Ate a pastor(BBQ pork) super burrito today, Memorial Day. A standard super size. Lots of sour cream and rice. Reasonable amount of guacamole. The pork was so-so – a bit of distinctive flavor, but dry, and not too much of it. Perhaps it sat around for hours. At $ 8, an okay burrito at a better than average local price. Chips on the thin side, and without excess salt. Selection of self-help salsas, a plus.

We’ve been going to Los Primos on Hwy 12 for probably over 25 years. In all that time there have been only a very few disappointing experiences, and the complaints were so minor I’ve forgotten them. I prefer thinner/lighter chips but whatever, it’s no big deal. The salsa is probably the best I’ve had pretty much out of all the local places. The salsa bar was added sometime in the last decade, replacing little containers of pickled peppers and carrots that used to be on all the tables. Now the bar is in the corner offering the various accouterments — pickled jalepeños, limes, various salsas — I love their pico de gallo and their salsa verde is super fresh, hands down the best I’ve had. I just went to another place tonight and theirs looked like it came from a can. Night and day. Once in a while they even have had nopales salsa. I’m not sure if they maybe started charging a little extra for extra salsa in to go orders– otherwise I’m not sure what other reviewers are talking about. The bar is there to load up. We lived on the Super Taco plates since they were 3.50 or less — they are now over 6 I think but a very filling meal– I usually order extra tortillas and make 3 – 4 tacos out of the one giant mounded one that it comes with(along with rice/beans/lettuce/sour crema/guac). I usually get al pastor, sometimes carne asada. Both are great. Can’t go wrong. I love the chili rellenos too. I also have had many excellent burritos, my preferred being the stewed/shredded chicken. You can get black beans etc. as well. The fish plate is good too(forgetting what they call it). Sometimes in the winter we’ve had jugo de something. darn I forget what it’s called– it was on a hand written paper sign one day and we asked about it and decided to try it. It was a wonderful soup with a flavorful semi-clear broth featuring beans, carne asada I think and bacon, plus some tomato, onions etc. Really nice for cold weather. It’s been a long time but I once tried the ceviche and liked it as well. One of the best things there forever is the fresh made juices. Just so great. We get the carrot & orange combo and it’s a thrill to the senses, such beautiful color and flavor. Highly recommend! I also like tamarindo but hardly ever get it(not sure if they still serve it). We’ve taken small groups there, maybe 4 – 8, and always happy eaters. It’s funny over time how it seems the demographics may have shifted a bit– in the old days we used to see a lot of bigger mexican families coming in with kids etc. Sometimes you’d see groups still in soccer clothes. A lot of working people favor it. In recent years I think the incursion of taco trucks has taken a big toll along with the seemingly endless road upgrades that went on forever and resulted in the place losing it’s front parking. There is always parking around the corner. Still, same reliable food and no nonsense service from the operators. They repainted the interior a couple times and put new floors and tables etc and it looks much nicer than when we first used to go. Very homey local vibe, regulars of all types. Same people have been running if forever too, maybe a few shifting around but pretty much the same gang. If you are lucky they might even have flan when you are there– one of the proprietors wives would make it. Not sure if that’s still the case. Last note– one of our favorite things is to order a huevos con chorizo breakfast to go with extra tortillas and split it. Fills up both of us, super delicious! :)

Yummy quick food. Servers were friendly and spoke great English. Not sure why someone reported«not good for groups». Our group of 14 worked out great.

Ok. My group was a little less thrilled because of a sad enchilada but the burrito was great.

Fresh salsa bar fantastico. The green one was sublime. Pastor tacos had plenty of tasty pork and filling. Tortas so huge you gotta take half home. Yum!

Great quaint place with hefty portions and personable service. Unpretentious environment with good food. It was a great end to and contrast to a day full of vineyard visits. They are also able to accommodate vegans as well. I got the vegetarian burrito with peppers mushrooms and onions. Big portions.

Everything was excellent. Home made chips with a fresh salsa bar, huge burritos and great tacos. If you’re going to Sonoma Raceway this place is 5 minutes away.

Alright, if you score this less than 3 stars, you’re probably high as hell. Well, even in that case it would probably end up being a 5… but aside from that jamble, This. Place. THISPLACE. Holy black beans, it’s delicious. Had a Super 49er Burrito, al pastor of course, could only consume, at most, about 1⁄3rd. Wait, I did mention al pastor, right? OHHEAVENLYPASTOR, thank you for blessing us with your incredible seasonings and spices. Seriously though, you have to try the pastor, it blew my mine and gave me a whole new appreciation for it. Looking for good horchata, too? Well, now you’ve got two reasons to go.

