We(two of us) stayed at the hotel and ate here three separate times. We are from out of town so did not realize there are sooooooo many other dining options within walking distance. The first meal we ordered the quesadillas, sliders, and tater tots along with a french tip sandwich. The quesadillas were just strange and did NOT taste good. They were loaded with cheese, tomato, and what seemed like a whole, uncooked onion. We did not eat more than a few bites because of the pungent taste it left. The sliders were like hockey pucks… waaaay over-burnt and flavorless. We were happy to see the tater tots were cooked perfectly(lol) so gobbled up all of those. The french tip sandwich was just okay. The meat was dry but the sauce was fairly decent. The bread was good. The next morning we wanted to try the breakfast. We ordered the All American with over-easy eggs and crispy bacon along with the Biscuits and Gravy. All I can say positive is the eggs were cooked perfectly. The bacon was microwaved and the biscuits and gravy were horrible and tasteless severely lacking sausage. We expected a down-home fresh breakfast and what we got was worst than McDonalds. Please don’t ever microwave bacon… trust me, the customer will notice. You can also cook up some Jimmy Deans sausage with a packet of McCormick’s sausage gravy and it would taste more homemade than what you are currently serving. Our third and final trip here we combed the menu for some«safe» items to eat. Of course right away we knew we were getting those perfect tater tots and they were once again cooked to perfection. In addition we decided to go with the street tacos and were just confused when they arrived. They were more like taquitos and had a strange taste; we set them aside and couldn’t finish. We both had the tortilla soup that was mediocre. In addition to the obviously frozen, not fresh, food the service was hit or miss. The servers were generally very friendly but lacked attentiveness and got overwhelmed if there were a few tables. Also we only received a greeting once and it’s not intuitively obvious that we have to seat ourselves(I’m still not sure if we were supposed to wait to be seated). I know this review seems negative but it’s what we experienced. If you are hungry and looking for quality food go out the hotel, cross the street and go find another restaurant. There are burger places, outdoor seating pubs, etc across the street. We found the most delicious Mexican food restaurant(los mexicanos) within walking distance. The only reason this place gets two stars is because the servers were friendly, the restaurant was clean and beautiful and the drinks were cold. So much potential but falls short on their food.

Do not eat here. Came right before the kitchen was gonna close but that wasn’t an excuse to serve what they tried to serve me. Took one bite and said I didn’t like it. The server said«oh, okay». Walked it back to the kitchen and that was it. Expected some kind of a break on the bill or something. Got nothing. Very disappointed. Will not be back.

My boyfriend and I were staying at this hotel. We decided to stop in for a quick drink and a late dinner. For a Saturday night the place was pretty empty and we sat at the bar. The bartender was really nice and made a great margarita. I ordered the cheese quesadillas(they’re technically an appetizer but I do what I want) and they were pretty good. My boyfriend had a steak with asparagus. I was nibbling the asparagus off his plate and it was probably the best asparagus I’ve ever had! If you’re staying at the hotel you should stop in.

A solid 4 stars but giving it 5 cause other people have been ripping it so hard. We came here and had two glasses of wine, two appetizers, a burger and chicken sandwich. All were really good and the service wasn’t bad OR slow. I don’t know what other people were complaining about or perhaps they’ve upped their game. The fries are especially good. I am normally one to complain and be really picky.(Not good qualities, I know.) if you are staying at the hotel and are scared off cause of the reviews, don’t be. It’s fine for a decent meal, not anything to rave about but not terrible.

Worst breakfast experience at this place. I ordered crab cake and it felt like it was old and frozen. Also, I informed the waiter that I was pregnant and preferred fully cooked eggs. He brought my food out and the egg was not cooked. So I had to tell him that I cannot eat and he blamed the cook. So he took another 10 minutes to have my eggs cooked. And again the same story. How can you make the same mistake. I ended up not eating eggs at the restaurant because I didn’t think they were understanding simple English at this hotel restaurant. And the waiter ended up charging me full price even though both the times the eggs were not fully cooked and it was their mistake. And my husband country side gravy was horrible as well. And we were there at 7am eating breakfast and people started coming later after we placed the order. But the service was slow. I don’t think we’ll dine at this place again.

My boyfriend and I came here for drinks and appetizers and we love this place! Alex is an outstanding bartender and made us the best drinks. Great bar. Comfortable atmosphere and simple but delicious food menu.

