Hard to decide if I love this place or like this place just because it’s near by… It’s certainly not the best Greek food, but the drinks are stiff. The Mexican food isn’t bad, but since the drinks are stiff… I guess at least the drinks are stiff.

Heard about this place and decided to check out since I am Greek and my husband is Mexican. Went on a Friday night. Wasn’t very busy at all. We ordered our food and waited for nearly 1 hour. Only Greek Salad arrived in that hour and was very disappointing. Not authentic at all. We got up to leave to pay for salad before food ever arrived, and someone(I believe was the owner) apologized and said no charge for salad in hopes we would return one day. Waitress brought back credit card with no apologies for the wait. Appreciate the no charge on salad, but unfortunately we will not return.

Victor C is writing bad reviews because his chick walked out on a shift. His opinion is based only on anger and her version of things that happened there. Expired food? Makes a lot of sense. Heavyset blonde? That’s me, I’m gigantic 5’5145lbs. Way to internet bully Victor.

In short, the new owner ruined the place. My boyfriend and I and his family have been going to the Greek Sombrero for years and this was a local favorite. We visited the place tonight and to our disappointment we were not satisfied. The amazing garlic carrots are no longer being served, they got rid of the grape leaves and some of our food was undercooked. Our waitress was amazing, but the new management, not so much. I seriously wonder how long this place is going to stay open. So sad.

Ahh, so sad to have a great restaurant succumb to a transfer of ownership. I’ve been a regular and loyal customer since 1989. Considering the«Greek» quintessential when it came to mexican food. Upon returning from trips outside San Diego I’d always stop in to visit, Pete would welcome me as he would the other customers with a handshake and a friendly smile. Then came the authentic flavors that my taste buds had craved, Pete’s Greek Sombrero never disappointed. With the recent sale the«New Owner«whom I’ve yet to meet has made some obvious notable changes. Gone are the cherished garlic carrots and the hand cut, home made, on site tortilla chips. The tortilla soup has a different taste along with the chicken stuffing used in the enchiladas. My favorite tacos have lost their familiar«crunch» also. Recently I overheard other regulars quizzing the waitress about recent changes. I will most likely return and I hope that the new guy can find the love that Pete and his family had built into their trade/land mark restaurant, this I will truly miss.

So, stopping here is a must if you are in Jamul and need some good food.(There aren’t many other choices!) Any place where I can get chips & salsa, tortilla soup, gyros, and fried ice cream is a winner in my book, but these guys do it well. They have both Greek and Mexican foods and even try to combine the two.(Try a gyro taco!) They also have a full bar and some great beer on tap. I learned that as of 2 days ago it is under new management and they won’t have the complimentary garlic carrots anymore! That is worth knocking off a star off right there. I hear that they won’t be changing too much, but maybe adding a few new things to the menu. The new owners have some big shoes to fill and I will have to stop back in to see how they try to improve upon this gem.

We went there last night and ordered the dolmades, carne asada burrito, and the gyro taco. Let me first start off with the precursor that I previously hated lamb. The gyro taco was seriously delicious. The meat was marinated and cooked very well. It could have used a better tortilla to compliment the rest of the taco, but still very good. The best thing that we ordered though was the dolmades. Wow. They were zesty and very tasty. The carne asada burrito was good. We both had never had ouzo before, let me tell you, I understand why the Greeks love this stuff. In all, it was a great experience and definitely looking forward to coming back. I wanted to give it a five but the bf said three, so we settled on a four.

This place must be doing something right because they are always packed on the weekends. But, I was not impressed. Came here on a week night when it was dead. There was maybe one person sitting at the bar and then my family. Only one waitress was there and she was left something to be desired. Very slow and not attentive at all. With us being the only people there getting food(there were 4 of us total) you would think we would get it lightning fast. That did not happen. Seemed like it took forever to get it. Food was meh. Not as exciting as I would think from a Greek and Mexican place. Pretty much just had all your basic food. We all ended up just getting hamburgers.

