Tae and his crew always do a great job here and at their location in Reno. My wife and I have been coming here for a few years and love it. One of the few Sushi Restaurants that serve brown rice as an option. I always start with the Sassy Tuna. My wife is petite in stature and her rolls are a little smaller. Some other places in town sometimes load patrons up with rice, not the case at Tha Joint. Love this place!

Oh man I’ve been waiting so long to post this: This is the worst restaurant in Sparks and Reno. The management is terrible and unorganized. The servers are a bunch of ditsy college girls whose Daddy’s pay for everything. The food is never prepared on time. The tickets for the food ALWAYSGETLOST. The staff is crazy interchangeable so don’t get use to a server you like. The staff have a slutty dress code and get mad when they aren’t tipped 20 $ for putting on makeup. The manager is crazy and never fixes any issues, just let’s them continue. The bathrooms are gross and never kept well. The floors will ruin your shoes so had like you walked through a butcher shop. The menus are never clean and have food on them. Honestly the list goes on and I cannot wait for this business to officially be shut down. Keep on peeling

The sushi was out of this world fantastic. Very reasonable price than what we were used to. The server(I think Kristina or Kristy) was great and a very good conversationalist. The 2-for1 beers during the week are a good deal!

I have enjoyed a couple meals at Tha Joint, but the last one put me off forever. When we first arrived, the host ignored us for 10 minutes before asking if we wanted a table or the bar. Our drinks came right away, but our first order of nigiri took forever. The fish was room-temperature to lukewarm and all the nigiri we ordered had a ridiculous amount of Sriracha on it. In fact, everything was smothered in Sriricha, even the potstickers had a squiggle of it on them. WTF? To me, if you’re smothering something in a hot sauce, you’re trying to cover something up… like bad fish, maybe? Got sick to my stomach when I got home. We were not impressed and will not be going back.

My favorite sushi spot in the Reno/Sparks area! The staff is always super nice and attentive. I also really love how accommodating sushi bar is. I am able to order low carb/Paleo no rice hand rolls with no questions asked(not all you can eat) but still awesome! The sashimi is wonderful as well!

Stopped by Tha Joint again and had Gio as my sushi chef. Met him last time and he served up all kinds of stuff not on the menu. He’s very creative and knows how to blend tastes and artistry into one culinary explosion after another. Tell him what you like and he’ll create something that you will never see at any other sushi bar. Warm friendly atmosphere. Lively and busy. Second time here in Sparks in the last week and it was still«OFF the hook» good. Everything is prepared fresh. Gio order up some fried hamachi. Have always had it raw but it was surprisingly delicious when cooked. Very tasty all by itself… no sauces or seasoning. Seemed like it was getting busier as the night progressed but Gio was still on top of it through to the end. Had to ask for more iced tea a couple times but it was all good when the sushi started flowing. If I’m ever in Reno/Sparks, I’m going to make sure I spend at least one meal at Tha Joint. All you can eat and only $ 25.00. I’m used to $ 60 – 75 for what and how much I eat. Go!!! You won’t be sorry. There are other things to eat here but they have a sushi bar. So get some sushi. Check out some of the dishes Gio made:

It’s so sad that the sushi is so great but the service is so bad, that makes it not worth coming. I try to give this place several chances but every time the service has just been the worst! Don’t waste your time. Plenty other good sushi places in the area. Only gave it the one star just because I had to!

Only a second-timer, but definitely a fan. Table service and large bar. Chose table seating and received friendly, prompt service.(Noticed others doing AYC sushi were being served quickly as well.) Ordered the $ 24 combo that comes with choice of starter, entrée and dessert. Choose the sashimi plate twice. Great fish texture and beautiful presentation. Fresh tasting fish and creative rolls.(Sashimi plate is really enough for lunch on it’s own. Boxed up entrée and took home for dinner. Very tasty. Haven’t saved room for dessert yet.) The service has been very good. The place is clean, which is so important to me at a sushi restaurant.

I have been hearing about how great this place is for years now and finally had the opportunity to try them out. When I got there at 5:00 there was already a line out the door and a 45 minute wait which tells me «this is a great place» so I had bo problem waiting. My friend and I picked several different options from the appetizer and regular menu and were incredibly pleased and in awe over each and every item we tried. Everything was amazing. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful and checked on us often but not too often to disrupt out meal. So, it is clear that all of the rave reviews i have received from friends over the past years have been spot on. Perhaps i should listen to their advice sooner. I will definitely be returning here very soon and quite often.

Good local sushi joint overall. The fish is always fresh & cold. If nothing else, they are consistent. Service is always friendly & prompt. I feel like their rolls all sort of taste the same. They have a signature spice they use. That may be the source. Everybody loves the place though, so apparently I’m alone in that feeling. O’well — I like being unique.

