DONOTEATHERE. I’m sad. I’m hurt and confused. I searched online for some good Chinese food and came across this place as it was«still open»(8:30pm…yeah I know). All I wanted after a long trip to Spokane was some food to provide nourishment for me and my family. What I was given was appalling. As I called to order, I was met with a very loud lady on the other side of the line. She adamantly told me they were closed. How could this be? It clearly showed as being open — whatever. Then she said that if I can get there in 5 mins then we should be good — cool, let’s go! When I got there the lady proceeded to remind me that they were closing and I asked how? When it clearly said on Unilocal and the front door of the establishment as being closed at 11pm — again, whatever. My food came out and I was pretty stoked. As I got to my hotel, I proceeded to open the containers and was met with the most horrible and disgusting looking food I’ve ever seen — cmon, it’s Chinese food. How could u ruin Chinese food? Well. I got the answer. Let me paint a picture for you — It was full to the brim and everything was pretty much mixed together. The chow mein was veggies and sauce which channeled a 3rd-day-after-coming-down-with the flu snot consistency was poured over dried brown looking«noodles» — the kind that you often see on salads as garnish. The food was lukewarm and looked crazy. Yeah, crazy. I’m done with this review because I’m about to vomit as I’m describing it. Do yourself a favor and go to a 7 – 11 or something. You’ll get better quality food. PS. They got one star because I had to pick one. Cheers!

I love this place. This is, for me, the best Chinese food anywhere. I go to San Francisco on a fairly frequent basis and always make a point to hit a few Chinatown restaurants while I’m there, and have never found a place that measures up to Kaylon for sheer deliciousness. Same goes for Los Angeles and DC. Those big-city Chinese restaurants might be more«authentic,» maybe, but they don’t match the richness of flavors, wonderful spices in the Szechuan dishes, and simple quality of ingredients that Kaylon Garden offers. Their hot and sour soup is, by a long shot, the best I’ve had anywhere. First of all, unlike 98% of the others I’ve tried elsewhere, it lives up to its name: it is in fact both hot and sour, in a wonderful way. And it isn’t just a mush of tofu and bamboo shoots like most versions I’ve tried, but a wonderful stew of various mushrooms(black, shitake, tree ear, …), Asian veggies, and yes some tofu as well. Totally, addictively delicious, and the standard by which I judge all other hot and sour soups. Their Szechuan dishes, such as chicken in hot spicy bean sauce or hot spicy shredded beef, are amazingly, expertly flavorful, and, unlike so many other«Szechuan» offerings in other restaurants, are something far beyond just an excuse for sinus-clearing spiciness. Mongolian beef and Korean Bul Go Gie(served on a sizzling iron plate) are top-notch, again better than I’ve had anywhere else. Their sweet and sour is also wonderful. The sauce is not that ubiquitous red syrup out of a jar that most Chinese places use. Kaylon’s is a wonderful house-made golden brown sauce, wonderfully balanced between sweet and sour. Even simple Chinese-American dishes like chow mein are exceptionally tasty. If you’re in Spokane, don’t bother with P.F. Chang or other chains. Pass up the gloss and pretension and instead go get yourself some memorably delicious Chinese food at Kaylon.

Very disappointed with my experience. Went during the week and saw that they were opened until 11 but was told that they would be closing at 9 due to no one but me and my dad in the restaurant. From the moment we sat down we were rushed right away to order. After we ordered, we were asked to pay right away so that they could close the till. The food was delicious but I don’t see us going back there again.

This is the best Chinese food in Spokane, bar none. I Love this place and judge all other Chinese food by its merits. The food comes out quick and is delicious.

So, I live in the Spokane Valley and Kaylon Gardens is a bit of a drive, on the North side of Spokane. We pass by many many Chinese restaurants to get there, but it is the only Chinese we eat. The same owners have another restaurant closer to us, but it is not as good. I admit, this restaurant is a bit rundown and not the prettiest one, but their food is the best and the prices are amazing. I have taken several people there for lunch, and every single person, without exception, now says this is now their favorite Chinese restaurant. Where can you get such an incredible about of food for about $ 6-$ 7? I always have a take home box, altho my husband does nearly always finish his entire plate-don’t know how! Some places may have better one this or another, but this is all so good. Had one dish there did not care for, but it was just the dish, not the quality. Highly recommend. Darn, I want to go eat some just writing this! Plus, my neighbor who does bug and pest control for Senske, says they are one of the cleanest.

WORST. CHINESE. FOOD. EVER. It carries a typical Chinese restaurant look and friendly waitress. The chow main is not chow mein– it’s a mix of cheap veges slopped on top of deep fried noodles. Fried rice is not fried– its just mixed with bits of egg and old meat. The almond chicken is doughy and gross. What an insult to food. My fiancée and I left heaping plates of food when we left the restaurant.

I can’t help but love this place. It’s so much more than food to me. It’s a part of my youth, my coming of age and now my children’s lives. It’s part of my story. «Yeah… we went to that concert then went to Kay Lon for a big ol’ plate of almond chicken…» — that’s right… the good kind… with the brown gravy and almond dust sprinkled on top. The waitstaff is always very friendly and attentive. I mean. how much attention do you need other than keeping your glasses filled. Just put your head down and go to town on the generous portions they serve up. It’s classic Americanized Chinese food. I remember what it looked like before the 80’s remodel, so for those of you complaining that it’s tired and out-dated… give them a break. It gets expensive providing restaurant snobs surroundings that make them feel better about patronizing a place. Get it to-go, and eat it in your BMW… how ’bout that.

I went there all the time as a kid and a young adult– mostly because my dad was such a huge fan(inexpensive, decent sized portions… and great for a family on a budget). As an adult: I don’t like this place. I went back a year ago and it was how I remembered it: cheap, bad lighting, and just everything just feels«boring.» Bland food, boring décor, boring everything. I will give it to the staff: they’re nice. And it is a great place to go if you want a ton of food for paying practically nothing. But it is 2011 and this place has not had an update to the menu or interior in 20+ years. An increase of 50 cents on all items won’t kill their customer base but would provide a much needed interior design update with more soothing lighting.

this is the chinese of my childhood. the kind of place that is disappearing across america. the kind of place where you can still get the heavily breaded sweet and sour chicken, egg noodle soup, egg rolls, crunchy chow mein with way too much celery, and all the tea you can drink… all for about $ 6.
