Sushi is great but came to try their udon soup and leaving unhappy. I had the tempura udon. I DONOT recommend it here. I love udon soup but this one is a sad representation. Flavorless salty water and they had no spice or sesame seeds to top it. They also don’t offer to add an egg. Couldn’t eat it.

This place is such a classic spot Ericka G. hit me up and said lets go I reserved a spot for us at the bar area. We parked right behind the restaurant which you must pay throught your phone. When we entered the spot I noticed that the place was remodeled and looked alot more sleek. The service was great our menus were brought to us quickly with two waters. My favorite thing to order at this place by far is the tuna tartar it tastes so fresh and it’s just delicious. I was introduced to an appetizer which was salmon that was grilled but just slightly still a little raw it tasted also really good. My roll was a simple dragon roll that has shrimp and we also ordered one that has salmon as well to try it. Since we were feeling the love we ended our night with some fried donuts with condensed milk how can you go wrong!!! Definite must spot in the South Miami area.

The more places I go to the more I am sure that this is the best sushi around. Always tastes so fresh and delicious, the Dragon roll makes me so happy. Only negative is that the place is so tiny and you have to squeeze between tables.

The food here is okayish, fish in sushi is not even fresh, and fried ice cream was super soggy! Cheapskate even charge us for hot sauce to take the food down. Not coming back again!

I’m a regular at Akashi and have been coming almost every weekend for the past few years. They have the best sushi which is what keeps us coming back. The service has always been mediocre and the restaurant has always been loud because of size and how loud or fellow miamians are, but today really did it for us. If we ever come back it’ll only be for takeout and I hate to leave such a negative review. So… Tonight there was a large table with college aged people. The guys were wasted banging on the table, yelling across the restaurant(warning. An attack is coming), and smashing glasses on the table. They must’ve broken about 5 glasses and thrown them away in the bathroom. Several tables complained including us, and the manager simply stated they were having a good time and paying well!!! We couldn’t believe what we were hearing! If I was the manager there I would’ve called the cops a long time ago. I don’t care how much they’re paying! The guy in the table next to us said he had been coming there for 15 years and would never come again. Even decided to leave $ 0 tip because of the horrible experience and the manager didn’t care. Nobody said anything to them. It was a nightmare. Never again… So sad.

The food is amazing BUT the service is awful. The waitresses take forever to check on your table, you’re lucky if you can a refill while you sit. The wait for the food is at least 30 min and you’re usually waiting by the door for another 10 min when you first walk in until they decide to acknowledge your prescience.

3.5 so I’ll round up. The place is a lot smaller than it appears from the outside, and it was popping. Very full, the bar was a little dingy but the service was efficient and friendly. The sushi was good, I had the Alex roll and spicy tuna roll

Service was great! We were half an hour late on a Saturday night for our reservation, but they kept our table ready and didn’t give us any grief about being late. Very gracious of them. The rolls came quickly and were very tasty. All of the rolls were a significant amount of food(for sushi) and the more expensive rolls were genuinely worth the extra. We didn’t try any of the non-roll options, but the rolls were a great meal. The Mermaid and the part-time rolls were our clear favorites. Night and day was also great. Alex and bagel were ok, but nothing to write home about. The sunset parking garage is also right next to it, which makes getting here convenient if you aren’t from the area and don’t want to navigate street parking in sunset.

This place deserves five stars!!! We got there approximately 10 minutes before closing. The waiter greeted us warmheartedly which was highly appreciated. The ingredients in the South Miami and sunset rolls were fresh. Food was served at a timely manner, and the atmosphere was filled with positive vibes.

Love it here! You gotta go for the Alex Rolls! I also ordered the chicken katsu dinner which is probably enough to feed three people because the plate I got had three massive servings I would highly recommend it to share it with the table.

Akashi is so tiny and cute. They have great fried rice and good fresh sushi. Always good to stop by. I do feel they’re a bit over priced.

This restaurant has been around for many years and it’s never disappointed me. I enjoy this restaurant a lot more than the coconut grove location. The food is more or less is on the same level of good, but this location is way better when it comes to service, cleanliness, and the fact that they have only inside seating. Eventhough the outside seating is nice at the grove we do live in Miami so if it’s too hot or raining then the outside seating isn’t too nice.

I give this place 3.5 stars. It was my first time here and it is obvious that this place has lasted all this time because of how busy it was. Definitely worth making a reservation. The restaurant is very narrow and does not have much seating but is very modern looking. I ordered the Alex 2 roll which was very good. The fried rice however was very salty. The service was spotty our waiter would come and go and would disappear every once in a while.