Tha Joint was definitely one of my most-visited sushi restaurants in Reno before I got comfortable with trying different places! If you like spicy, you will like a lot of their rolls! The waitresses and sushi cheifs have always been friendly and the rolls have always been tasty I think I just got bored with the same selection so if they could expand their menu that would be a dream! Regardless, I’m sure I’ll be back soon to get my favs!(Tha 5-O, Tha Whole 9 Yards and Tha Epic High) :)

I was SO excited to go here finally… I’ve read so many great reviews about it. Honestly, I wanted to love this place. Sushi is my favorite, and I was looking forward to a great place to go when I’m in Sparks. Before I say anything else though, let me just say that the staff at Tha Joint in Sparks, are EXTREMELY nice! The first thing we got were the Muscles, and I was a little wary about getting them since the photos I’ve seen have all shown them to be a little«grey» looking… and yup. They came out grey and overcooked, with almost no flavor. Next came 3 of our rolls. Mine was cut really super thin, the salmon was cooked(which the menu had not described) and it wasn’t deep fried(which the menu said it was). My son’s was good(not great) and his girlfriends, she described as a glorified California Roll(even though the description was far from a California Roll). But ok… we ate the food. The quail egg shooters came out, the ponzu had waaaay too much vinegar. It was probably the worst one I’ve ever had. :-( They continued to stagger out our food 1 dish at a time, so we were all forced to either sit and wait, or 3 people share 1 smaller then normal roll. That went on for about 3 rolls. Then we realized it was 9pm, but the place was still packed even though they close at 9pm… so the waitress said not to worry about it, finish eating(which I thought was REALLY nice, even though I felt really bad). We put in an order for 2 more rolls and desert(because we ordered the all you can eat, and had barely had any food brought out to us so far). They brought the deserts out… BEFORE the rolls. Weird… but ok. I ordered the Tempura Banana(Because BANANA!!), and was really looking forward to it. What I got was a great attempt and something that sounds like it would be incredible… but the tempura was luke warm at best, and soggy. Not something I would ever order again. Then the waitress came out and said the chef had lost our ticket, so she needed to get our roll order again. By that time, the place was empty and I was feeling SUPER awkward, so I asked if we could just get our rolls to go. Yes I know it’s all you can eat, and you’re not supposed to take anything with you… but when you’re the last ones in the house because your orders keep getting overlooked or lost, it wasn’t our fault. At the same time, I didn’t want to be one of those rude people that stay way after closing. Luckily they allowed us take the rolls with us. Like I said, the STAFF were really sweet… but the timing and organization, along with the quality of the food, could really use some help. Maybe it was because the place had so many people, and even though we arrived an hour and a half before closing maybe it was that we chose to sit at a table and not the bar? I will probably give them another try… next time sit at the bar and see if it’s a better experience.

My 2nd Sushi place ive visited here in Reno, NV for sushi. There’s a few things ive liked, and of course things ive might have changed but not many. First off I would like to say that the food was so Amazingly! Yummy! Some of the names theyve come up with are genius. The guys who work there were very helpful, Francisco was our server up at the bar, he always was staying on top of his customers in front of him. I really asked him«please make me a roll, dont tell me what it is nor whats in it» he made me a roll that will make me come back for more sushi. In the future. The place was very clean, the waitress was very helpful. The bad, not to much to say but keep the food cooking and keep cranking out those yummy delicious! Rolls.

Tha Joint is at the top of my list as far as good sushi goes. I’ve noticed many sushi restaurants have a lot of the same rolls as one another. I like Tha Joint because they have quite the diversity of sushi rolls to choose from for AYCE. Not only do they have a unique menu, they are also reasonably priced! It’s $ 18.95 for AYCE lunch and $ 23.95 for AYCE dinner(they also do military discount on weekdays). The service is always on point as well; I have never had a bad experience with the chef or waitress. They keep on top of the drink refills and clearing the dirty trays out of your way. I can’t stand when I’m at a sushi restaurant and all of my AYCE trays just build up next to me. Even living by UNR, I always make the trip out to Sparks when I’m craving sushi. It’s totally worth the drive! PS. Tha Mobster is a must try if you like your rolls a bit on the spicy side!

Let me start off by saying I’m a sushi snob. I’m originally from Hawaii where we have some of the best sushi places in the world; so I have been very hesitant in trying sushi here in Reno/Sparks. That being said, I had a wonderful experience tonight. Being the sushi snob that I am, I do not like crazy rolls and if you have quality ingredients they shouldn’t be covered up with sauces or… cream cheese… any way I ordered all Negri except for one tekka maki. My favorite of the night hands down was the hamachi(yellow tail). I think I had a total of 5 orders of it. The fish was so buttery and delicate I almost couldn’t stop. My only critique would be that the rice needed a little more seasoning. I can’t wait to go there again!

