Very friendly service and tasty food. I love the trio of warm salsa that comes with the meal. You can try each one to your liking.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at The Tamale Pot. I was shocked to see that they make their tamales with Coconut Oil and yet they’re so delicious! They were stuffed with meat. There wasn’t a lot of sauce inside of them, however they do have several different kinds of salsa. My fav. was the green one and my husband’s was the orange one. My husband also tried a tostada and the pozole. Everything was fresh and full of flavor! If you come here, you absolutely have to try their cucumber limeade! I’ve never had anything like it before and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I can’t wait to come back and try more things on their menu!

We love this place for a quick and reasonably healthy meal. Consistently good for a quick, cheap meal.

Excellent tamales, beef tacos, and quesadillas. I also enjoyed the chips, they are thick tortilla chips. I recommend getting the queso, since they bring salsa with it. A little pricey for the venue, but excellent food. I’ve been spoiled by TexMex but I think this is more authentic style Mexican.

I usually try the food when most of the reviews are positive. Well it was a mistake this time. I got the platter. 2 tacos chicken and steak. The steak was dry and like jerky. Store bought tortilla were not even good. The chicken was a little better and had good flavor. The tostadas were decent. The beans even tasted store bought bargain brand. The tamales were the worst. Less then 1 bite of meat the rest was masa. Who ever is saying this is authentic Mexican food is on something. Yes I have had authentic Mexican food. And no it wasn’t just a tourist spot. This place is a sad attempt of authentic. It could probably be good if they just worked on quality of their food and stop trying to save money by sacrificing quality and quantity. I won’t be back. And I won’t recommend this place.

I feel it maybe be just a tad overpriced but the tamales were ok. I tried four: kale & cheese, spicy bean, poblano, pork. The kale was my favorite.

Fresh, good food. The fried quesadillas were amazing. The tostodas and tamales were also very tasty. Small menu of tamales, tacos and tostadas but a nice, small restaurant. Staff was very nice as well!

Came in for dinner. My wife and I ordered: Cheese and poblano pepper tamale Spicy bean tamale Pineapple tamale Steak taco Off menu: chilaquiles with eggs, onion, queso fresco. For the record, places that make food off menu are great. And when the food is freaking amazing, you wish you could add a 6th Unilocal star. I wish I had a 6th star today. The steak taco and tamales were just as we like them. The beans were perfect. Reading other people’s reviews(the bad ones in particular) confuses me. Perhaps their version of Mexico is Cabo on spring break, or Cancun during a cruise, or Chuy’s. This place however, is the real deal, and you should come here.

AMAZING! We ordered the quesadillas, they were light and fried, the chicken was very well seasoned. We ordered pork tamales which were wonderful! They have a great balance between the masa and meat, wonderfully spiced, not too spicy. We also had the tostadas which I really enjoyed because they weren’t the large mountains of lettuce and falling toppings found at Tex Mex restaurants, they were light and lovely. I also enjoyed all the salsas offered in a range of spiciness! I will definitely return! !

I give this place 5 stars. I love it. The Mexican chili is so good. I get it once a week. Their tostada is excellent. Tamales are really really great. So moist but not mushy. Very flavorful. Everything tastes fresh and not restauranty-meaning too much salt and lard. It tastes homemade. The restaurant is clean. It’s fast. I’ve been there six times and twice the guy or woman at register forgot an item or two, but it doesn’t stop me from going back. They’re really nice and it’s a pleasant experience. I will have them cater a party sooner or later. I hope they’re successful.

Let me start by saying that this place is Amazing! We go here every weekend for our dinner, they are very friendly and down to earth people, something you don’t find to often. The tamales are awesome just enough masa with lots of filling and spiced just right, I grew up on grandmavs tamales and have always tried to find them the same as hers. Never have untill now! I like that they do different specials so everytime you go in you can try something different, this keeps me wanting more. Family owned and glad they are you can taste the love they put in there food, not some big company thats just feeding cattle. lol always see the owner smiling and greeting people,. If you love a more traditional Mexican style street taco, this place is great. Firstly, this place is clean, you can tell they take pride in their business. Secondly, the sauces are exceptional! I can’t say I have a favorite, they are all delish and if you love flavor then I would try all of them. The tomato garlic is very flavorful and not spicy so anyone can enjoy it. So far I’ve had the breakfast tacos, steak, chicken, and shredded beef tacos… all were great. You can taste the authenticity which you don’t find a lot in other eateries around here. My favorite thus far are the steak with onions and cilantro. I haven’t tried the tamales yet. Being a more traditional Mexican style taco place, the tacos are smaller than we’re used to in TX — which is normal. I’m talking like 3 to 4 bites so make sure you get enough to fill you up.

This place is FANTASTIC! after tasting the real thing in places like Guadalajara, Mexico City and other places the Tamale Pot does not disappoint! Have had everything on the menu and the tacos and tostadas are my fav. Everyone knows best part of good street tacos are the sauces and the tamale pot had 5 on my last visits — they just introduced a habanero one that is AMAZING! Also try their cucumber limeade :) I hope this place stays around and my family and I will visitation least twice a week to help support — if it wasn’t 30 min away if probably go every other day — let’s be honest I’d grab at least one meal a day here for sure!

