Just go. Seriously. Best overall dining experience in a very long time. Pros: Cozy, cool atmosphere. We got seated where we could watch the chefs prepare the food. We got 4 tapas for 2 people, which was perfect. We ordered: Fried brussels sprouts — out of this world Lamb sliders — insane(in a good way) Yucca gnocchi — really different and in a yummy mushroom sauce Beef tenderloin pincho — fun to pull apart to eat, pretty salty But BYFAR the best part of the meal was dessert. The Tres Leches is the most delicious dessert I’ve ever eaten. Perfect amount of sweet(i.e. not sickening sweet). An absolutely must when at Casa B. I cannot recommend this place enough. We will definitely be returning soon. Cons: Nothing about the restaurant. The only thing I would say is that parking is pretty tight, so give yourself enough time to find a spot.

On a rainy Monday night, my boyfriend and I finally got a chance to try Casa B, a restaurant that we have walked by many times and heard great reviews about, but have never tried out for ourselves. After spotting their«Half-Priced Tapas Sunday-Thursday from 5−6PM» advertised on their menu outside the door, we headed inside and were the first couple seated in their downstairs. The restaurant itself is beautifully, artistically decorated, with small details and varying textures covering the walls. The waitstaff was wonderfully attentive and carefully explained each tapas as they served us. We ordered two different drinks to start: the Winter Gimlet and the Dark and Stormy. The latter was fantastic — refreshing and expertly mixed with its hint of lime — and we ordered a second Dark and Stormy midway through the meal. Our tapas arrived in a thoughtful order that I can only assume was done deliberately by the waitstaff. We began with sautéed wild mushrooms over grilled plantains and potatoes fritas in a delicious ailoi sauce. Next came the meatballs in guava, onion, and tomato sauce and the chicken and goat cheese served on warm bread and topped with roasted yellow and red peppers. Though already stuffed, we ended our meal with a selection of cheese and guava preserve, figs, and almonds, which was beautifully displayed on a cutting board. We were only just tucking into our first tapas dish when we vowed to come back very soon, and bring our friends. It is an excellent, romantic spot, and the waitstaff was wonderful!

Casa B is an adorable little tapas place in Somerville. Adjacent to tons of bars and nightlife, its a great place to start off the night, I would recommend the shrimp wrapped in bacon, delicious and anything withe the guava sauce, they use it for the sweet and savory dishes, i never knew it was so versatile.

Such an adorable find! The restaurant itself is gorgeous. Super comfy lounge feel but also very contemporary. My friend and I sat on a little couch bench in front of the open kitchen. Very fun and very Union Square(aka trendy). We had: The passion fruit daiquiri which was delicious. Very refreshing The hamburguesas which were by far the best thing on the menu. Two come in an order so I’d get like 16. The gnocchi and pot roast which was very filling and the gnocchi far out shined the roast. But still overall great Shrimp wrapped in bacon. Good, but basically just shrimp wrapped in bacon. Not spectacular. Chorizo in puff pastry. The guava sauce really made this dish. Get extra even. Pretty good but I’m not a huge meat eater so it kind of just tasted like a hot dog. Still very filling though. Tuna on a plantain. Super good and the wasabi aioli was an excellent compliment to the plantain. I thought the tuna tasted a little smokey and though it could have tasted more fresh/raw but it was the second best thing besides the sliders. Really good. Ended with the tres leches cake for me and my friend got the coconut bread pudding. I never had tres leches and thought it was awesome! The meringue was aahhhmazing, it was like marshmallow fluff. That being said I think I would order my friends dessert next time. The bread pudding was soft and moist and had that guava sauce i’m apparently in love with. Can’t go wrong with either though!

This is a must go for a slightly different take on Tapas. Reminiscent of some of the Barcelona Tapas the menu is tilted towards South America and Puerto Rico. The owner /server was super proud of her food and heritage and the recommendations were spot on. The plantains served as you are seated is a nice touch of things to come. The cormeal oysters were served in their shells and presented beautifully. The portion of three was huge. The grilled butternut squash with fries shallots and honey tasted sublime. We had the Puerto Rican pot roast that came with heavenly pillows of gnocchi that were light and ethereal. Best of all was the seven layer salad that came enclosed in a cylinder of glass with great flavours of chorizo onion micro greens peas aioli eggs and manchengo cheese. The dessert of tres leches with thick marshmallows capped a glorious food orgy. This is a special restaurant that truly cares about all the details. You also need to know the value is here as well. Four large dishes and a couple of drinks for $ 100. Can’t beat it!