3.5 stars so I’ll bump it up to a 4. I’ve always liked the modern feel of this place and how it totally surprises anyone who has only seen it from the outside. I miss the booths, but the new chairs are still cool. The menu is pretty extensive. I’m not very adventurous when it comes to sushi, so I ordered the dragon roll. It was pretty darn big and the price($ 9.95) was right. It pretty good but didn’t exactly wow me. I’ve had better but I was still pretty satisfied. I also ordered fried rice and Thai donuts. The fried rice was okay, the Thai donuts were great. Service is good and very quick. The food comes out quickly too! Prices are pretty good considering the area. Although it doesn’t blow me away, Akashi is pretty good. I’d happily come again.

Walking in, I noticed how tiny this place was. It has a modern feel inside, but on a peak night it can get crowded and quite loud. Their menu prices were fair considering the area, but you also have to pay for parking. As for the food, I ordered a dragon roll that was on the larger side and very flavorful — but nothing exceptional. A side order of fried rice was really salty. The Thai donuts for desert was pretty good. As you can tell, I only ate the«Americanized» menu, and not the real stuff, so take that into account.

This place has«good» sushi if you are looking for an inexpensive sushi restaurant. Otherwise, I would not recommend it. First, there is no host or waiting area when you arrive. Mind you there isn’t anyone to even greet you. Eventually, one of the waiters will notice you have been waiting at the door for over 10 minutes, and will ask you how big your party is. It is really awkward that there isn’t a waiting area, because you literally have to block the exit to wait for the next available table. Don’t bother making reservations either, because you will have to wait regardless. Once you are finally seated, things do get much lighter. The service becomes okay. Don’t expect to have amazing service, but the food does come out quick. The sushi is good and does seem fresh. My favorite sushi rolls were Alex #2 and Sexy Mama. I like how you are able to customize or omit some of the ingredients in the sushi rolls. If it wasn’t for their mediocre/poor service, I think this restaurant would be an ideal sushi place for those who want a quick inexpensive bite.

Love this place! My favorite is the Alex Roll. The only downside is Akashi is pretty small so you have to be prepared to wait especially on weekends. As long as you keep that in mind, you should be fine. And the wait is well worth it.

My family and I have been customers at Akashi for over 12 years. This is our favorite sushi restaurant in Miami. The tuna tartare is the best, their sashimi is always fresh, and the sushi rolls never disappoint. Alex #2, Part-Time roll and Jennifer roll our probably my favorite rolls. Their chicken fried brown rice is always so yummy especially if you eat it with the tuna tartare. Service isn’t always the best(never horrible just average) since they tend to get busy but that has never discouraged me from going. I go to restaurants based on the quality of the food, when it comes to service as long as I get my meal at a timely manner that’s all I really care about.

I will say that seeing the place on the outside, walking in was not what I expected. From the outside you would think it was a older feel kind of place with perhaps floor seating, but that is not the case. The place is rather modern in style. It has a long lay out with the sushi bar at the very end, with the bathrooms right at the entrance and there was no real host area to wait to be seated. I had to just kind of walk into the center of the restaurant before someone sat me. The server was nice for the short encounter we had. I ordered the wakame salad and the Sunset Roll. Both items came out so fast that it was lightning speed. The salad was good, as is to be expected. I did enjoy the Sunset roll, which comes with salmon, tuna, crab and white fish. The serving is pretty big. I was very full with the roll. They only thing was that it wasn’t rolled tight so some of the pieces fell apart before they reached my mouth. Overall, for like a quick bite with friends or family this is the place. But if you’re looking for a date spot, the ambiance really doesn’t fit, in my opinion.