While this is a bit of a drive from my house, for me it’s totally worth it. This is one of my favorite all you can eat(AYCE) sushi spots in town! Lunch is served from 11am-4pm and is $ 18.95, and dinner is from 4pm-9pm for $ 23.95. The AYCE price includes appetizers(miso, edamame, mussels, etc.), how ever many rolls you fancy, without being wasteful, and dessert(ice cream or mochi). I love the friendly staff and how the sushi chefs often holler«hello!» and«thank you!» across the restaurant as you enter and exit. Personally, I prefer sitting at a table here because it gives me more time to peruse their extensive menu and fill out my order sheet. When sitting at the bar I dislike having to get the sushi chef’s attention to ask for a roll because it can feel like I am interrupting them in the middle of another order. But that’s just me. There are so many variations on this menu, you truly can’t go wrong. My most favorite roll is probably Tha Five-O, which is a delicious blend of shrimp, cream cheese, cilantro, avocado, spicy crab, and sriracha. The cream cheese adds a great flavor, but isn’t overpowering. For me, one thing that sets them apart is the amount of vegetarian rolls they offer, which I often order. Tha J-Team is a unique combination of tempura green beans, tofu, mushrooms, and a sweet goma-miso sauce drizzled on top. They have an excellent tempura veggie roll, likely one of the best I’ve ever tried, and that’s impressive because I order this roll everywhere I go. And I must mention the Sushi Virgin because it is so exceptional– I’ve never had anything else like it. It’s stuffed with cream cheese, tamago, avocado and sliced lemon. The entire roll is tempura’d, but I often order it without because you can taste the flavors better. Tha Joint is consistently a win for me; the price is competitive, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the rolls are distinctive and tasty. Don’t forget to show your student ID Monday-Friday for a 10% discount!

We decided to try a new sushi place, just for experience. We had heard some great things about Tha Joint from friends, so we went. Overall, I’d say the restaurant was pretty good. I honestly don’t have any MAJOR negatives to share — which is always a positive(see what I did there?). Anyways, we tried several rolls, including Tha Donald Duck(part of the«secret menu»), Tha Frisco, Tha Misfits, Tha Five-O, and a few simple nigiri options. Of all the rolls tasted, I absolutely recommend Tha Five-O. It was the perfect blend of flavor, spice, and texture. The others were good as well, just not mind-blowing. The miso soup was a tad watered-down, but still good. You also get a small tasting of cucumber salad with your ginger and wasabi, which was refreshing. The chefs are extremely fast; we started getting rolls within five to ten minutes of ordering them. Conversely, the wait staff was a bit slow for us; we had to ask for our appetizers twice before getting them, as well as ask to get our drinks refilled. The restaurant ambience was also fine, if a little chilly(at least where we were sitting, which was immediately under the A/C vent). Tha Joint was a good place to go in order to break from routine and try something new. Again, I absolutely recommend Tha Five-O. But as a whole, the place was just«OK». There wasn’t anything terribly bad or amazingly great about it; all in all, the experience was lackluster. Definitely worth a try, though! Happy feasting!

It was a «meh» experience. Maybe it had to do with the dreary weather today, didn’t feel very welcoming or clean in there today. I had a good waitress when I first sat down, but it switched to dinner while I was there. I didn’t get checked in on again for quite some time towards the end of my meal. I followed some advice of MIchael T. and stuck with mostly handrolls today, to get more in… they were all pretty good and standard. Nothing really stood out, but nothing was bad. I had an assortment of the following: OMG rolll(spicy tuna, cucumber, cilantro and salmon with lemon sauce, hot sauce) Five-O(crystal shrimp, cream cheese, cilantro, avocado, spicy crab and spicy sauce) BLC(spicy crab, cucumber, tuna, shrimp, avocado and spicy sauce) Tha Sin City(deep fried with yellowtail, cream cheese, spicy sauce, garlic pepper sauce and spicy crab) My own roll with spicy tuna, ebi and crab. Along with a couple orders of mussels, miso soup and seaweed salad. I couldn’t finish the Tha Sin City, I think it was the garlic pepper sauce, but I just didn’t care for it. The rest were good enough, nothing tasted off except the sin city, I was looking for a godzilla type roll. The rolls were small here, and the mussels were better ones I’ve had especially for being gigantic(I like smaller ones generally) so those are positives, but I really don’t see myself coming back. I would hit up JJ’s if in this area. Seemed just cleaner.

My husband and I were craving some sushi and it was close to our daughters nap time so we decided to go somewhere close so we came here. I ordered tha joint long roll and a soft shell crap hand roll and there was so much rice I almost couldn’t eat anymore sushi. The long roll was cut un-even so bad that I I had a mouthful or sushi then a nibble. Maybe a new chef? The waitress was very nice she was prompt with service and kept bringing us new order sheets. We ordered some of the appetizers and the sushi came out before the appetizers and all the appetizers didn’t even come out. I wanted to feed my daughter the miso soup because she loves soup, but it did not come out, but I didn’t make a big deal about it. Finally we were almost done so I ordered one last nigiri the tobiko with quail egg and they brought me the salmon eggs instead. Yuck! No thank you. This has happened a few times before. Maybe the chef doesn’t know their sushi? She took it back and finly brought me the correct nigiri, but they also brought out 2 quail egg shooters. No thanks to that. I did not order that either. All in all they could be more consistent on the size of their rolls/nigiri. Hiroba is somewhat similar, but atleast hiroba now makes all their sushi fit in your mouth with one bite.
