Housed in an old Taco Bell, this restaurant is hit-or-miss. You get lots of food but when you have to throw most of it away, you realize that you’ve wasted your money. I still haven’t found a good Middle Eastern place downriver.

My family ordered take-out from here early this week, and the food was pretty good. The service from the phone call and picking up our order was very awful though. I had called and placed my order, which was the sampler for 2, chicken shawarma, and the fattoush with chicken. I had to call back because I realized the sampler came with soup & salad(it states that on the menu) and the woman seemed upset because I had called back asking about the soup. I was told it is a choice of the 2, and not both, which bothered me because that is not what the menu reflects. I let that go and ordered Lentil(which was delicious). When we had picked up the food, there were 2 people arguing about our order. When we brought it home, we were missing some items from the sampler, but had double of others. It was plenty of food, but we were disappointed because we did want to try EVERYTHING that came with our choice. As for the chicken shawarma, we received the combination pita which had lamb and the person eating it dislikes lamb very, very much. Overall, if the order was taken in a friendly manner and we actually brought home everything we ordered correctly, this place would be rated 4 stars.

I’ve passed this place too much and finally decided to try it. Our order was ready quickly and staff was very nice. We ordered take out. Food was delicious! I’m in love with garlic sauce and theirs was pretty good. The hommous tasted extremely fresh. It tasted slightly different than im used to. I figure this may be a regional difference. It was good but not my favorite. Eitherway I could tell they just made it. The shwarmas were excellent as well. No complaints.

I usually come here for the fresh juice when I am home visiting. I have been coming here for a while now and the food is generally good. I was not happy with my ghallaba recently. The flavor is very good but if you want to charge this much for a dinner entrée, it should have more than $ 1 worth of chicken. No excuse for the price of this entrée. The veggies are good but onion, carrot, and pepper are fairly inexpensive. The rice is good and well seasoned, as is the hummus. This entrée is also $ 3 more than some nearby places charge. It needed about triple the amount of chicken. They gave me a lot of rice and pita, which will go to waste. This dish is meant to be balanced. The lentil soup is also more watery than most places. I might have to look for another Mediterranean place.

A decent spot, totally does the job when a middle eastern fix is in need… better options out there but I mix it in from time to time!

Came here on way to Wyandot Street Art Fair. This place is amazing! The homemade humus and garlic sauce have a wonderful taste and texture. Our server was super friendly as was the other worker. Both gave helpful suggestions for dinner. We got a sampler platter and there was plenty to go around. The meat was seasoned well and they weren’t skimpy with portion sizes. Would love to come back again.

This place has amazing garlic!!! And the staff is very friendly ! But for me the place needs a total makeover, it seems very dirty and outdated to me and that makes me not want to ever return ! And there were like Nate flying around, after them landing on my food I was done ! Cleanliness should be huge in this establishment ! And the prices are sorta high, I can pay less in a much nicer atmosphere. Will not return to this filth

Unfortunately, I have to downgrade my review of Alex Kabob after eating there a few times recently. The food has really gone downhill. Especially my order last night – the lentil soup tasted awful. like it was runny and just full of oil. The falafel was dry and hard as a rock and not very tasty or seasoned as well. The chicken we ordered also seemed dry. It just seems whomever is cooking no longer puts effort or love into it. Not sure what happened to this place as it used to be really great but after last night’s order and a few other times of disappointing experiences, I probably won’t be going back for awhile. It’s a shame because downriver is really lacking in good restaurants.

I go to a lot of Lebanese places in Dearborn. Yet this is my favorite place. They have the best hummus that I’ve had compared to anywhere else. I’m partial to the simple things. Chicken shawarma is my favorite. The fried kibbi is also good. However the real reason I love this place is the staff. They’re why I always come back. Their family run, the father runs the place, the kids do the waiting, and they’re amazing. Friendly, funny, smart, full of conversation, they’re a laugh. It’s definitely a hole in the wall, and when it’s cold outside, they’ll direct you to the warmer side of the restaurant for your sake. However, it’s clean and well kept and they have pride in it.

