My favorite is the chicken meatball sub. All white meat and just the right seasoning. Topped with Vinny’s marinara it’s the perfect sub for me. You haven’t lived until you’ve tried the chicken meatballs as a sub.

I just purchased a small roast beef sub in there today and it was about the smallest small sub I’ve ever had(a little longer than a dollar bill). Not only was it small but it had three slices of roast beef on it and it was so thinly sliced you could see through it. I had them put pickles and peppers on it and by the time was wrapped and put in a bag it weighed less than the small bag of chips I bought with it and the sub cost $ 7.50 Rip off! Stay away from this place.

Decent Italian food to me is a right and not a privilege. A friend of mine who lives within walking distance of the place decided he wanted to try it since he has been living here a number of years and never quite got around to it. On the outside it looks like a convenience store. When you walk inside it looks like a sub shop. walk a bit further and guess what? I really nicely laid out restaurant that one may not have expected. Our server brought what was hands down the most delicious, crusty, airy, flavorful bread I have had in as long as I can remember. A quick question revealed that it comes from Italo’s Bakery in Medford, MA. [my next stop of course]. R and i went through two loaves without thinking twice. They served it with butter as one option and EVOO with sun dried tomatoes to dip in as another. Quite frankly it didn’t need either. The menu was very well laid out with a nice selection of appetizers including the antipasto bar which we didn’t realize was there until well into the meal. Entrée’s were a bit more difficult to pick through due to the layout of the menu. Unique items one would normally not have expected to find were a awe inspiring surprise. I was stunned to find stewed rabbit with green olives and ostrich grilled with a balsamic glaze and shiitake mushrooms as options to choose from. The rabbit was on the lower end of the prices believe it or not, and the ostrich price was still topped by the rack of lamb. R and I skipped the drinks, skipped the specials, skipped the apps, and went right into the entrees. R ordered that rabbit I had mentioned mainly because I had never tasted it before. I went ahead with the Chicken Bracciola which was filled with spinach, sun dried tomato, proscuitto, and Swiss cheese. It was topped with a light and chunky tomato sauce and served over freshly made mafalde pasta. I will point out that due to the vast amounts of bread eaten prior and the generous portion of food half of the meal is in the fridge. This is still one of the best interpretations of the dish I can recall. Oh that pasta! Each morsel so tender and delicious. The chicken breast was large and voluptuous, each bite rewarded with flavor. R was not as pleased with his choice. I wish to point out ahead of time that the dish was expertly cooked. The rabbit was tender and full of flavor. The bones to pick through and the accompanying sauce was simply not to R’s liking. He ate most of it and then devoured the ample side of freshly made fussili pasta in marinara. We decided to snag dessert to go thinking this was going to be just as delectable as dinner was. I’m going to say ahead of time to skip this part of the meal. Desserts are way overpriced for what one gets and quite frankly the looked so commercial in appearance I think they may have been convenience items. We picked up the Chocolate Duo Mousse, and the Tiramisu [ten bucks for this teeny square I might add!]. The mousse was this 3.5 inch round which was still partially frozen, and after sitting in the fridge downstairs for three hours. Even according to the menu that isn’t supposed to be the case. The tiramisu while good was vapidly unimpressive. I will say again that ten dollars for a three by three inch square was simply robbery. Service…yeah…don’t go here expecting that. It’s just not going to happen. The service wasn’t terrible in that you could find a server when one was sought after. Friendly demeanor, and general to be there was just non-existent. Suggestions and upselling was also something of a foreign nature. The famed antipasto bar being the main thing we were clueless about. So in a nutshell, go for the bread, and the entrees. Skip dessert and tolerate the staff.

Oh Vinny’s at Night, how I love you. The food here is amazing – they have bountiful and delicious pasta dishes and a really great antipasto bar. I really appreciate the fact that they don’t smother their pasta in 45,000 cloves of garlic, but rather let the simple flavors of the tomatoes, sausage, cheese(or what have you), and homemade pasta really shine. Also, if you come here with a large party, they’ll seat you in the basement in a long, narrow room with a wall of mirrors that are painted with vines and accented by green curtains. It’s awesome.

This is the BEST Italian in the area. Every sub is sliced to order and prepared right in front of you. And they don’t skimp on anything… put on some extra hots and I can’t wait to dive in. Yummo!

I used to live right next to this place, but never frequented it. The few times I did go I had to wait forever for a mediocre sub. Plus, the«staff»(I’m assuming he’s just Vinny) isn’t exactly friendly. The price was around what I was expecting, but after eating the sub, they seem a little high. Three stars for being the only sub shop in my old neighborhood.

Good North End style italian food without going into the city. The restautrant is hidden in the back behind the variety store/sub shop. I would skip the antipasto buffet and dive right into their daily specials.

Do yourself a favor and call ahead for a sandwich order. Everything is sliced to order and the building could be on fire and they wouldn’t step it up. Great sandwiches though. Also prepared Italian foods like stuffed pasta, but also tripe and some soups IIRC. At night they have a restaurant in the back of the store. Great Italian American food and really cheap prices. This place is a gem.
