Bike Barn

Disclaimer: I’m putting this on Unilocal! I was very skeptical on visiting Bike Barn store after my horrible encounter with the Bike Barn Katy Store. John in the Katy store made me feel like my money wasn’t good enough for the more expensive bikes, and his questions/​suggestions were just horrible. After some research, I come to find out Specialized was only sold to authorized retailers, meaning Bike Barn was one of the «big boys» in town that sold the bike that I most desired.
I felt very anxious, and not in the good way, on visiting another Bike Barn store. For some reason I chose the Cypresswood location (still far from my House), and met Mr. David. First off, wow! This guy is extremely generous, courteous, patient, and extremely attentive to his customers. Not once did I sense arrogance or displeasure of him. He was an amazing person, and he took his time in showing other options and alternatives. Obviously, his goal is to sell for the store, but when I advised him of my previous encounter, and that «I’m just here to ask questions», he completely respected me. He took so much time in making sure everything I wanted in a bike was fulfilled and available. He was such a pleasure to do business with that even though I didn’t go into the store with the intent on purchasing a bike, I ended up making my first road bike purchase… UNDER ABSOLUTELY NO PRESSURE from David! He made me feel that comfortable, and listed so many options for me, that when it came down to making a final decision of my purchase… it gave me a sense of liberty and happiness to know that I’m buying the bike that I want versus feeling suckered in by a typical salesman. My experience was extraordinary!
Mr. David was awesome to me, and I will forever be a customer of his on all my future purchases. I’d rather drive an hour out of my way to go see him, than to go to any other Bike Barn.
Please ensure that Mr. David is recognized, because of him, I’m now referring all of my colleagues, students, friends, and family to visit the Cypresswood location versus the Katy location (which is down the street).

Okay, I’ll have to admit, we didn’t buy a bike here. And I actually didn’t go into Bike Barn. But I told my husband he needed to get there pronto. What a lifesaver.
Short story: we bought our grandson a little 12″ bike on Amazon. Cute little thing, but it did need some assembly. Surely with both of us holding college degrees and having assembled a myriad of other children’s playthings before, we figured this would be a snap.
Not so easy. «Place the handlebar stem into the top of the steer tube which is the top end of the fork that has been inserted into the head tube. .. «– but nothing fits! At least not for US.
After a few spews of dialog that were not quite child-​friendly, hubby suggests going to Bike Barn for help. I eagerly chime in – «Yeah — go NOW!» I want it over and done with.
In about 20 minutes, he was gone and back home — bike assembled. No charge. Very nice and accommodating.
THAT is what I call customer service from a local shop. We will be back, and next time, we WILL be buying our grandson his next bike here.

This morning I needed some repair on my bike and this is the second time I’ve been here, both times the customer service was excellent. The people are friendly and very helpful.

Reading reviews on Unilocal,it becomes apparent which businesses are customer oriented desiring to improve shortcomings, and which are not. By the lack of replies from the reviewed company. Bike Barn does not bother with replying to any reviews, and that goes hand in hand with my experience.
I had a really long review typed out, but it can be condensed into…3 trips to the store, a «major» tuneup, and the rear tire being the culprit but never looked at until the third visit? Good grief!
All is well with the bike now and the repairs seem to have worked, but I believe I am done buying and shopping at this particular store. There are too many good bike stores in Houston that will work hard for my business.

I used the service dept. to repair a bad tube in a Schwinn Centennial Black Phantom wheel which was done promptly and priced appropriately.
Approximately a week later I had a need to ship a vintage 1970 restored Schwinn Varsity bike to Huntington Beach, California. I checked with them and found they had a service to disassemble and box the bike for shipment. Their policy was for me to make the arrangement with Fed Ex for shipping. When I arrived with the bike in a Van, I backed up to the entrance door and a employee arrived before I could get out of the car and carried it into the store! Larry in the repair department did a nice job in packing the box. Because of my first time attempting to work with Fed Ex and me not scheduling properly, the store employee, Emily, helped me sort out the situation and get the box on the way. All prices for their services were fair and compatible with prices here in Huntington Beach, CA. Now, I’m hoping, that Fed Ex will be gentle and deliver an undamaged bike!

Went to 5 other bike shops before finally going here. This should have been our first stop. We finally found a great selection with very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable sales associates. We will only use this bike shop!!! Special thanks to David who just had shoulder surgery and still helped by getting us multiple bikes to ride and try. He was very patient and kind.