Since leaving my job downtown detroit, I have been on a quest to find Mediterranean food that rivals CK downtown. I tried Alex Kabob over the summer and ordered a shawarma sandwich for pickup. First off, the inside of the restaurant was filthy. It seemed that a good cleaning was in order about a year prior. I returned home with my food and the chicken was very fatty. I usually prefer dark meat, but the texture of the chicken really did me the wrong way. The garlic was thick like mayonaisse. I took two bites, threw it away, and went to white castle.

Very disappointing. After reading several good reviews on Unilocal and looking over their menu online I decided to order carry out on a Tuesday night. I ordered the Alex Plate, which according to their menu online consists of the following: Alex Plate $ 26.99(Chicken Shawarma, fried Kibbee, Grape Leaves, Shish Tawook, Shish Kafta, Falafel, Hommous, Rice & Salad). Here is what we actually got: Chicken Shawarma(cold, no flavor), Shish Tawook(mediocre), Shish Kafta(burnt, dry), Falafel(hard as a rock), Rice(good), grape leaves(dry, no flavor), salad(way too large of a portion compared to everything else, dressing lacked flavor), and some cold pita bread. No Hommous, No Fried Kibbee. I usually don’t write a place off after just 1 try but I don’t think i’ll be going back here. To sum it up, dry cold food with no flavor that’s over priced and I didn’t even get everything that I was supposed to get according to their menu.

Moved away and still miss Alex Kabob. We have tried so many Mediterranean restaurants and nothing holds a candle to this beautiful ‘hole in the wall’. Fabulous prices and excellent flavor! The wait staff is phenomenal!

We come to Michigan about twice a year to visit the hub’s family. Alex Kabob is a must visit everytime we come into town. Usually we head there strait from the airport it’s that good. Everything we’ve had on the menu is delicious. It all tastes homemade and fresh to order. Our usuals are the fatoosh, hummus, baba ghanoush, garlic sauce with pita bread and the chicken tawook. Seriously the best Mediterranean restaurant Downriver! Didn’t catch the sweet girl’s name tonight but she said her dad’s the owner, her customer service was excellent! Nothing in San Diego California even compares!

Great fattoush, chicken shawarma, bread and garlic! The building is a former Taco Bell and the ambience isn’t impressive but if you can overlook that, the food is delicious!

Place seemed a bit dirty and run down. Chicken shwarma lunch special came with lentil soup and fries, which were hand cut steak style. The chicken had virtually no shwarma seasoning, and was a bit too fatty and should have been trimmed. Service was acceptable, though I wouldn’t call again.

This place is ok but by no means of good quality. It hits the spot if you are craving middle eastern food but there are far better middle eastern places in the area to go.

The worst part about moving to Chicago was knowing I wouldn’t be able to eat here anymore. Alex Kebab House is easily the best middle eastern food downriver. The garlic sauce is amazing, hummus is top notch, and I haven’t had a single dish here that didn’t blow me away. Best thing on the menu: lamb gallaba. Every where I go, no one seems to have heard of it, and the recipes online don’t do it justice. I would eat their lamb gallaba daily, for every meal if I could.

Ordered the Alex Plate as a carry out this weekend. It came with a huge serving of rice, shish tawook, lamb kafta kebab, and some other chicken. It also came with a few stuffed grape leaves, two falafel, two kibbees, a large order of hummous and we upgraded to the fattoush. They gave us a lot of bread, which I usually love, but the bread was slightly stale. I like it when is fresh and chewy like when you pick it up from New Yasmeen. Overall it was a lot of food and tasted great. The takeout packaging left the hot food hot and the cold food cold. The service was very friendly and helpful. I had my baby with me and so they carried the order to my car and put it in my trunk for me. I would definitely return.
