We got the cheesy fries at the air show, so good! Fresh fries, with great cheese sauce. So decided to get them again. We walked in, only customers there. Took well over 3 minutes for anyone to greet us while 3 women were standing there in the kitchen. Finally ordered, & after 15 minutes of waiting she tells me she’s making more fries because the last ones burnt(no one was paying attention to them) well 30 min later… Yes 30 min for FRIES I get home & they are frozen fries. Half of them were still cold inside. Service was beyond horrible

Unfortunately I have to downgrade my review. I still think the ribs and sauce are good and the service is generally friendly, but I brought my friends here and was very disappointed — it seemed to have gotten a lot worse. The side-dish portions had shrunk, the mac and cheese wasn’t good, and the brisket was dry, tough, and blah. I was embarrassed to have brought them there. If I do go back I’ll stick to the ribs and avoid the brisket.

We need more BBQ in Anchorage. We were not impressed with our first visit during the winter. The person working the window made us wait a long time before taking our order. Server was sort of rude.

Very Neat and Clean with good service and good food. You can go ala carte or get a meal. Carry out was ready in 5 minutes. Pulled Pork, all kinds of BBQ and about 10 different kinds of Hot Dogs will all kinds of Toppings. I’d definitely stop in again for a quick lunch!

Nooooooooooo… Went there and after we ordered the cook LEFT to deliver something. Really? Bbq sauce was OK. Got the brisket and like another reviewer said it was in CHUNKS. 2 in by 2 in chunks. Undercooked and tough. The potato salad was bad… More like mashed potato salad… Spices are off. I do have admit the wings were good. I won’t return… If I do only for the wings.

Ribs tasteless with bland rub, if any. Beans right out of a can. Sauce ok. Mac and cheese not the best, but at least not a box or Velveeta. Cornbread crumbly and so so on taste. It appeared that they steam or boil or pressure cook ribs. Tender, but not naturally.

I don’t know if this was an isolated incident but came here wanting a bit o bbq last Friday and ordered the 2 meat option and chose chicken and ribs with original flavor for $ 12.50. I also ordered the 2 side option and chose cole slaw and baked beans that came with corn bread that was $ 4. The place was really busy and I was at the drive thru so I said I would come back, there was only one cook and he was bustling but it was apparent it would be a bit. I went to the holiday and got a movie and some beer and went back and still had to wait a bit, but that’s life. Brought it all home and the first thing I notice when I pop open the box was how black the food was. Ate a bit of the chicken and it had a really weird charred chemical flavor, the ribs too. I was really disappointed but didn’t want to drive back and ask for a remake. I even tried to remove the skin but the flavor remained on the meat. Most of it was tossed. I did like the barbeque sauce though. The baked beans were okay and the cole slaw too. The butter that came with the corn bread was whipped so that was nice. I don’t think I’ll return.

DELICIOUS! I spent 3 years eating BBQ in Memphis. This place is right on par with Memphis BBQ. My mother first tried their BBQ pulled pork sliders at a catered event. She then insisted we go here for dinner. The staff is friendly; the cook was especially helpful when refilling our sweet teas and answering questions. HUGE portions! There must have been 30 cheese curds in the curd basket. I would go again and again.

On our annual work visit to Anchorage, we thought we’d see how Smokehouse pulls off a little southern BBQ. My colleague from Dallas and I from Tennessee have a pretty good range of excellent regional BBQ to choose from. I also compete on the KCBS circuit — so we may be a little biased… Unfortunately though, while some have said this is the best BBQ in Anchorage, it’s also the worst BBQ I’ve had in a long time. The flavors were favorable. Sauces were unique, homemade and pretty good. A little sweet and a little spicy. The smokering on the meat looked promising. We ordered the brisket and the tri-tip. The brisket was served in 2″ squares. I’ve never seen that before. Brisket should be sliced. Every once in a while, someone will get confused and pull their brisket like it’s pork, but I’ve never ever seen brisket chunks. The brisket was under cooked, tough, and just not good. It needed more time on the smoker and to be cut against the grain in thin slices. It wasn’t and therefor, hardly resembled bbq. The tri-tip is a favorite cut of mine. It should be cooked for about 2.5 hours until about medium. Theirs was overcooked, sliced like brisket should be, and tough from over cooking. Flavors were good, but tough meat is just a no go. Sides were passable. Nothing to complain or exclaim. The place was clean and the atmosphere nice, if a little kitschy — just like a BBQ spot should be. I’d love to come back next year and see that they’ve figured out cook times.

Ribs were pretty good though the beans and slaw were average at best. Plus the food wasn’t served hot. A little more time in the microwave would have helped on the beans though they really need to find a recipe that differentiates from opening a cheap #10 can and serving those as a side. Ordered a side of fried okra but the staff said they were frozen into a lump so they didn’t serve them. Instead, had an order of corn fritters with honey butter — THEYWEREAMAZING. The coleslaw was mostly mayo. Servers were super nice. We went with a group of six people and there was only one large table with chairs. The rest of the group tables were little picnic bench types and were pretty difficult to get our legs in and out of(and we’re all bike riders and runners). Brisket had good flavor and the spicy barbeque was great. Not sure how long this place will stay in business with room temperature food(other than the corn fritters). Has potential but needs some culinary guidance. Hope they get it…

I lived in Texas for 7 years and am picky about brisket. Smokehouses is tender, juicy, flavorful, has a good bark on it, and a nice smoke ring inside. Best brisket in Anchorage city limits. Additionally, the pulled pork was good(nice bark, juicy, tender) and I enjoyed the homemade spicy BBQ sauce.

Everything was huge and delicious. Except for the vegetarian beans, they could have used some flavor. I highly recommend the cowboy potato, spenard dog, potato salad, sweet baked beans, and turkey leg. Service was friendly, and the restaurant was clean and festive.

There are no good BBQ places in Anchorage until this place. Pulled pork is good. Fried okra is not bad. However, $ 3 for a small glass of tea is too expensive. They have smoked turkey legs that are usually great. The beans and potato salad are good as well. I will say the brisket isn’t what I’d call brisket. Its more like they smoked a beef roast. Finally get to have their BBQ on this side of town without too much of a drive.
