Came by here on a slow Monday. It was my first time eating Cuban food and I’m glad that I did. Staff was extremely friendly and everything came out hot af. You gotta ask for the 4 different sauces(all of them were killer) they even had a guy there sketching caricature portraits of the customers.

They have the real Venezuelan-like cheese and I love it. Love their tequenos and the Lomo Asado was superb! I’m so happy for having this place close to my home. I’m going back very soon to try the Patacon(that a friend told me is awesome)! The service was ok. They can certainly do better in that sense because we, Venezuelans are warm people and we like to treat everyone as they are old buddies. So, let’s put that Venezuelan«charm» to work. Your food is so delicious, you are doing great guys!

Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The owner is a hoot. Very VERY friendly. My wife and I definitely will be returning for sure. More than enough items on the menu to try something different each time we come back.

I came here after finding it on Unilocal and seeing the unheard-of-before plantain sandwich. Delicious meat tucked in between double fried plantains? The pictures looked just as good as it sounded. I stopped in for lunch and it was fairly quiet. I admit I was not greeted very happily, and service was spotty in the front, but I could tell this was one of those small family-run-kind of places. Made my order of the plantain sandwich and wanted to try their espresso. As I sat and waited, noticed the tables were clean and they had a tv and wifi that made the wait enjoyable. Pictures on the wall of people who have visited. Nice, local touch. I got brought the sandwich with silverware and my espresso with a basket of condiments. Like table side service you’d expect in a fancier place! Oh man, was that plantain sandwich delicious! Full of so much meat too! Messy but so good! The sweet crunchy plantain«bun» complimented the juicy savory melt-in-your mouth meat. The espresso was kind of like halfway between coffee and espresso in both size and flavor. It was good such that I didn’t need sugar or milk. If I was back in the area I’d totally love to try this dish again and other dishes on the menu!

Good arepas, especially the ropa. Hub had some really good empanadas as well. The folks running the place are very nice and very much want to be sure you are enjoying your meal. When in the area, we’ll likely stop by again.

Food is good but service needs improving. If you are not a native of the owner, he looked at you as if you are stupid. The 3 stars is fir their food.

First time here, got a fajita beef & chicken chipotle arepas. Both were excellent, and the various sauces complemented them well. The food was fresh and HOT, I swear I burned a finger holding one of my arepas. Friend got the Roast Pork & Cheddar Cheese arepa, and the Cachapas Queso de Mano. The second thing was awesome, it’s like a cornmeal panckage with a soft fresh cheese that is folded over with more cheese sprinkled on top. It’s sweet and savory at the same time. Kind of hard to tell if it’s a meal or if it’s a dessert. Meal was very filling, I don’t know if I could have ate 3 arepas without overdoing it. The price seems a little high for what you get(they have even raised prices compared to what their menu says), but it is very fresh and something different. Probably won’t go here much but at least I can say I tried the place.

This place has a really cute vibe. I was really looking forward to my meal after reading through their delicious menu. We ordered and sat down at one of the tables to wait. At the time there were only 2 other people in the entire place. It took roughly 45 min for our sandwiches to come out. Wow. I mean, that’s a long time especially when the place is practically empty. My sandwich was delicious but really small. Wish I would have known how small it was because I would’ve ordered two.

Escelente lugar para comer comida venezolana, el sabor es cacero con la sazón típica, la nueva administración es un éxito ya que te atienden directamente! Definitivamente un lugar para volver a venir hasta haber probado todo el menú. / Great place to eat Venezuelan food, the taste is like a real home-made with the typical seasoning, the new administration is a success because they server directly! Definitely a place to come back to try everything on the menu.

I’ve eaten many empanadas and arepas in my time. This place does both extremely well. The sauces are extremely delicious, and the plain mozzarella empanadas are heavenly. The service could use some overhaul in friendliness, especially with the slight language barrier, but don’t let that dissuade you from this hidden gem.

