This place has reached for the stars, and got 5 of them. Nice! The hidden location makes it even more of a gem. I have tried burritos and tostadas from here. 4 stars for the quality and quantity of the food, 1 big bright star for their behind-the-counter orange habanero salsa.

Not sure how this place has such good reviews. I had the 2 tacos combo plate. 1 lengua(tongue) and 1 steak. Tacos were nothing special. I would have rather hit a taco truck. $ 2.50 taco shouldn’t be beat by a taco truck. Taco was dry and this place doesn’t have traditional salsa to help it out. They have a green salsa that was ok but no kick and a orange salsa that had too much kick. To bad no normal red salsa. I’m usually pretty easy when it comes to Mexican food but a 2 taco combo plate for $ 8.99 that is sub par is nothing I would ever go back for. My dad is the easiest person to please and he said he was pretty disappointed. He had the same meal but only steak. Not sure if it was just a off day but I wouldn’t go back to this place based on my experience.

I can not figure out how this place has so many stars. Some of the worst tacos of my life. First off, not homemade tortillas as some reviewers said, and why I went there. My tacos had almost no flavor, and at $ 9 for two a la carte tacos and a small coke was not that cheap either. The guy at the register was completely unfriendly and barely spoke to me, so surly I didn’t even ask why the price seemed higher than it should have. And my stomach still hurts 3 hours later. Yuck.

Authentic and inexpensive! Authentic mexican street tacos. Great food offerings, inexpensive and is open late night. What a find in Sonoma. The chorizo tacos were spices just right and the al pastor was tasty and had some crispiness to it. You order inside and then go outside to give the cook your receipt. He makes it right then and there. Will go back to try their tamales

Fantastic find in Sonoma. Came here with 4 adults and 2 children 10 months old. We were visiting from NY and was staying in the neighborhood. The actual place looks very dingy and the typical«hole in the wall» appearance but it also stands up the the quality of food for a hole in the wall. Amazing spicy salsas, that are actually spicy and not watered down. Of all the meat selections, Chorizo was the best easily. Corn tortillas that are actually good and a very good amount of meat in the servings. Unfortunately they did not have tamales available. But service overall is good, food comes out fast.

El Gran is by far my favorite place for tacos! I went everywhere in Sonoma and they beat everyone by a mile. The only reason I’m not giving this 5 stars, plus is because the big guy that works at the truck at night and sometimes during the day at the actual restaurant is always SOOOOORUDE!!! maybe its just cause Im white but he is always short and rude and never gives me chips with my order. Other then that the price cant be beat and the food is so amazing! He cant stop me from eating there even with his bad attitude. YUM!

Awesome carnitas! Tucked behind the Boyes Food Store On Hwy 12 is gram tap worn is wow chicken signage. Minimal parking, seats for about 40 but easy pick up and go orders. Or eat a taco and hang out in the front deck. Great go to place for authentic mexican. Cabasa, lingua, beef checks, tripe. Mrnudo… they got it! No crispy tacos or encherritos here folks!

Stopped here en route home and ordered two tacos, steak and chicken, at $ 1.99 each. I’m not sure why other reviews state that the tortillas are homemade. They came from what looked like a bag of grocery store corn tortillas. Maybe the flour tortillas are homemade. The filling was generous in both tacos, a deal for $ 2 each. The chicken taco included pico de gallo and cilantro but was curiously underseasoned. The beef taco included caramelized onions and there was a sauteed pepper(jalapeño?) on the plate, which was tasty and not too hot. The salsa(in a plastic container) was probably good but it was too hot for me. I’m not a total wimp, probably a middleweight when it comes to spiciness. If I could, I would have given 3.5 stars because the meat in both tacos was disappointing. It was obviously precooked which would be okay except it was DRY(esp. the chicken).

Delicious food. Great service. We sat outside on the porch to enjoy the sun and lunch. They barbecue their meat right outside the restaurant with real wood, the chicken is off the hook marinated to perfection! Location is not the Sonoma people probably picture in your head but who cares when you have an enormous strawberry banana smoothie and a fresh huarache combo? Not many places have huaraches, and if I see one on a menu I always order it — gran taqueria made the best one I’ve tried so far.

After a long drive, we were looking for something simple, Mexican and a place that had beer and wine. Too bad there was no wine. El Gran should work on that. I did get my Pacifico’s. The chips were good(better than suck anyways), salsa was good, I ordered a chorizo burrito and my better half ordered the cheese enchiladas and a side of Guac. Food was excellent and the portions were grande. If you are looking for ambiance, forget this place. If you are looking for value in great Mexican food, this is worth the stop I hesitate to give this 5 stars, but I probably should.

Amazing authentic Mexican food the way it was meant to be served and enjoyed. Great staff and fast too! What’s not to love, other than the atmosphere. :)

Like ol’ Mexico, ain’t gonna get more authentic than this! Carne asada burrito, no rice no beans, sour cream, fresh avocado(well they messed up and put guac), delicious. Secret is the freshness… Pat and cook tortillas all day, carne asada cooked on order. Lb of carnitas to go — only $ 5.99, may as well be pesos it’s so inexpensive. Only weakness was runny guac, wasn’t crazy about our side order. One of best in N. Cal for taqueria. I’m from San Diego and have searched hard and far for my 20 years up here!

If you’re a tourist or local looking for an authentic eating joint… this is the place. Family run, they probably serve the most authentic Mexican food in Sonoma Valley. I’ve seen everything from nopales con huevos(fresh cactus and eggs) to my the best damn Birria(stewed goat, my favorite dish) I’ve had in years. also, everything is spicy, the way it should be. The telenovelas and futbol games on TV add to the authentic ambience of this place, and the cook will make friendly conversation if you can speak a bit of Spanish Prices are about average compared to the rest of the Mexican establishments in the area. Portions, as expected, are enormous. the only complaint I have about this place is the lack of fountain soda, and the chips need some work. otherwise, everything else is absolutely perfect, and though I don’t know if this is allowed or official policy, but they didn’t say anything when I was drinking a 40 with my burrito. awesome place!

One tends to hedge on whether or not to share a hidden gem like this place. It’s a cute little authentic Mexican place, where the meat is BBQ’d out front. The ingredients are fresh(the smoothies are good too) and prepared with precision. The prices are more than reasonable. The staff is real Mexican, so don’t expect witty wordplay and banter; also, I have mixed feelings about the Spanish soap operas in the background. But as a day-to-day, bang for your buck place, it’s hard to beat. P. S. Watch yourself in the parking lot, it feels a little dangerous, traffic-wise.
