Mike & Ed’s Bar-B-Q

If half stars were an option, I’d go 3.5, but rounded up because of the frequency which I visit here. My issue is consistency — when this Mike and Eds is good, it’s really really good, but when it’s bad, it’s a huge disappointment. I love the bbq chicken, but you have to get it at lunch time. I’ve gone in several times at night and had it be very dried out, versus the nomad juicy deliciousness when it’s fresh. The baked beans are good when they are thick and saucy, but other times they taste canned with bacon bits added (I haven’t figured out a pattern for when they are good or not good). The item that I can order and count on are the chef salad with chicken fingers (a HUGE portion, with lots of yummy, crispy chicken fingers on top). I also happen to love their potato salad and hickory sauce, but it could be that their styles match up with mine. I will say that the inside feels a bit dirty. I realize that it’s a bbq restaurant and there’s an element of greasiness that comes with that, but the floors are slick and the facilities feel old.

I like to pick up their tailgate package whenever family comes into town. The bbq pork is very good. You get two pounds of meat 2 large sides and a loaf of bread for just over $ 20. Hard to beat when you can feed five or six people for that kind of money.

Their chicken fingers are great! I love the sauce they give you (similar to Zaxby’s «Zax sauce»). We also had the ribs and half chicken. Everything was great, including the sides, yummy Mac and cheese, potato salad and BBQ beans. If you don’t like Alabama mustard BBQ sauce, you can order their «hickory sauce», it’s the more traditional sweet BBQ sauce. Don’t forget the awesome sweet tea! I took off one star because it’s a little expensive and the service can be slow. Also, I wish they would offer menu items that have more than 1 meat, like a chicken and ribs plate.

We did take out there Saturday night. They did the order quick and correct. The chopped pork sandwich was amazing. Also the prices are low.
