I recently had the distinct pleasure to participate in the annual Solomons Island national Plein Air Competition in Sep 2015 that was essentially organized by Carmen’s Gallery and many local volunteers. This well attended national Art event contributed substantially to various local charities in Southern MD As an accomplished painter who has participated in many international and national Art competitions, I appreciated the organization, leadership, competence, and professionalism of Carmen, her staff and the many dedicated volunteers during this 5 day event. The Plein Air event was truly outstanding in every respect. The various art competitions, charitable art auctions, stunning art exhibits, and sterling receptions were activities not to be missed. Regional tourists and visitors would be impressively stimulated by the opportunity to become involved in this memorable celebration of the arts. Significantly, the final catered reception at Carmen’s was the capstone of this major national event. The classy decorations and setups around the Gallery’s backyard pool provided a unique backdrop for the comprehensive display of the many creative Art works. Delicious gourmet food and drinks solidified was an event that should be placed on any interested visitor’s future calendar. Undoubtedly, this was a truly momentous experience.

A charming gallery and well worth a visit. We entered on a whim after seeing a life-size sculpture of a horse made from driftwood from the street. The interior did not disappoint, with two floors of pieces, including paintings(abstract and not, oils, mixed media, water colors), jewelry, and sculpture. Settled on an abstract piece by a Maryland artist that now hangs proudly in our living room. Excellent selection, reasonable prices, and warm service — everything a gallery should be.

We went into Carmen’s on a whim while walking down the main street in Solomon’s Island. What a great gallery. Excellent works from artists from DC, France, New Orleans, and elsewhere. While there are prints and photographs of Solomons, this is not tourist art, but real art. Carmen has another gallery in New Orleans. Check out her website at . Carmen is a terrific saleswoman, and the two cats are worth a visit. In addition to paintings, prints, and photographs, there is a very nice collection of jewelry. Note: Google Map apparently can’t figure out Solomons Island. Carmen’s Gallery is not located where the map indicates. It’s on the main street in the historic part of Solomons.
