Firehouse Subs

Better of the sub sandwich joints in Springfield. I actually favor the salads and their chili. Yes, it is sliced meat thrown on bread but the taste is good compared other sandwich joints that are bland. Is my go-​to sub shop.

Just ok sandwiches. Not at all what I was looking for. The subs were kind of small which I could live with. But it was the quality of the meats that didn’t seem up the level I was expecting.

Wasn’t busy so ordered and received our food right away. The restaurant was clean and had a good atmosphere. I ordered the Hook and Ladder chopped salad which was really good and had the salad dressing already mixed in but was proportionate. The kids kept saying how good their sandwiches were. My husband thought the person taking our order seemed irritated by my son changing the size of his order. I didn’t witness any of that. All in all we had a great meal.

i just had a salad, so that’s all i can really speak to. it was a bunch of lettuce in a bowl. i’m sure you’re familiar. i don’t eat meat, so they left all that off and in the absence of that, there weren’t many other toppings. just lettuce. with some fat free italian, i think, on it. it tastes exactly how you expect it would. like lawn clippings. not this establishments fault… i blame nature.
my husband, on the other hand, will eat cheese melted on dog shit, i’m pretty sure, and he loooooved his sandwich. he had the «veggie», which is a bunch of cheese melted on some veggies. he is what i lovingly describe as a «waffler», so we almost had to spend the night at firehouse when he was confronted with the over 100 selections of hot sauce there. he could not decide on just one and kept going back to the counter to try a new one. i thought it was neat to have so many, but seriously… it almost took him 3 hours to eat a sandwich.
he declared the sandwich the best hunk of cheese melted on veggies he’s ever had. said he loved all the hot sauce selections. he slouched in the front seat of the car, said he was too full to drive home, and threw the car keys at me.
i guess that’s a winner.

We have ordered there 4 times as take out. I called after the 2^nd time to let them know that the 2 times we have placed an order, both times the order has been wrong. These were not large orders, but did give them a chance knowing they had not been open long. When I went back for the 3^rd time, and only ordered 1 sandwich, they got it right, but this last time they got both sandwiches wrong… again. Not sure where the problem is, with the person taking the order or the person making it. When we called, they even said they weren’t even busy and couldn’t understand how they missed it. The one time my order was correct it was a good sandwich.

Outstanding sandwiches as always. I had my usual NY Steamer. I’m getting too old to order the large. I can’t afford the extra calories and besides the medium fills me up. I ordered the large anyway. I love Firehouse Subs!
