Neal’s Restaurants

I should have read Unilocal before I came here. We went on a Friday night and it was dead. No hostess so we walked into the bar area and ordered our food to go. I ordered the chicken fried steak with Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was horrible, I actually spit it out. The rolls that they have were horrible tasting, how do you mess up rolls?

Twenty minutes of my lunch hour wasted setting at a table looking at a menu only to walk out …

I’ve been here a couple times out of convenience, but I have found that I can go elsewhere and enjoy the food much more. I won’t say the food is bad, though it’s certainly not good.

I think the food was wonderful and fresh with the right amount of seasonings. I can’t understand the overall 3 stars review and let me tell you I’m a very picky customer. I will eat here again if in the area.

Decent food. Mac n cheese taste like boxes kind. Steak tips n gravy were very salty. Black eye beans dry with ok flavor.
Service ok and place is clean. I’ve been here several times. Food always decent.
My teenage daughter got a burger. It looked good and she loved it.

If corn is the best tasting item on your menu, there’s a problem. If you like frozen food poorly reheated, this place might be up your alley!

Service was friendly. Even though she was only waitress she made sure we wanted for nothing. The sweet tea is perfection just right not to sweet. We both got the chicken fried steak LG. We both have another meal for later. It was cooked perfect. I would recommend this restaurant ro anyone.

This place has taken a bad turn in the last 6 months. Wait staff looks different and the dining room. only had 4 tables with people being served on a Saturday nite. Portions are way smaller since they changed their menu. Where is all the corn bread and rolls they use to hand out while you waited for your food to come out. We need a restaurant like this in the area please pick it back up Neal’s

Alright southern home cooking but nowhere near the best. Prices are a little more on the expensive end but portions do match it. Their chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak are pretty big! But those two are probably the best things on the menu so I would stick to those. The waitresses aren’t that friendly and the service is slow. Apparently, burgers aren’t their specialty. I came here with my boyfriend one time and his burger was really burned and it didn’t taste good at all. Other reviews will tell you sometimes they under cook the burgers. Either way, that should be fixed. Overall an okay place. If you can find somewhere else to go, maybe like Mel’s Diner or Cici’s Café in Tomball, you’re better off.

We used to go here quite a bit. We used to go here before they moved to a new place. It was great.
So what happened?
We are still in pursuit of another chicken fried chicken since Stracks closed. No one makes gravy the way they did.
It was dirty. No one is running the front and you can tell. There was dirt in the window sill. The table was wood with a big crater in the table filled with old food. There was something weird looking smeared on the wall. They sat us at a table with 2 pitchers, one water, one tea, right behind my wife’s head. It had no ice, and looked like it had been sitting there a long time.
We heard the bell ring for food being ready. The two wait staff felt the need to finish the story they were telling. Kitchen unhappy, started ringing the bell frantically.
Oh look, it’s our food. The food was ok. It came out hot, and freshly cooked.
We are still looking for a chicken fried chicken cus this wasn’t it.
Please clean and fix the service in front of house. We will never go back without that.

I have been here three times. Once for the BBQ. The BBQ is not their specialty and should not be the purpose of the visit.
The second time I got their chicken fried steak. This was an awesome meal with homemade sides that is highly recommended. My review would have been a 4 – 5 star review until I went back for the third time. I ordered a burger.
The burger was as under-​cooked as can be while getting a quick seer on the out side for color change. The fries on this visit were rubbery and had a burnt oil taste to them. I debated the third star but it sounds like the experience is based on who is in the kitchen (other reviews on Unilocal seem to have a trend of under cooked food). Again, the chicken fried steak is worth the trip but stay clear of anything else on the menu.
(make sure to check the condiments on the table BEFORE applying it to your plate, I don’t think they get enough turnover to keep it fresh)

Terrible food!
We have visited Neals two time in the past month. Never will go back again.
The first time, with a party of four, my son ordered fried shrimp, and they brought him chicken fried steak instead. My wife ordered chicken fried chicken, and was served fried pork.
The second visit, my wife ordered fried catfish, it was undercooked and raw.
We both ordered fried okra, it was burnt to a crisp.
The floors appear as though they have not been cleaned in five years.
We do not complain or send food back. Simply paid our bill along with a tip, and plan to never return.

I’ve seen on other reviews complaints about «sub-​par» service — don’t really know what that’s about.
I only know that the last time we were there it was pretty full and there were only two servers working at the time. Yes, it took longer to get our food, etc.; that was to be expected. However, our waitress still checked on us many times and always refilled our drinks without asking. Service was definitely not «sub-​par».
As for the food, each time it’s been great. Piping hot so I know it’s fresh and hasn’t been sitting there. My husband and I will go back :)

Food was not very fresh, tasted microwaved. Coleslaw was soggy and BBQ was hard as a rock. Service was ok. Too bad, was hoping this place would be a good ol’ country restaurant. Should of took pics but the cobbler was just so soggy and horrible.

This place. has been open for business for 25+ years.
Great food. I absolutely love the Buffalo burgers and desserts.

I am not sure what’s going on with this place but I would never buy another Groupon or go back .
1. Took 40 minutes to finally get our order because she said they had a party they were waiting on. That is no excuse in my book. Restaurants have partys all the time. What I really think happen was she turned in our order and somebody pushed our order aside to cook the orders for the party and simply forgot our order .
2. After all that wait, the waitress comes out after 35 minutes or so to tell us there is no hamburger steak that we had originally ordered. OK, so I don’t understand that either. If they did not have the hamburger steak then why did it take 35 minutes to come tell us there was none and we need to order something else ?
Other than that I have no complaints about my food except we got there at 12:45 and was really hungry before we finally were served .
And we had to actually get up to find out what exactly was going on with the place because as we looked around there were only 5 tables in the dining area that was occupied. Seems to me this restaurants just wants to cater to partys only so I will not be back.

Stopped in for a late breakfast/​early lunch today at Neal’s Restaurant with my Dad, Every experience here is always fantastic. Get the Chicken Fried Steak, it is awesome! Food was hot, tasty and down right delicious. Crystal made us feel right at home and did everything she could to make sure our experience the best. The staff, owners and atmosphere make you feel like you’re family. We’ve been coming to Neal’s ever since he opened the first restaurant down on Rhodes Rd. and the food as well as service just keeps getting better.
They have great catfish! An Awesome BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, The banana pudding is awesome too! Definitely try the Chicken Fried steak though, its fantastic.

Great comfort food fast service prices are just right. Oh ya desserts are really good to. No complaints here.
