Local Artist Co-op. Fun place to find locally made treasures. The artists themselves staff the store. I enjoy chatting them up when I’m in so I find out about what they have made and the story behind it. It is pretty rare to get such a cool window into the artist process!

I have never left this artist co-op empty handed. Ever. A trip to Auntie’s Bookstore inevitably leads us in here and that’s never a bad thing. If you ever get stumped or uninspired with your holiday shopping I highly recommend perusing their selection of drawings and paintings, candles, jewelry, blown glass floats, wood work, and of course, the pottery. We have found many one of a kind gifts here. For the beautiful wares they produce, the prices are extremely affordable. They always have work from their standard people, but there’s also always something new and interesting to discover. My favorite part is when you make a purchase they record which artist it went to. I feel much more connected to the source of my new treasure. I like to think it brightens the artist’s day when they make a sale because a trip here usually makes my day a whole lot brighter too.

Located in the historic Liberty Building in Spokane, Washington, Pottery Place Plus was founded in 1978 by a group of industrious potters looking for a way to market their pottery. Over time, the shop has evolved into an outlet for many different types of fine craft work, including metal, fibre, jewelry, candles, glass, and more. Since the shop is a cooperative and owned and operated by the artists, it has a very egalitarian feel to it. The beauty and creativity evident here at PPP is astounding. Even better: each month the Pottery Place Plus hosts various new guest artists. It is a great way to check out what some up-and-coming artisans are doing. A reception for the artists are on the First Friday of each month from 5pm to 9pm. This totally reminded me of the Lux Art Institute here in Encintas, CA. I was just wandering around the Riverfront Park area and happened to come upon Pottery Place Plus. I was fascinated to find out it is the oldest Cooperative of Potters & Craftspeople on the West Coast! Right next to Auntie’s Bookstore, Pottery Place Plus is not to be missed. Prepare yourself to be charmed by all the wonderful and exceptional things they sell. The hand-crafted candles are divine and the jewelry is magnificent. PPP has a lot to offer and even though pottery still rules the roost here, there is so much more. 5 UnilocalSTARSALLTHEWAY!