This place rocks, food is authentic Venezuelan fresh made food. Quality ingredients and high quality food, I have had arepas, cachitos, tequeños, sancocho, empanadas, etc and all should get a 5 start review. The only reason I give it a 4 is because is really out of the way, and is a drive to go get your favorite Venezuelan treats. They could also improve a little on the environment as they have some times kids roller skating in the restaurant… so probably is more set up for pick up and go, but the food is better if you eat right there. As most Venezuelan food is intended to be eaten freshly made, otherwise it loses that perfect texture that has to be present to really enjoy it. If you have never tried Venezuelan food, and want to, this is the place. I have tried many in Houston and none have been up to real one, but this. I can assure you you will love their food!

I’ve been coming here for a few years, I don’t always like the«customer service» but the food is so good!!! Tonight I ordered a patacon and empanada, made perfectly. It’s the reason I keep returning. The arepas are really good too but patacon has to be my favorite.

This is the real deal! From Malta Polar to queso de mano, this is an arepera! I am from Venezuela, and these guys have it right. The patacones were delicious, the arepa de pernil was scrumptious! Tender and with the pernil sauce. The queso de mano arepa brought me back home. If you are in North Houston, you must stop here.

Being Venezuelan, I love this place! I go there often. I agree with other reviews that it isn’t neither cheap nor fast, however, it’s well worth it. My favorite dish is the patacon with queso de mano, the domino empanadas being a close second. Make sure you try the sauces that are on the table; they’re delicious! Also, don’t leave without drinking a papelón con limon.

I would love to say that I tried their authentic Venezuelan food. Unfortunately when my fiancé and I went there one Sunday afternoon there seemed to be some sort of confusion as to what we were doing at the front of the restaurant. We couldn’t tell if there was some sort of private party, or if that was just a big group. Either way we stood at the front of the store with no employees to help us. When someone finally came out they didn’t seem to know what to do with us. So I asked them if they were open and they said yes but by then our first impression was ruined and we decided to leave. The music was too loud and we didn’t want to waste our time or theirs.

They would have received 5 stars if customer service was more. Not rude, just not up to the standards of most. Anyway, food is top notch! Worth the visit!

I have been trying to stop and try this place for quite some time, so me and my family were driving by and we made arepa express our choice for the night it was this or JAX. First let me say that I have had my fair share of scrumptious arepas and let me say that it was truly disappointing that this place did not live to my expectations, the meat was tough, and the dough was mushy inside and a bit too thick for my taste. One more thing, as we were trying to order while being unsure about our meal choices since it was our first time, our order taker seem to be annoyed by us for not ordering fast. After consulting with my other half, I don’t think that Arepa express will be getting our economic vote.

I guess i came at the wrong time… Horrible service thus far. Ignored when I walked in. Rude owner. I wanted to grab a bite before The Rockets game and Unilocal guided me here with its practically perfect rating. Food was pretty good but Very disappointing first time visit. Maybe I’ll try again in a few months.

My husband and I stopped by on our way home from work hoping to get some soup to help beat a terrible cold I’ve been battling. I was crushed when the owner(I’m assuming) informed me they only have soup on Sunday(wahhhh!) We ordered a few things to take home and waited about 20 minutes(Xpress, it is not). Although, I don’t mind waiting when I know my food is being made specifically for me and will be piping hot upon consumption(which it was — after two daycare pickups and the ride home.) While I have no other experience to base it on — the food was great. We had a few orders of cheese sticks(these are teeny tiny — not your typical American portion for sure) four Arepas(shredded beef, beef fajita x 2 and shredded chicken) and an order of plantains. All of the Arepas were fresh and flavorful — shredded beef being my favorite. I wasn’t sure what to expect of the plantains but to me seemed limp and soggy. I had 1 bite and tried to give the rest to my kids(they were not having it!) All in all, great flavorful food. Downside? The people working there were not very friendly and seemed to be perturbed that they had to get up from watching the TV when we walked in. Chalk it up to a bad day?
