I have been a customer here for over 20 years and I couldn’t be happier with Sheri’s great service. She makes a great team with her husband mike.

Today I had a facial with Geenah and it was a great experience. She was knowledgable and thoughtful. She always made sure that I was comfortable(eg. Good towel temps, was very careful to be sure I felt well during extractions, etc) and overall a kind person. My skin is soft, smooth and clear. I really enjoyed when she massaged my shoulders. She used great product. Can’t wait to return.

My last two haircuts have been with the Cole, the new barber in the back chair, and I will be coming back again. My hair is not easy to cut(thinning on top and a tricky cowlick) but he got it right the first time, and the second cut was better still. I have found my new regular barber.

I received a haircut from a new employee and I wasn’t satisfied. The owner later reached out to me, explained that he was still learning, and invited me to return for a free haircut … very classy. I’m sure the new barber will improve, but more importantly the owners seemed to care and their response reflected well on the place. I will probably give this place another try in the future.

Just perfect. It’s a neighborhood place that’s friendly, simple, and relaxed. They gave me a great cut, charged a fair price, and made me feel comfortable. A bit old-school in feel, but thoroughly up– to-date in style. I’ll be back.

Mike has been cutting my hair, less now, since 1972. Tried a few other barbers over 40 years, none finer, none faster, none nicer, none friendlier. I’ve sent many friends to Mike over the years, all say the same thing, he charges too little for the great service. He is the pro.

I haven’t been in awhile as I’ve moved out from Skokie, but if I’m in town it’s where I will go. Michael is a great barber and he’s easygoing and very cool. Anytime he’s cut my hair it’s been exactly how I want it and great. The atmosphere is the best-relaxed, laid back, and very friendly.

Been going here for years and whenever I’ve strayed for the $ 5 cuts at other establishments not only have I felt guilty but the quality of the haircut just doesn’t stack up to what you get at Village Barber. The barbers here are friendly and consistent. Don’t you hate it when you can never get the same haircut twice from your barber? Well, Mike at Village Barber will give you a clean and consistent cut every time, you have my word. I have walked in but it is best to call ahead, you don’t know when it will be busy. When there is a wait I go 2 doors down to AJ’s mini mart to grab some snacks and whip up some nostalgia from the days when I used to go to Old Orchard Junior High and frequent AJ’s everyday after school.

I just moved to the area and usually go through at least 3 barbers/hair stylist before I find someone I like. Village Barber was my first stop after reading a Unilocal review and I keep going back. If you are looking for a great OLDSCHOOL experience give Mike a try you won’t be disappointed.

Ah, Village Barber Salon. When I was a little kid, my Pops used to take me to a barber shop on Golf Road in Skokie. I forget what it was called. There were two barbers there… Mike, and Some Other Guy. I’d get my hair cut by Some Other Guy. Then one day, Some Other Guy disappeared, so I started getting my hair cut by Mike. When I was a little older, I learned that Some Other Guy went to jail for doing Some Bad Thing. When I was even older than that, I learned that Some Bad Thing was Drugs. And when I was even older still, I deduced that Drugs was Heroin, which explained the little dots he used to have all up and down his arms. Soon Mike left this barber shop on Golf to set up his own salon on Church, which is now the Village Barber Salon. I had my hair cut by Mike until I left for college. When I came back to Chicago, I moved to the city, and settled for SuperCuts and Hair Cuttery because it was convenient and cheap. Then I got married, had a baby, and moved back to Evanston(not necessarily in that order). For the last few years I’ve foolishly remained a SuperCuts client. I say foolishly because I’ve never once been happy with a haircut from SuperCuts. Going to the SuperCuts in Skokie is dangerous! The stylists there have done all sorts of crazy things to my head, many of which are documented on my blog( ). Just search for haircut, or SuperCuts. Anyway. I’ve known for years that it was time to go back to Village Barber Salon, but after you’ve ditched a good barber for a crappy stylist for a long time, going back to your roots(no pun intended) becomes mighty difficult. A few months ago I bit that pride bullet and moseyed back into Village Barber Salon. Mike’s still there manning that first seat. The funny old Polish man who works the back chair is still funny, old, and Polish. The funny nail lady still sits at her little table working on ladies fingernails. The talk of sports and politics brims over the snipping and shearing, only now I’m old enough to understand what they’re talking about. My hair? Snappy. Finally. No more SuperCuts nightmares for me. I’m taking my mop to Mike at the Village Barber Salon whenever my locks get shaggy. It’s good people!