Like any tapas fan, Casa B has been on my bookmarked list forever. Finally got a chance to see how they pair up to my usual beloved jaunts. Stepping into the restaurant, I was immediately impressed by the ambiance; Very romantic and dreamy like atmosphere. Between the dim lights, garden like décor and all the candles, it definitely sets the mood. Our server and bartender were also very chill, approachable and familiar with the menu. We opted to sit by the bar where you can watch your tapas being made which was a very cool view. For tapas, we tried the following: Hake ceviche special — One of my favorites that night. I love avocados and this was served with a whole one topped with the freshly made hake ceviche mix. The sweet potato slices were packed with robust flavor and the crunchy roasted corns accented the dish nicely. Note: It’s not as citrusy as the normal ceviche so if you are looking for that bite, this may not exactly fit the bill. 4.5÷5 Mollejas de Pollo(chicken gizzards + sautéed onions in butter) — Didn’t try personally but feedback was it was«okay» but would probably skip next time. 3⁄5 Gnocchi de Yuca — The gnocchi was an odd shape but texture-wise was consistent with that pillowy melt in your mouth, «no need to chew apart» dumpling. The one thing that took me by surprise was how strong the Cabrales cheese was as I’ve not had much experience with Spanish cheese. A bit too pungent for me but for people who like strong cheeses, this would be a nice one to order. 3⁄5 for me, probably a 4⁄5 for most people. Atun Salteado con Ajonjoli(sesame seared tuna over sweet plantain) — Loved this dish. Between the crunchy sesame on the tuna and the sweet baked plantain underneath, the combo of these topped with the microgreens were excellent together. 4.5÷5 Overall, a pretty good experience. Food was different, even different from others for Spanish tapas. Seems like they added their own twist to every dish so it’s more fusion. Unique and adventurous. Some of these adventurous twists were winners like the ceviche and the tuna. Others that were okay but we might pass next time are the chicken gizzards and the gnocchi.

one of those restaurants that i’m glad i tried because not only did i have a great meal but now i can smugly recommend this place to all of my friends. i tried the brussel sprouts, shrimp ceviche, seared tuna, and something else that i’m now forgetting. seriously enjoyed each and every single plate in front of me, especially the seared tuna(brussels came in second place). our waitress also recommended a white wine to pair with our meal which, as someone that prefers red, i thought was pretty good. a great place for a date(ambiance and level of service were just right) or other sort of intimate dinner. definitely coming back.

YUMMY! Such a cute place with great food. They have a really neat living wall in the lower level. It is a cozy(small) place, so be sure to make a reservation. We got lucky since it was a snowy day there was an empty table. We did the chefs tasting menu and loved every single course! The cheese fritters are amazing and the SANDWICHDEBISTEC was delightful, although a bit messy to eat. My fiancé loved the CARNEMECHADA + GNOCCHIDEYUCA and I thought the HAMBURGUESITASDECORDERO were amazing. They also gave us some fish sandwich dish that I didnt see on the menu. It was great. We were both stuffed, but splurged on dessert. Dont skip dessert! The Tres Leches cake is to die for.

I crossed the river to Somerville(I’m kind of a snob, I hardly leave Boston proper) to visit this cozy little restaurant, and it was well worth the visit! It was like walking into someone’s cozy little living room and being served some warm, tasty nuggets of nomminess. We sat at the bar, at high-top, white couchy-looking chairs. Instead of bread, they serve you fried plaintain chips in this little rustic-looking bag. We got the tuna, the lamb sliders, and the mushrooms — and everything was really great. The lamb sliders were served with yogurt sauce, and it was the perfect blend of creamy and meaty(yay carne). It felt sophisticated, but also casual — I appreciated seeing a dude rock a Patriots sweater(It was the AFC championship weekend, after all). I feel like this would be prime date spot(please note that if you don’t want to be on a date, this may be supremely awkward as you try to create a lot of space/distance between you and your unfortunate dining companion — it’s adorably intimate here).

