I tried an italian ice from here a few weeks ago for the first time. I tried the green apple flavored one and I thought that it had the texture and taste of a slushee like you would get at 7 eleven so I did not even finish it. i wont be coming back here again. Next time I want an italian ice I will drive to Vecchitto’s in Middletown or Old Lyme

Fabulous product, but a tiny vanilla cone with a little dust of the Heath Bar topping was almost $ 5. I’ve had a lot of ice cream this summer, and what I paid at Rita’s was almost what it costs for 2 larger cones elsewhere…

I’ve never had custard ice cream before Rita’s, so the review will be biased. My friend has been trying to get me to go to this place for 3 years, but it’s always packed when it gets warm, and I have an aversion to crowds. Yesterday was perfect timing, though because there were only 2 other people(it was barely 60 degrees out.). I ordered a «kid’s cone»(still the largest ice cream cone I’ve ever gotten) for around $ 3.40 and was served what appeared to be the everlasting ice cream. Custard is ice cream with eggs added to it so that it remains frozen longer. It’s so incredibly smooth and creamy, and it’s «no drip» style made my outfit thankful it was selected. This ice cream cone is so big that I actually got full from it. That’s NOT a complaint, haha. Tourists and locals alike need to check this place out!

Rita’s is consistently delish at every location. We made our first trip to Rita’s of Southington tonight. It’s an old fashioned stand, where you stand outside and get served through a sliding glass window. Nowhere to go inside and sit down like some of the newer Rita’s. Ordered a small dish of half vanilla and half pear. The vanilla was terrific, creamy, sweet, with great flavor. The pear was a little too sweet for me. Gotta love Rita’s — bring on the Spring !!

I love Rita’s! Great Italian Ices and the custards are amazing. I really like that they change flavors often and have some great concoctions. The Pumpkin Cream Ice with vanilla custard and Reese’s in a Blendini is definitely a great fall favorite for me! This location is always very good and delivers consistent quality and customer service.

I really like Rita’s. I like the selection of flavors, even though its a bit smaller than my favorite place, they usually have something that is yummy! The girl serving was super nice and it seemed like you got a decent amount for the money.

Rita’s is delicious! They offer lots of different flavors of ice from traditional cherry to super sweet Sweedish Fish to the strange Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. Definately ask for samples before you make your choice! The ice is delicious and many of the fruit flavors even have little bits of real fruit in them. They have frozen custard too, which is much richer than frozen yogurt. The best choice is the gelati – which is a layer of custard, then a layer of flavored ice, then custard on top. Wonderful! I only wish they had smaller sizes available, as the regular is really filling!

So this was my first time at Ritas, my only experience with Italian ice up until this point was Luigis Italian ice in the freezer aisle. Lol. So many choices, I was unsure of where to begin… ice? Custard? A blend? The girl behind the counter was friendly and informative, explaining the difference between each product and allowing me to sample some flavors. I finally decided on a gelati(a blend of both cream ice and custard) a mix of red velvet cream ice and vanilla custard. To die for! The flavors of each were great, the custard is very rich — do not order a large unless you’re sharing. I wish they offered a kiddie size, I couldn’t finish mine. Very reasonable price, $ 3.99 for a regular sized gelati, I received more for my money than other ice cream shops in town. Will definitely be back, apparently their flavors change on a regular basis. Yay!

I’ve had custard before, but never frozen custard. However, I didn’t think it was anything special. I had the vanilla frozen custard. Reminded me of Cool Whip. It didn’t have too much flavor to it. I probably wouldn’t get it again. I’d rather have frozen yogurt.

LOVE frozen custard! If you haven’t tried frozen custard and like soft-serv you’ll love frozen custard…
