Xpress Your Kinks

Don’t waste your money! I had the Nicole A. Parker custom blend kinky twists done and my hair looks horrible. I’ve had my twists for not even 3 weeks and my hair looks like it’s about 3 or 4 months old. There are several issues why I wouldn’t recommend this salon. First, my appointment was at 10am with Toni. I arrived early about to find the salon locked and dark. I texted the number that was on the confirmation email and was told that Toni though the appointment was for 11 and she would be there by 10:30. Toni didn’t get there until 11:20. I was told that I would receive $ 10 off my hair for the inconvenience. Wow. Secondly, the custom blend I thought would look like Nicole A. Parker’s hair, my hair looked nothing like her hair. I have 6 different colors in my hair ranging from a dark brown to a bleach blond. Third, within the first week my braids at the root started to slip. By the end of the first week most of my hair has frizzed out of the twists and I now have a bunch of single strand knots! Xpress your kinks only seems to get business because they are throwing Nicole A. Parker’s name out there. Most of the pictures that’s posted on Instagram is of other stylist work using the fro’kinks brand of hair. The fro’kinks hair is awesome, it’s super lightweight and not itchy like a lot of the other synthetic hair. I thought about buying some of the hair in a dark color to do my own twist since again the hair is pretty good but I refuse. I refuse to give xpress your kinks anymore of my money. I’ve already been ripped off! $ 340 gone down the drain. I didn’t want to leave a negative review but looking at my hair has pissed me off, I feel the need to warn others before they spend their money and get disappointed like I am.

When I tell you this place has HORRIBLE customer service, it is HORRIBLE. They do not have a phone number, so you cant talk to a person. Booking an appointment is a nightmare, and you must pay a $ 50 deposit BEFORE they tell you that they are not available at the time you are. Not because they are so busy, but because the «salon» or booth is so tiny, they can’t see more than 2 people at once. The owner is rude & they are not honest. Be very careful. I have no complaints about how they did my hair, but what you have to go through to get it done, isn’t worth it AT ALL.

Trust me, you can find someone to mess up your hair for way less money. Despite having a conversation with Ephinae prior to booking and being encouraged to ask questions and make no apologies due to the amount of money being spent… all my fears came to play. My hair was very tight and stiff upon completion which it should not have been. the stiffness essentially had it «molded» into place so I didn’t immediately see the issues. after a few days once my hair loosened up I was immediately unsatisfied. I basically vowed never again and was prepared to suck it up. However, a day or so later I saw how atrocious it was. I shared some pictures with my cousin who happens to be both a hair enthusiast and licensed cosmetologist. She doesn’t curse much, but she went nuts over those photos and told me I would be a fool not to ask for a redo after spending so much money. So, I very respectfully sent Ephinae an email stating the basic issue and that I would like to send her some photos after which we can have a conversation. She stated of course. I sent her the photos to which she replied that she was in New York, please give her a few days and she’d get back to me with a solution. I NEVER HEARD FROM HER AGAIN. The hair was not in my head a solid month and the only reason it was in that long was because I didn’t have time to take it down and had not yet secured an appointment to get it done with someone else. I was irritated. A month or so later as I was cleaning out email, I became disgusted with the fact that that was how she does business. I sent her a little note to say so. No cursing or hostility, just an expression of complete disappointment. Well. She didn’t respond to that one either.
Aside from this I find it funny that they charge you for being late, but have no respect for YOUR time. I was actually early, more than available to start on time but had to wait as the girl was «fixing» someone else’s hair that «the other girl messed up» as she put it. So that’s another funny. It’s possible to get your hair «fixed» if unsatisfied, however, Ephinae gave me a screw you. Also, there are clearly inconsistencies and ineptitude at work here on a REGULAR BASIS.
Do not be fooled (as I was) by what is posted on Instagram. A lot of the work they show does not even come out of this «salon» it’s pictures of work others have done using the hair they sell. Do not be fooled by their 1 or 2 «celebrity clients» OF COURSE they’re gonna kiss their ass and do their hair well. YOU? Not so much. Also, don’t expect any kind of customer service. I’m so disappointed because I did my research, heard all the right responses and still got royally screwed. I urge you to «xpressyourkinks» SOMEWHERE ELSE!