Casa B is a fantastic tapas restaurant in Somerville. I was impressed by the ambiance downstairs, with the display of live plants growing out of the far wall and the artful dividers of flowers and leaves that separated tables from each other. The atmosphere was dim and romantic, and very in-theme with Spanish music playing in the background all night. Instead of bread, we were served complimentary plantain chips with yogurt dip to start. The yogurt dip was light and delicate, and served as the perfect complement to the mild taste of the plantains. We tried 5 tapas: Mollejas de pollo(chicken gizzards, sautéed onions in butter, $ 10): I have only had chicken gizzards a few times before, but these were cooked excellently. The gizzards were tender and succulent. Sandwich de bistec(beef tenderloin, sautéed onions, crispy shallots, ketchup, $ 12): The beef was marinated and seasoned well. I thought this dish was a bit too similar to the chicken gizzards(both types of meat were served on the same crusty bread). Choripan(chorizo and guava wrapped in puff pastry, $ 16): a stand-out and my favorite dish of the night. The chorizo was wonderfully savory and came wrapped in a sweet puff pastry and covered in a sweet fig sauce. The interplay of sweet and salty was excellent. Carne mechada and gnocchi de yuca(Puerto Rican pot roast and yucca gnocchi sautéed in a sage & brown butter sauce, $ 18): The meat was tender and melt-in-your-mouth, while the gnocchi was soft and chewy. A great combination. Atun salteado con ajonjoli(sesame seared sushi-grade tuna served over sweet plantain and wasabi aioli, $ 16): By this time I was almost too full to eat this. The tuna is very salty and crusted with seeds, but serves as a good complement to the sweet plantain base. The service was well-timed, with roughly one tapas coming out every 20 minutes. Our waiter was very attentive, and was constantly topping off our water and asking if we were enjoying the meal. For dessert, we had the tres leches(three milk cake(condensed, evaporated, cream) with Taza Chocolate ganache, soft merengue + cinnamon, $ 12). I highly recommend this dessert. The cake was spongy and moist, and the meringue on top was light and airy. The total came to $ 105(before tax and tip), which is not bad given the amount of food that we ate(we were both completely stuffed by the end). In comparison to my favorite tapas restaurant in Boston, Toro, I would say that Casa B. is slightly worse food-wise, but better ambiance-wise. It is also very helpful that Casa B. accepts reservations, unlike Toro.

The food was bad. The ceviche was tough to the point of being inedible, the polenta cakes were burnt, the asparagus dip had no appeal. The patatas were so-so, maybe a little dry. The yucca gnocchi was excellent. On food alone, this would be 2 stars. The service was odd. They eagerly tried to push the most expensive bottle of wine. The gent who waited on us opened the bottle of wine we picked and rapidly poured the entire contents into 2 glasses… despite there being 3 people at the table. The final check was presented on an ipad with presumptuous pre-programmed tip options(20%, 25%, 30%), all calculated on top of alcohol and tax. Negative stars for service. Between food and service — this would get a half star. The space is lovely and warm, that bumps Casa B up to a grand total of 1 star.

LOVE the space downstairs. OMG it’s beautiful, unique and jungle-magical-whimsical. I hear the owner is an architect which makes total sense – well done on the aesthetics. I love Union Square and am so pleased there are loads of great spots to dine and kick back with friends. The sink in stars is based on the $ 50 tasting menu which was a total rip off from a price stand point. They packed the tasting with cheap dishes and semi-bland boring dishes. There were three of us and to pay $ 150 + wine + tip for what we got seems really ridiculous. The dishes we were brought included the following: 1. mollejas de pollo-$ 10(very nice flavor and would get again) 2. Setas Salteadas-$ 12(not great and I despise restaurants that do fillers like this on a tasting menu) 3. Patatas Fritas-$ 10(fine – this is an overpriced dish) 4. Ensalada Costena de Camararones-$ 15(Delicious dish with nice herbaceous flavors) 5. Albondigas $ 14(not great, lacked depth of flavor, wasn’t well seasoned) 6. Carne Mechada +gnocchi de yuca-$ 18(fantastic dish) 7. Bunuelos-$ 11(not a fan – lacked any cheese flavor – bland dough and became mushy sitting in the red pepper sauce) 8. + A salad with bits of serrano ham(I’ll up the price to say $ 12 b/c it’s not listed on their menu).(This salad was great) Total-$ 102(paid $ 150 for this unknowingly due to not looking at the actual prices prior). Service-The host and one of the gentlemen we initially interacted with were fantastic — clearly service-oriented and warm. One of the women was pleasant and had a great sense of humor as well and great wine recommendations based on the grape we wanted. The issue was with the woman who delivered each of the dishes. This was LITERALLY her delivery every time: Us.“What is this”…woman«Ohh umm, it’s just potatoes and shrimp» in a monotone voice. WOW thank you! Like hello, we are doing a tasting so we have no clue what’s coming out, please feel obliged to explain the dishes like you happen to be working! This was our interaction with this employee EVERY time a dish came out.

I has meh experience here for a celebratory night out, but decided to try it again. I brought my mother here for her birthday. We came with friends, so there were 5 of us. My mother and I loved our food. The mofongo, canoas, and cod fritters were really, really good. My friends are vegetarian and the menu had options so they could still celebrate with us. They ordered the gnocci and two other dishes they thought were extremely bland and generally not cooked well. It took forever to order, get food, and get the actual bill. We were there for over 3 hours, not because we wanted to be. I don’t think it was the server’s fault. He was definitely attentive when we caught his eye. I had wine, but my friend tried a Mai Tai they thought tasted like a mix between a Margarita and a dark and stormy. When she brought this to the attention of the other server, he was defensive and insisted the Mai Tai was made as it is supposed to be. The drinks were not great. There seemed to be only two servers for the downstairs area. Here’s what was over the top made me super mad and I will not be. At the end of night the server says they are transitioning to a new billing system, so they are currently doing paper billing. He hands me a stacks of tickets with the short hand used for the kitchen and a table ticket that has the break down of the drink verses food bill, no itemized bill was provided. The tickets were all kitchen short hand, so we had to grab the menu to figure out who had what and owed what. We were splitting the bill among three cards, this took time and I was highly annoyed they put it on the customer to work out all of this out splitting the bill. Given the amount of money I spent, I found this to be super disrespectful to customers.

