4848’ Mountain Performance Shop

After realizing I had forgotten to pack my pants I was scared I was going to have to pay close to $ 200 for a pair I may not even like at the resort. In the end I ended up with a hot new pair of pants closer to LESS than $ 100. I love them more than the pair I forgot at home! Woohoo.
Also on a sidenote another person in our group had broke a binding strap the second day but got someone at this shop to fix it for free. That’s service! Do not rip off the «tourists» — we’ll keep coming back if you treat us right.

4848 is the flagship clothing and sporting good store for Snowshoe Mountain and it bears the name of the altitude of the highest point in the mountain (actually the Village is about 4,700 feet above sea level). The store carries some high-​end clothing for both men and women, such as Spyder and Obermeyer, as well as a full stock of ski gear, helmets and goggles. It can indeed be a shopping dream. Three years ago, my family spent close to $ 20K in one sitting at the place. I would have rated the store a «4» star but Snowshoe’s management can’t seem to get its mind settled about the place’s stock and as a result, the customer is totally confused from one season to the next. For example, last year they awarded exclusivity to Head Skis. Neither myself nor my family is interested in Heads, so the Red Barn got our money. They also used to have an expert ski boot fitter who then moved to Asheville NC. The best times to visit are in Spring and Fall, when discounts of up to 50 percent are designed to clear the shelves.