Do not come here for dinner, even if you stay at the hotel the wait and food is Not worth it! Sat down with husband and 2 kids, the place is half empty and 40 mins later still no entrees. The waitress was very nice but she seemed frazzled and after waiting I asked where food was? They said we ran out of peanut butter for the sandwich your child offered but all other meals are ready and waiting. Seriously??? It took 30 mins to figure this it out and of course the 4 year old is starving at this point so we got up and went to Safeway. They gave us credits to eat there again but probably won’t. They packed up our food and we tried it back at our room and so gross. Glad didn’t pay for it. o I increased the rating from 1 star to 2 stars because we did decide to come back for breakfast and had a very positive experience. We were able to place our order fairly quickly and the servers were very attentive. The omelets were also amazing !!

Decided to come to this place since we were staying at the hotel. Walked in no waiters spotted anywhere and no sign to wait to be seated, no big deal. Found a spot and sat down at 7:40 pm Saturday night. The place looked half empty. Luckily we had a menu chilling on the table so we took our time looking at the menu and keeping a look out for a waiter… 10 min pass and we see one waiter walking by, she walked by multiple times and completely ignored us… Saw one more waiter walking by multiple times and we also got ignored… After waiting for 20 minutes I got one of the waiters attention by waiving my arm for 2 min, they waiter comes by and says«we are short it’s going to be a long wait» in a very rude tone and walks away… Okay I get it your busy and your management fucked you over but common man, they didn’t even offer us water… We had to ask at least 3 times… After a long while they waiter comes over and we order. The food was nothing special. We got the clam chowder, which seemed like it was chilling I a pot that was off the stove for hours and they just microwaved it for a min before serving it so halfway of eating my soup it was cold. We also got the Buffalo wings which was meh… And we got the chicken schnitzel which was a sandwich and it was too dry with zero flavor and bread was dry as well. We tried to get a hold of a server again to get some water, asked 3 times and even walked to the bar to get it… And they were plan rude«we will get you» and we were very patient with the whole thing. Fast forward to 9 pm, still waiting on water we gave up and went up to ask for the bill since no waiters were to be found… No manager on sights either… I don’t really blame the staff as much. It was poor management on a busy weekend in Tahoe. The one star, was for how the place looks! Will never come here or recommend to anyone.

This place is under rated I’ve been here twice now and both times I received excellent service from their friendly staff last night I got the build it yourself burger and this morning the French toast and both were excellent. The décor is really nice old style wood tables with a modern fell to it

I am disappointed to say the least, highly appalled by rudeness and lack of customer service displayed by a few employees. not the way i like to start my day not to mention talk about a poor breakfast experience. I have given then so many different opportunities to correct things, and at first things seemed to be getting handled a little better. which was great to see happen considering my husband and I had to extend our stay. we love everything else about our experience at the beach retreat and lodge and having the tavern is great when the management is on top of things. We have been staying here since the middle of October 2015, its now the day after thanksgiving and my morning started off wonderfully so i thought. till i ordered french toast togo, i wanted to enjoy it in the comfort of my room. I open my togo box and at first bite i am disgusted, having ordered this menu item in the past several times you can understand my disappointment when this time my french toast was not thoroughly cooked. raw egg mix in the center of every slice of my breakfast. yuck. I took it back to the tavern counter immediately 1) the uncooked egg need to be brought to the cooks attention and addressed properly, 2) every dish should be executed properly and checked before it leaves the kitchen and is placed before the guest. Then I am told by the waiter that no comp will be provided, only willing to have cook remake the order. having 16 yrs experience in hospitality this response was an unethical one from a business stand point in my book, never are you rude to the guest first of all and secondly a kitchen mistake should be greeted with an apology with a kind offer to remake the entrée… especial when my breakfast togo cost me $ 14. but then to antagonistically press the issue further the staff member then tells me in an escalated tone” if you don’t like it, don’t eat here!” no employee should ever say thing to a guest ever!!! excuse me sir!!! Disappointed and appalled are the kindest way i could be polite about the outrageous statement to leave this waiters mouth. 1) customer service– none here! 2) if I was the manager that employee would have been fired immediately! 3) never ever in a hospitality position do you ever treat a guest in this manner. 4) your job is to ensure every guest has a wonderful experience and you invite them back after every visit thus ensuring happy customers which keep the business open not to mention job security. I can only imagine how many other guests have encountered such a horrible experience. and considering that breakfast is the main start of everyone’s day its wiser to ensure that everyone have the best experience possible. Having been here as a long term guest, I find this to been an even bigger upset then some would. See when you have spent nearly $ 3,000 during your month stay at the lodge you expect more in the customer service dept. and while we have enjoyed our experience when dealing with housekeeping whom is always providing a wonderful guest experience and front desk personnel have done a fabulous job providing amazing customer service, even the warm morning greeting or afternoon greetings provided by maintenance while walking on property has also aided in a truly wonderful experience during our lengthy stay this holiday season.(our stay unexpectedly has been thus long due to fabulous things like snow and fun events around town, plus a relocation of job to this quaint town, we only want other visitors to have the best experience possible no matter where they stay or dine or shop etc throughout a town we love) Previous visits and complaints to management about our visit to the tavern have been handled both ethically and with wonderful customer service by kitchen management. And during our stay the tavern recreated their dinner menu. I highly recommend the dinner menu with a few exceptions– the soup daily is always the same and it would be wonderful to see a change, as well as the chili is not fabulous by as means. furthermore the breakfast menu could use some attention while the sunrise sandwich is wonderful as is the french toast when cooked thoroughly items such as the biscuits n gravy would be tastier if the biscuits were made fresh in house. and it wouldn’t hurt to add a few fresh baked muffins to the menu. the steak n eggs would be better if the choice of cut of meat was more tender(.in the past. i had ordered my steak medium and was served a steak that was rare). the potatoes have been improved and that is wonderful. I am disappointed to see the onion rings were removed from the dinner side options on the new menu and the wedge fries are not great. the tatter tots is a nice difference when compared to other restaurants around town, I like having a choice not provided elsewhere i am certain others do as well. and the new addition of pretzel bites to their football menu great however only when the bites are cooked in the oven not put into the deep fryer!

