Authentic Mexican Food from Chiapas. Delicious! I was very pleased with the camarones con jalepeños marinated with garlic & olive oil served with rice & refried beans. Next time I come to the Capitol will definitely visit El Maya again! Great food great music great atmosphere!

Let me start by saying that Maya *was* a great Mexican restaurant. Fantastic, even. They served the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. However, in the past year or so, the quality of the food here has rapidly declined. I think they ran into some money issues and started cutting corners in a major way. I feel bad not eating here now because the owner is so nice and welcoming, but the food here is simply not good anymore. It’s such a shame, considering how great it used to be!

I went to El Maya yesterday for the lunch buffet. It was cheap, good, Mexican food. It was also relatively clean for a buffet. I’d go again.

May indeed be best Mexican food in town. Certainly there are unique options on the menu apart from the«boiler plate» menu found at most Mexican restaurants. Fajitas al pastor had a great combination of flavor. The mole sauce is billed as a cocoa sauce. It comes on sweet and leaves with a little bite. Took the 2 and the 3 year old and they did fine.

This place is GOOD! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my meals at El Maya, especially the Chile Colorado. This meal consists of carne ansada covered in red chile sauce, with rice and lettuce. Let me be the first to tell you that it is realllllllllllly good. Ive ordered the Chile Colorado three times over the span of one week, so I definitely recommend it! Their 12″ Super Burrito is also pretty good too, although I personally didn’t like the cheese poured on top of the burrito. The burrito itself was very good though, and huge! Visit El Maya people, you won’t be disappointed!

Please do not let the exterior looks of the restaurant fool you into passing by, El Maya is a sound choice for Mexican food in Springfield. I’ve had both the lunch buffet and dinner entrees and they both score well for my tastes. I might lean towards sticking with dinner entrees only because I like their mole so much which hasn’t yet shown up in the buffet trays. I grew up in California and traveled to Mexico quite a bit so I’ve become accustomed to all sorts of authentic Mexican and«Mexican» cuisine(by that I mean Chevy’s, On the Border, etc). My entire family all agreed Maya was tastier than any chain or even our local taco joints back in Central Cali. I should end by saying I’ve lived in Springfield exactly one month and have eaten at El Maya about 6 times, even introducing co-workers there. Yeah, I’ll check in again I think…

Tried El Maya again, this time for the lunch buffet. Hadnt ever had a Mexican lunch buffet before, but thought it sounded like a pretty brilliant idea. It was! Again, the people were super friendly. When we got there around noon it was pretty packed, but started to thin out after about 15 minutes. The buffet has a huge selection of Mexican favorites. Refried bean, two types of rice, chips and salsa, a make-your-own taco and burrito bar with all the fixings and lots of entrees like beef fajitas, stewed chicken, chili rellenos, quesadillas. I was STUFFED. At under $ 8 this is a killer deal. Also, I have a severe aversion to dairy products and I found more than enough stuff to fill me up. Dairy-free & vegetarians will have no problem. Love it.

Took the family to Maya Fusion for dinner tonight and had a great time. We ordered a bunch of tapas and everything was really great. The empanadas were tasty and interesting; the mexican«sushi» had a killer mole sauce; the fish tacos were very tasty. The favorite of the night was the taco al pastor which was so good that I barely managed to steal a bite away from the wife. Love their lunch buffet but this was really a completely different place at dinner and even more enjoyable. We’ve tried all of the Mexican places in town and there is none better…

Looking to eat Mexican? Go no further. El Maya and sister restaurant Maya are delicious. Maya has a lunch buffet with Ceviche and a number of other«just like my Mexican grandma cooked» recipes. Carlos the owner is a great guy who told us he has a number of his family’s secret recipes on the menu. Oh and the margaritas? I just got back from Mexico and I can tell you I was wishing I had one of Carols’s margaritas in hand.

In the capital for a night, I decided to splurge on some mexican, as suggested by someone at the front desk of the States’ Inn. I started with a basket of tortilla chips and salsa. the salsa was great! I ordered chicken and steak fajitas with onions, peppers, and jalapenos! WHEW those jalapenos we’re hot! The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is the décor outside, is not very inviting! Inside, I took a picture of a mural of Abe Lincoln wearing a sombrero. I wish I would have gotten a burrito too, but I WASSTUFFED!

Great. Best Mexican in town! Colorful and friendly casual atmosphere. A second location called Maya Fusion just opened further west on Jefferson too.

El Maya isn’t much to look at – even by cheap Mexican food standards. And I girded myself to choke down sub-par food after getting a basket of slightly-stale chips. But the pollo en mole was certainly passable. The mole was sweet and rich and very tasty. I didn’t eat anything else, so I can’t speak generally, but the mole is worth a try.