I’m reviewing for my mom :) She says the tamales are really delicious and improved since their opening(they were really dry and tiny) but now they’re regular sized and moist. What she doesn’t like is that they’re so stingy when it comes to side orders or even giving lettuce to go with the tamales… 40 cents more after paying 7 dollars for 3 tamales! The hot sauce they gave on the side doesn’t even fill half the plastic container that you get it in. Not cool but otherwise yummy!

From the beginning! I apologize for writing a book. I walk in and see people sitting down and eating their food. Not a big crowd but, it may be because they just opened. I can see three workers. Come to find out it’s a family ran business. The cook is the owner, her niece is the manager and this guy I was unsure of since he didn’t interact with them as you would with family. There’s no menu for the customers. Instead they have the whole menu up on the wall behind the register. They’re just starting out so disposable cups are there next to the soda machine and a regular tea dispenser. This is Texas. I demand sweet tea everywhere! So I’m looking at the menu and it’s pretty basic. Tamales, tostadas or tacos. They have no rice. I tried the sampler platter which comes with two tostadas, two tacos and two tamales. I gotta tell you, the cheese and chipotle tamales(I think that’s what I had) are super delicious. The tacos and tostadas are great if your taste buds are on vacation. No flavor whatsoever. I’m Hispanic, flavor with Mexican food for me is everything. Maybe my grandma just set my food tasting standards really high but, I’m fair when I say that it was bland. Like eating a salad without any dressing or anything special mixed in it. It comes with red spicy sauce and green nice sauce. Refried beans were what you expect. I was hungry so I ate it all. I hang eaten since 6:30am that day. I work as a subcontractor for cable companies so I’m always on the go. It was close to around 7pm. Maybe my taste buds were dead? I do however, recall that the tacos and tostada meats were cold. Tacos are meant to be hot with lettuce and cheese and tomatoes. Not cold. Same thing with the tostadas. Could be my preference though. I overheard the owner say that everything on the menu is from her own recipes. Points for that but take them away for lack of good old salt and pepper. They are friendly as heck. So when I was leaving, the niece asked if I enjoyed the food. –_– I said I really liked the tamales. Totally true. They blend the kale in with the masa. That’s about the only reason I’d go back though. They’re new, not a chain and family operated.

If you like tamales or tacos, then you will enjoy The Tamale Pot(I do!). It is a casual restaurant specializing in Northern Mexico-style street food: tamales, tostadas, and tacos. The Tamale Pot opened several weeks ago and I’ve been there twice and will be going there several times a week in the future. Since it opened, I have had the following: Mexican chili The review of the Mexican chili technically should have come after the tamales, tacos, and tostadas, since it isn’t a main item on the menu. But – it is really, really good and I will now order it every time I eat at The Tamale Pot. It is similar to American chili except that is more soup like(thinner), not as heavily spiced, and is really yummy. It tastes like the base is chicken stock with ground beef and pinto beans added. I like to mash up a pork or chicken tamale and put it in the chili. It is some good eating! The tamales… There aren’t Tex-Mex tamales that are dripping with grease and covered with a melted cheese/ground beef gravy. They are served with two different types of salsa, tons of shredded lettuce, onions, and tomato slices. The dough is moist, but not overly so. They aren’t overly spicy; they are a tad bland but act like a sponge with the two salsas. Overall, a normal person could eat 3 – 5 tamales for a meal. Savory tamales(in the order that I liked them): 1. Chicken — the best. Simple, well seasoned, and yummy. 2. Spicy beans — my wife’s favorite. Not overly spicy. 3. Pork — Simple and good. Has a little kick. 4. Kale and cheese — The kale is cut up and mixed with the melted cheese. 5. Cheese with poblano peppers — The poblano is ground up and mixed with the masa to form the dough. The cheese is the filling. I loved the poblano masa dough; the cheese was ok. I would love to see a tamale with the poblano masa and either bean and/or chicken for the filling. That would rock. Sweet tamales(in the order that I liked them): 1. Strawberry and beets — the strawberry is mixed into the masa dough and there isn’t any filling. It is almost like a dense strawberry cake. It isn’t very sweet, but has just enough sweetness and the subtle taste of strawberry. Very, very good. 2. Pineapple — tastes like a dense pineapple upside down cake. The pineapple is mixed into the masa dough. Like the strawberry tamale, it isn’t overly sweet. Very good. 3. Coconut — Good and the coconut is also mixed and baked into the dough. Tastes like coconut. The tacos… The tacos are the basic Mexican street tacos. They are available in either corn or flour tortillas. I’ve only had the corn. They are served with lots of shredded lettuce, onion, tomato, and cilantro. The average person could eat between 4 – 6 tacos for a meal. I’ve only had three of the flavors. Tacos(in the order that I liked them): 1. Shredded beef(in a red sauce) — Wow. Really good. Lot’s of flavor in a small package. 2. Chicken(in a tomatillo sauce) — really, really good. My wife’s favorite. 3. Potatoes with chorizo — really good and flavorful. This taco isn’t served with all the veggies – it is served with just the potatoes and chorizo. Tostadas The tostadas are crispy, fried corn tortillas covered with a smear of refried beans, shredded beef, shredded lettuce, a slice of tomato, onion, and white cheese. It is simple and yummy. I covered mine with salsa and ate it like a cookie. Overall, the Tamale Pot is simple and good. It isn’t fancy, it doesn’t serve chips and salsa, and it isn’t Tex-Mex. It is a casual restaurant serving upscale street food from Northern Mexico. So far, I have been impressed with their execution of their simple menu and will be going back to dine with them a lot.