I really wish Bike Barn was better. I’ve starting biking again in the past year and I bought three bikes from this Bike Barn (two for me, one for my wife). When my bikes are working well, they are lots of fun. But the key here is when they are «working well». I’ve had to take my bikes (one a Trek, other a Specialized) in for servicing numerous times, and usually for the same problems. It seems like these bikes are not durable and/​or the fixes are not «long term». However everything has been expensive… bikes and repairs. I have experienced that «don’t care» attitude from the employees. I get a sense they are just there to fund their own biking obsessions.
I do give them a 2^nd star for supporting the off-​road bike trails in Collins Park. When I over-​pay for questionable service, I justify it by thinking I am also paying for the trails.

Total jackasses! I m new to biking, other than child hood! They were not any help. Does anyone have a recommendation

Do NOT get your bike serviced here! Very condescending service guy told me over and over how terrific he was with over 20 years of experience fixing bikes. All I wanted was a flat tire fixed. He assured me everything was fixed, and I stupidly took his word for it. (Didn’t check the tire) Carried the bike back home in my car, and by the time I drove home the tire had completely deflated! Checked it out and realized the ENTIRE INNER TUBE WAS MISSING! The service guy had removed the punctured inner tube and not inserted a new one. He just pumped the outer tire full of air and called it fixed. Either he was a complete idiot by «forgetting» the new tube THAT I PAID FOR (!) or he wanted to show me who was in control. I was completely patient, kind, and polite while I was there; there was no reason for him to treat me like that. Was it because I am a middle-​aged woman and not a buff bike guy? I don’t know. How in the world this place keeps customers, I have no idea. I had a different bike store fix the tire. I wasn’t about to come back to Bike Barn and have this guy touch my bike again.

This place is a rip off… especially their service department. The department seems to be managed by a very rude, condescending bearded guy who thinks he is all that. Sir-​you are nothing but an ignorant, slimmy con artist! I am glad you showed your true colors within the first five minutes of conversing with you.
That was all the time I needed to decide to make an exit for the door and drive 45 minutes to Fletcher Studio Bike to get both my bikes serviced there instead. Kevin at Fletcher is nice, professional and very knowledgeable and charge fair prices. Bike Barn charges an an arm-​and-​two legs just to service your bike and justifies it with a bunch of bogus excuses. If you don’t believe me go see for yourself and «play dumb» just see what prices and excuses they will give you.
If you have money to burn and don’t mind taken for an idiot and a fool, go here. If you are looking for decent bike people go elsewhere.
The Bike Barn sales people are nice but you should expect that from someone who’s trying to get you to buy their overpriced bikes.

David was super helpful with my bike purchase and all the staff continues to be awesome when I come in with questions or need new gear. I like that they keep track of your purchases and email you the reciept!

They have a great selection of bikes & accesories. Went in to buy a seat for my bike & was waited on very quickly but the young guy waiting on me was rude & not very friendly. Rubbed me the wrong way when I decided to not buy the seat & walked out but still said thank you & was not even acknowledged.

I was in this shop yesterday looking for a comfort, cruiser, or bike-​path/​urban bike for fun and exercise. I was immediately greeted by a friendly staff member who asked me what I was looking for and gave me excellent answers and was able to point me to examples of the products he thought I’d be interested in. I’ll admit that the shop is a bit higher end than I’m probably going to buy from, but I really appreciated the friendlisness and quality info. As I haven’t owned a bike in many years, I’m more likely to start back on a Schwinn than a Trek or Electra. While they’re selection is limited, he assured me they could get me what I wanted. If I had the extra $$ to spend, I’d gladly spend them here! As I was checking out a bike or two on the sidewalk out front on my way back to my car, the guy who’d helped me came out and apologized for forgetting to show me one of the bikes out there and gave me some more info. It is a nice, quiet and clean location not far off the beaten path if you’re in NW Houston.

I went into this Bike Barn for the first time on Saturday. I am a beginner and will be riding in my first MS:150 in a few weeks so I needed my bike inspected.
They got to me right away and I didnt have to wait at all. The guy inspecting my bike was a little rude at first, but ended up doing a lot of maintence on my bike at no cost and gave me some good tips for my upcoming ride.
The only negative thing i noticed is everything is fairly pricy. Sun and Ski has much better deals from what I could tell!
Overall it was a good expierence!