The chips and salsa are delicious. If you’re going to eat here, you better come hungry. The portions are huge for the prices. An average burrito will be the size of the plate. It’s delicious of course. Must have here are the chips and assorted homemade salsas. Ambiance is very Mom and Pop, but the wait staff are very friendly and attentive.

One of the best places for Carnitas in Sonoma. I’ve only had burritos here, but they have always been very good, authentic and pretty inexpensive for the size you get.

Basic storefront eatery. Dining room is old, cheaply furnished, yet clean. Owners and servers are friendly, welcoming and gracious. Very good food. Have happily eaten the fish fillet plate, carnitas, chile verde, chicken tacos. Salsa bar has 8 choices. Only the pickled jalapenos with onions is shockingly spicy. Low food prices. Fish fillet dinner is $ 8. Bottle of Carta Blanca or Modelo beer is $ 3.75. On the last outing there were four of us. We ate until stuffed. Total bill was $ 42 with tax.

I come here with my daughter about once a month, and the owner recognizes us and remembers what we like to order! He even knows what tortillas she likes, and that I like to get a knife with my food! I always enjoy the fileta de pescada a la plancha — grilled fish plate — with black beans, and we share a flan for dessert. for around $ 10 each, including drinks. It doesn’t get much better than this!

After my breakup with Taqueria Hacienda for their constant poor service and overcharging, we decided it was time to find a new mexican restaurant. The salsa is awesome, and I’m pretty sure they don’t charge for it as the salsa is serve yr self(in regards to a different review) But, really, what’s amazing here? The BBQ pork. I am quite possibly the world’s pickiest pork-eater(to the point where i just normally say i don’t like it, cause usually, i don’t). But when it’s good — i love it. First time we ate here wife inquired about the pork, but ended up getting the chicken. The awesome server brought us a free bbq pork taco to try — DELICIOUS. Full of flavor, well cooked, and not super fatty. Got the bbq pork nachos 2nd time around, and was very happy. The carne asada is pretty good and my wife loved the shredded chicken. We had different servers both times and they were both very friendly. One word of advice(and one star off for this) DON’T order the horchata. it seems to be made from a mix and is very grainy and NOT tasty, but they have plenty of flavors of jarritos to make up for it.

There is only one thing that keeps me coming back here, and that’s the delicious BIRRIA burritos that can’t be matched ANYWHERE. It is probably the tastiest piece of goat meat I’ve had in my entire life, and I’ve had ALOT of goat meat. the other burritos are fairly good, I’d say 3 ½ out of 5 stars. but a few things REALLY irked me, hence the 3 stars instead of 5: the chips, well… they were burnt. I didn’t even finish them all, and that’s extremely rare for me to do at a taqueria. And what place charges extra for more salsa? A respectable Taqueria establishment should give you free salsa and free chips, and bonus points if those chips are unlimited… but to charge for salsa!!! that’s pretty low.

This is a great hole-in-the-wall place. The portions are large, the prices are low, and the salsa is hot! Mellow staff that works its butt off, EXCELLENT Al Pastor, and super fast kitchen. I LOVELOSPRIMOS! Also, Steak tacos are the best in Sonoma and you can get fresh squeezed carrot juice in a 32 ounce size for half what you buy it for at the market. WTF!

I’ve been going here lately. The food and service has been good. I’ve been eating chorizo tacos everywhere I’ve been going lately. Their chorizo tastes kind of sweet, just enough heat– not totally burning. Their carnitas was pretty good too. I like their red salsa, it’s kind of smoky.

I hope this doesn’t come across the wrong way but I like a Mexican food place that has a very low percentage of gringos in it. And that’s because I like it authentic and, in my possibly warped mind, fewer gringos = damn good Mexican food. Granted the gringo percentage shoots up the minute I walk in, but I digress — This is a restaurant review not an algebra equation. Taqueria Los Primos is the most authentic Mexican food I have found in the Sonoma Valley that isn’t on wheels. Los Primos is a little hole-in-the-wall located on Highway 12 next to a hair salon. But that’s its charm. My friend Jeffrey and I(we consider ourselves aficionados of Mexican cuisine) ate lunch here one Saturday and were delighted. We both ordered three-item combo plates and cold Pacificos and paid less than $ 30 for the whole meal. On second thought, I think we ordered a couple tacos to go too and the bill was still under $ 30. The service was unpretentious, quick and friendly to boot. They do take-out as well.