On our annual visit to Boston, we found yet another reason to love the area… the Casa b restaurant in Sommerville. This is my first 5 star rating. The food was masterfully prepared and the flavors were spot on, delightful and intriguing. Start the evening with a bag of plantain chips and a hand crafted cocktail, which you must try as the unique ingredients are fascinating on the palate. They have tapas grouped on their menus, some served on rustic bread(we tried chorizo, onions & Avacado … Yum), or vegan, seafood, or meat. We enjoyed the yucca stuffed shrimp(camarones rellenos de yuca), but the best thing we had all night was the«atun salteado con ajonjoli», which was seared tuna with black sesame seeds, a very light wasabi dressing, topped with watercress and served atop a sautéed plantain. A party in your mouth… So much so, we just had to order another plate of them because we didn’t want to share with each other ! My husband and I happened to sit downstairs on the loveseats in front of the high top counter over looking the chefs area. It was very cool to watch the cooking and preparation. The pastry chef made all her delights in front of us. We could not help ourselves and had to order the poached pear, macaroon brittle, and spiced bread pudding as it lounged on a bed of chocolate. Staff was friendly and polite. We liked the atmosphere and the pace of the meal. We will definitely be back! If you get a reservation between 7 – 8, go early enough to nab a parking spot as the area has several restaurants next to each other.

This was my second time to come here for a nice dinner. Tapa style restaurant is always fun since variety of dishes can be ordered and shared with others. We got he lamb sliders, cheese fritters, potatoes, tomato and watermelon salad, and meatballs. My favorite dish was lamb sliders and the complimentary yuca fries. They have different type of sauces for different dishes and the visual presentation was great. We actually came here after the Taza chocolate factory tour since these places are so close to each other. If you are planning a fun weekend activity, I highly recommend Casa B and Taza chocolate tour. Also Backbar is cool to check out if you are looking for a nice cocktail after your meal.

Great tapas that differ from your typical fare at Spanish restaurants. Loved the chicken gizzards and shrimp wrapped in bacon. I was initially nervous about trying the gizzards since the word itself doesn’t sound all that appetizing, but was very surprised when I actually liked it. The gizzards are tender and a bit chewy(in a good way) and really soak up the flavors. Also tried the pisco sour for the first time, which is now my favorite drink! Overall, you can’t go wrong here and this is the place to try new things since they could probably make anything taste delicious!

Casa B has finessed each one of their tapas… well, I can only speak for what I have eaten:) Here is a list of my top choices: ceviche sandwich de bistec papas fritas rollitos de aguacate camarones rellenos de yuca carne mechada + gnocchi de yuca We’ve also had a few off the specials menu! FYI…grandma’s ketchup is fabulous!

Came for restaurant week, and left thoroughly satisfied. Atmosphere is perfect for a romantic night out, and servers are great as well. We(luckily) tried a lot of dishes, so here we go: Appetizers: 1. Seven Layer Salad– ridiculously good salad w/just enough sauce to complement the different veggies that came with it. 10⁄10 2. Lobster, Salmon, & Hake marinated in lemon, orange, and lime– Lobster & salmon were my favorite. Very flavorful and the difference in taste really brought out the full impact of each. 10⁄10 Main Course: 1. Sesame Seared Sushi– grade tuna served on sweet plantain + wasabi aioli– They could’ve given me 200 pieces of this and I would still ask for more. Best dish I tried today. My personal food drug of the night. 20⁄10 2. Beef Meatballs in guava & tomato sauce– You wouldn’t expect meatballs to be this good! Slightly sweet and tangy followed by waves of meaty, salty goodness. 10⁄10 3. Puerto Rican Pot Roast & Yucca Gnocchi sauteed in sage brown butter sauce– While good, it didn’t live up to my expectations after the other dishes this place had. A bit too salty for my taste, although the gnocchi was amazing. 7⁄10 4. Chorizo and guava wrapped in puff pastry– Nice balance between sweet and salty, and the pastry itself was crispy and had that nice crunch to it that complemented the meat. 10⁄10 Dessert: 1. Coconut + Chocolate warm bread pudding w/guava sauce– A great end to this meal. Not sickeningly sweet like other puddings I’ve tried before, and the chocolate was more on the dark side, which is always good in my book. 9⁄10 We also got to try an assortment of their wines and cocktails, and while they’re all good, I’d recommend their cocktails more, especially the Raulito.