I grew up coming to this place as a child. And after all these years the place still manages to deliver food wise in a big way! Try the Greek sampler plate. The dolmades can’t be beat anywhere, simply fantastic. The Greek chicken is really good. The garlic carrots and chips and salsa are addictive. Watch your breath though after eating them because you can kill mosquitos. It’s worth a drive, but not a journey to get to. Happy eating!!!

I think this was the 4th time I’ve had Greek food here. So good, every time! Also the ribs were melt-in-your-mouth. They have a big dining room that’s all sunny and open that I didn’t know was there which is pretty cool. If anyone decides to have an event catered here with buffet Greek and Mexican, please invite me.

I love the Chili Verde at The Greek and their carrots are the best! My husband always get the Enchilada Acapulco. The salads are also wonderful. They serve big portions and I always enjoy the leftovers for the lunch the next day. I’m not that keen on the Greek food, however. I stick to the Mexican. The Mexican food is just so flavorful. There’s no hostess or greeter. You just go in and sit wherever you want. In that respect, it’s pretty laid back. Sometimes it takes a little while to get the service started, but then it goes great. Give it a try! One of favorite places to eat!

LOVELOVELOVE !!! went last night and had mexican food with a greek salad! AWESOME. shots of oozo and fried ice cream. everything was AMAZING!!! Pete Saradocus is Greek and his wife Alex is Hispanic thus the combination Greek/Sombrero. Super chill place, Pete is there greeting everyone and knows everyone by name. it is truly like going home for dinner. This restaurant has been in business for 25 years with the same family. if you have a chance, stop by you won’t be disappointed :)

Two words, gyro tacos! I crave these bad boys and have to head to Jamul every few months to get them. I first heard of the Greek several years ago for the Thursday night parties and after developing a friendship with Pete the owner I have kept going for years after the party ended. It’s harder now that I have moved out of SD but I still make the journey just to get them gyro tacos. The fact that he has the coldest beer in town helps too!

I’ve been a customer of GS for what has to be 15 – 20 years and have always had an enjoyable meal experience. The owner is the nicest guy and greets everyone like you are a guest in his home. It is obvious that he has an established clientele of regulars as he is continually hugging customers as they come in the door. Last night we went there and they fell VERY short of the experience we usually enjoy. After about a 10 minute wait my wife and I were seated right at 7PM. After the usual amount of time we placed our orders. We had to pick up our Chinese exchange student at the trolley in El Cajon at 8PM, so we felt we should be able to get out in 50 minutes. Well at 7:40 our meal still had not arrived, so we asked the very apologetic server to make the balance of our meal to-go. When we did get home, the food was TERRIBLE, reminiscent of something that had been sitting in the all-you-can-eat Greek buffet all afternoon. The meat was dry, shriveled and tasteless(I had the Greek Sampler), and the spanakopita was like a big, wet green sponge and equally unappealing. The portions were very small(also unusual for GS) and as hungry as we were, we pitched it. It appeared they had a function of some sort going on in the back patio, and they were obviously overwhelmed. Too bad, as this place is usually a can’t miss, but this time it was a waste of an evening out with my wife and $ 40.

I had a good Greek salad and some grilled chicken for this place. Greek Sombrero is a Greek and Mexican restaurant combination. The place is located right off the 94 heading up to Jamul. Since I only ate Greek food, I will focus on it more. However, they did serve me some chips and salsa when I sat down.( ) The chips were homemade and they were very good. The salsa was descent and had a nice spice to it. The chips were also served with some hot carrots in a garlic emulsion that was okay. The large Greek salad cost $ 9 and some change. I added some grilled chicken for $ 2.59. The Greek salad was good. It was full of greens and dotted with fresh sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives. The feta was very good and had a nice salty taste that help enhance the flavor of the olive oil in the dressing. The salad also had a nice sprinkle of dried oregano.( ) The grilled chicken was not chicken breast, but chicken thighs. I did not mind that because the thighs stayed nice and tender and moist. The chicken was well seasoned and came on a separate plate, not on the salad.( ) The salad also came with a side of sliced pita bread. The pita was okay, nothing special. The service was nice and the place was clean. The place looks more like a bar and grill with very simple furniture and fixtures.