Ditto the other one star reviews that say don’t eat here. Stopped in for breakfast out of convince of it being in the hotel and ordered the crab eggs Benedict. It arrived slow and cold, much like the winter storms that roll into Tahoe. The menu boast that crab is served over two English muffin halves with two eggs. I got no English muffins and one of the poached eggs was under cooked and had exploded all over my plate. The waiter was almost apologetic when he delivered it. As soon as I said something about it, he immediately comped the food and two cups of coffee for me.

Don’t bother. … terrible food. Priced high, very unappetizing. I ordered huevos. Rancheros. Came on a very greasy fried tortilla, canned refried beans, 2 eggs a bit of salsa. For $ 13.00. Servers were very nice, and place was clean. Food though. … not so good.

The Tavern at Tahoe is located inside the Beach Retreat and Lodge. If you are looking for great pleasant and friendly staff, this is where you need to go. They make visitors feel welcome with their beautiful smiles and professional attitude. And the place is super clean, service is fast and efficient. I will definitely come back. Giselle

The bartender Ryan was great. He made great recommendations for drinks and even convinced us to go to the hotel’s other restaurant The Boathouse the following night, which we did. The food was good. I had a the vegetable Panini sandwich(added chicken lol) and my boyfriend had the burger with ghost pepper cheese(super spicy). One major disappointment: There was a lady with two yapping Jack Russell’s that sat at the bar that really bothered us. These dogs could not possibly be service animals based on their behavior. Management should have asked her to leave.

A HUGE Shout out to Ryan at the Tavern and his amazing attitude. During our visit yesterday he was the only run in the bar and also had the patio. Not only did he handle the many guest with kindness, but he treated everyone as if they were the only people in the place. His friendly attitude was truly wonderful. Not once did he appear stressed, angry or out of control due to the many customers. The one thing I would also like to point out is the customers ranged in age from 5 years to 80 and Ryan treated ALL guest as if they were VIP’s. We thank you Ryan and we will be back for sure. It is without a doubt we will come back and stay at The Beach & Lodge and Resort. Thank you, Kelly B Sparks NV :)

Don’t waste your money. We are staying at the beach retreat hotel and the tavern is located in the lobby, so we thought we’d try it out. They have a kids menu and charge $ 7 for the mostly frozen food that they serve and another $ 3 for a drink in a small cup. My husband ordered the ½ chicken, only to be told they were out of it. They had only opened an hour before. I ordered the pot roast sandwich. You could tell that it was microwaved, it had hot and cold spot to it. It was bland and over half of it was fatty. The service was slow, as he also served as the bartender. We had no utensils and had to wait until the server made his appearance to ask for some. He never came back to check on us. We sat and waited for drink refills for almost 20 minutes. Skip this place if you want decent service and good food because this isn’t the place to get it!

Don, our bartender, was fun friendly attentive and poured a great cocktail! Locals doscount was super nice to see. Don let us know about it without us even asking. Although a tourist destination, it wasn’t overly touristy in the bar. The food was fresh and deliicious. We had burgers that were cooked to perfection with Ghost Pepper Jack cheese. Yum!. Tons of TVs but no loud distractions. Will definitely go back Football Sundays will be great here! Locals should give it try.

Horrible! It was terribly understaffed. I think the bartender was our waiter. I believe he was the only one working that night because I didn’t see anyone else there. We waited FOREVER, only because there was nobody working! The food sucked too. The clam chowder has the consistency of oatmeal and the salad was warm and limp. The croutons were stale too. My hubby had the sliders which were rubbery and gross. Way overpriced too. What a big disappointment.
