain expectations of flavor, and what’s in a name. We had to grab the food & eat in the car since we had together to their airport — otherwise if given the chance, this restaurant may have been given the opportunity to redeem itself. Lesson #1 — Please don’t call anything Jerk that doesn’t have a hint of spice in it. I ordered the jerk chicken sandwich which is on coco bread. It should just be called a chicken breast sandwich — not one bit of scotch bonnet, heat of any kind. Heck, not even allspice! Lesson #2 — Ox tail should be cooked in gravy/sauce slowly so totally off the bone. Not served dry with sauce on the side. It was so tough there was no sauce in the world that would have made this dish edible. Even the restaurants that«cheat» and use a pressure cooker do it better than this catastrophe. Lesson #3 Rice & peas don’t consist of unflavored rice, with hard peas, I should taste a subtle coconut milk flavor in the rice, and it should be tender and compliment the dish it with — nope. The ONLY thing I will give them is their patties. I suspect they don’t make these themselves and probably heat them up but in the off chance I’m wrong, I gave them 2 stars. We tried the curry chicken and spicy beef. Both were flavorful and the crust flaky. By the way, it’s a little suspect that no one working the front or back of the house appears to be from the Caribbean. Not that it’s a requirement of good authentic food, just in this case, it was a red flag for the inevitable experience.

This place is awesome. Great food at reasonable prices. Most Caribbean restaurants offer the same items at 3 times the price. I would recommend the Roti and Soup!

The jerk was really excellent. Two customers recommend the rum cake. Well have to try next time. Also must try the oxtail. This is the first restaurant in Silver Spring I’ve found that tastes like real Jamaican food.

Came here a few times and every time I’ve gotten the beef pattie — so flavorful and crispy! The chicken pattie was a bit dry and not as crispy, would probably not get it again. I’ve also tried the goat and chicken curry which were good but not the best I’ve had — mediocre.

Well, I only go here for one thing. The Jerk Chicken Sandwich. The bread is made from coconut flour… unique. They bake the buns on the premises so they are always fresh. And the chicken is very succulent with crisp edges. It’s as good as it gets. The chicken is dressed with a light poppy seed dressing that has a unique tang. And the crowning glory … for me, anyway, is the house made sweet & sour habenaro hot sauce(only one per customer!!) … But it’s easy enough to take two so you can take one home. The staff have all been there for as long as I have been going there(8 years) and they each have their unique attitudes :-)

Amazing Curry Roti! Try it! Over 10 years I’ve been coming here with friends! Stew chicken, jerk chicken sandwich and spicy beef patty are a must. On most summer days, the line is out the door, that says it all. Authentic Jamaican foods and most Jamaican folks eat here, that says it all too lol!

More like 3.5, but will give it a 4 based on longevity and consistency. When i used to live in Silver Spring about a decade ago, i used to go there quite often, now that i am in Baltimore, i pop by every now and then when i am in that corridor. Personally, they have the best beef patties that i have had period. Everything else is ok… most Jamaican restaurants dont have fricasse chicken, the closest may be brown stew chicken, they have that. Good pick up spot and that lemonade is crack.

Okay. This one is much better than the other one I reviewed. The service is better, but it’s a carry-out, basically, so you’re not gonna get 5-star service. The food is somehow even better. I think it’s the Jamaican«Ma’am» guiding things in the kitchen, not to mention I believe it is the flagship. Quick, Jamaican cuisine? Inexpensive? GOHERE!

Initially, I was going to give this place three stars because my food order wasn’t correct. However, once I bit into the food, I became an instant fan. I ordered the Jerk Chicken, but the server gave me a curry chicken. Nevertheless, the Jamaican style curry, blended with a little jerk seasoning, made for quite the mouth water experience. My only complaints were that the restaurant décor was dated, and the server seemed uninterested in the customers. This really isn’t a problem, though, if you just pop in for lunchtime takeout.

Nothing really wowed me here. The food wasn’t memorable but it wasn’t bad either. Maybe I came on an off day. I like Sweet Mango better.