My girlfriend loves this place. Anytime we’re looking for a place to eat and not sure where to go, her first suggestion is usually Akashi… This is always our go to sushi restaurant. This was the first restaurant that I ate at while experimenting with sushi so I have a bit of an affinity for sushi at Akashi. The service is normally pretty attentive and quick, the sushi always comes out in a timely matter. Today we had a server that i hadn’t seen before and I will admit that service was SLOW. We finished eating and I was just chillin waiting to ask for the check for a good 15 min… I absolutely HATE that. Today we ordered: — «Mariano»: Had shrimp tempura, krab salad, masago, cream cheese, topped with baked salmon, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and«crunch»(fried tempura sprinkled on top). This roll came in aluminum foil and on your first bite you can tell it was baked. This has to be the best sushi I’ve had. The baked salmon adds such a different oomph to the sushi roll. This is one you need to order! –Sexy Mama: Tempura Salmon, krab salad, cream cheese, masago, topped with avocado. I haven’t had tempura salmon in sushi so I decided on this roll. I was also really impressed, it was an awesome roll. Highly recommend it as well. — «Holt» Roll: This was a riceless roll with tuna, salmon, crab salad, and avocado stuffed inside a seaweed roll. I went with this roll bc it was something a bit different than what I normally order. I do tend to order lots of tempura rolls and… anything tempura tastes good lol… This roll is what you’d order if you are watching calories and are looking for a healthy meal option. It’s straight up fish and avocado. As I finished the roll it left me with a light feeling, very different than when you eat a roll full of rice and tempura which can be a bit on the heavier side. I FELT healthy eating this roll. The good thing is that it also tasted very very good. I would order this in a pinch anytime. This roll is definitely worth a try. In the past we’ve tried many of their other rolls including Dragon, Alex #2, and more but I can’t remember them all. We’ve always left super happy from Akashi and have always enjoyed their sushi. My GF loves their fried rice. It comes in a cup. Not sure what they put in their rice, some type of oil? but I do admit I like their fried rice a lot as well. One thing I really like about Akashi is their reasonable pricing. Because of it, I am a regular at this restaurant. Every time my GF and I have left Akashi we leave completely satisfied both in the flavors of the food we ate and full from the quantity. I have to mention portions cuz I’m big on portions. To me Akashi offers a great value.

So my fiancé and I are on a very strict diet :(but turns out this place has some amazing choices that fit with our rules and regulations. We tried the riceless roll and it was divine and had the sashimi appetizer and its small but very fresh. This place gets packed, but looks like they might take reservations. The service can be spotty but on date night you forget and just have a good conversation. My suggestion is don’t come starving and sit at the bar so you can see the magic happen. PS– parking is sort of a mission but there are two pay to park lots behind the restaurant.

Not a fan of this place. The location is tiny, tiny, tiny. I hate the fact that one must wait by the bathrooms to be seated, this totally grosses me out. Rolls were ok, but will not return, much rather go a block down to sushiRa

Tried Akashi on my last night in Miami, the space is nice, but the food did not match expectations and expense. I had a nigiri platter that I felt was not as good as other restaurants in the area like Matsuri, despite being the same price, with the selection and the individual nigiri composing the platter vein of lower quality fish comparatively. It also took quite a while to get the check and the additional takeout order that I had already placed at the beginning.

Meh., The indicators of disinterest. The Fishtank. The salad. The reluctant service. The automatrons behind the bar. So sad. The positives: location. A formula that works for the patrons. The Fishtank.(Sigh) the tank sums up the entire experience. Large with so much potential for magic and awe.

Probably the worst sushi I’ve had in recent memory, and the worst experience I’ve had trusting Unilocal reviews in distant cities. Service, restaurant, and décor were fine. Parking was a pain(I ended up paying $ 6.50 for an hour at the garage nearby). No real problems there. The food, however, was bad. Basically everything from the sushi bar is something I wouldn’t review favorably had it come from a premade grocery store sushi display. There’s an easy way to judge sushi: rice. The rice here was abysmal(abyssal is maybe more appropriate). Hard, dry, cold. It seems like it actually was sushi rice, just badly prepared(I’ve been to places which used basmati or American white rice…). Rice requires skill to prepare, but isn’t a huge component of the cost of a good piece of sushi — you can make great nigiri for $ 0.50 if you know what you’re doing — but this place either didn’t know how, or didn’t care. Fish quality was adequate, but not stellar. I got the morawase a: 9 pieces of nigiri, 6 pieces of tekka maki. An «Alex #2 roll», recommended by the server, which was designed to keep surimi and panko factories at full production, and was… ugh. All of which were ruined by such horrible rice. Beef tataki which wasn’t bad; blissfully free of rice, and prepared by kitchen, vs. sushi chefs. $ 55 + $ 10 tip. It’s possible everyone in Miami likes sushi like this, and if so, go on eating at a place you enjoy. It’s possible this place had an off day, and I was just unlucky during my one and only visit. But after having had sushi in ~50+ cities around the world, I’m pretty sure my tastes are in line with global standards. What I received today was not sushi that a «reasonable person» would believe worthy of 4 – 5 stars.
