Well, it’s the third week they have not provided a menu item«Jerk Chicken Soup». I have been a customer for over 10 years, and visit there business weekly, every Wednesday. I wrote a review last week, and asked for a response, NOTHING. If they are out, then take it off the menu, how hard is that, if your supplier cannot produce, then get another one. But your business is built on what u sell and you are not paying attention. I am very disappointed that management cannot acknowledge a long appreciative customer.

This is my favorite HW location, though they’re all good. I love that they have veggie ham and turkey options! I can’t tell you how much I’ve craved a ham and cheese sandwich and being vegetarian, hadn’t had one in about a year. The veggie ham and veggie turkey options are both excellent! As the other reviewers have said, the service is laid-back, but I don’t mind. I’m not there for the service. The employees are super friendly and happy to make recommendations or answer questions. Veggies are always crisp and fresh.

There hasn’t been a time that Head West wasn’t a good choice. Friendly staff and filling, delicious food is a winning combination. Having the magic Coca-Cola mixing machine provides endless combinations. Enjoyed them before I was on Unilocal, now, and bet I will for time to come.

Easily the best subs in the area. Whether you get a Rueben, meatball or any other sub sandwich or even the chef’s salad. You will never go away hungry from this place. There«sweet bread» recipe is fantastic. When my friends visit Springfield, IL, I always take them to Head West Sub Shop.

Amazing sandwiches!!! Anything is worth getting as long as it’s on toasted sweet bread! Actually, my boyfriend and I have debated driving all the way from St Louis to get a sub from Head West… they’re that good! :)

I lived in Springfield for about 15 years and watched these guys grow from one shop to a handful. Apparently, they are now closing in on a double-digit number of stores. The wife and I used to refer to their product as «stoner subs» and it was my opinion that they made the best sandwiches in town. Naturally, when I found myself in Springfield and in need of a quick lunch I knew I had to get to one of their locations. If you’re a local you already know these dudes. You may prefer Monty’s but I won’t hold that against you. Actually, I will hold it against you — Head West makes far better sandwiches and the atmosphere is much more enjoyable. If you’re not a local, you need to know this: sweet bread is what you want unless you’re getting a reuben. In almost all cases, you also want your sub toasted. I really like their meatball, the turkey-bacon-ranch and the ham & cheese. Their vegetables are always really fresh and the employees are generous with the veges if you ask for a little more of anything. One last note… contrary to what you might think, you aren’t getting a pot brownie for a buck here or anywhere else. The Coca-Cola Freestyle machine was a nice upgrade from my last visit which would have been sometime in late 2012.

The best sub place I’ve ever had. You have to get Hawaiian bread though. After trying it once you’ll be hooked!

I always stop here if I need lunch or dinner while driving between St. Louis and Peoria. The subs are super filing, and every kind I’ve tried has been tasty. The employees have always been very friendly and ready with suggestions. Pros: service, speed, quantity Neutral: price

I have heard good things about this shop, so I decided to try it out(I’m from out of town). Got the reuben — it was huge! Very tasty, good portions! They have so many choices, and some options that you don’t see anywhere else. Will definitely have to come back before we leave!

So I just visited Monty’s subs upon recommendation but left a little disappointed compared to how much it was talked up. After a little Unilocal research, I found Head West and decided to give it a shot. BLOWNAWAY! Food was so good. Everything was noticeably fresh. I ordered the 2 for 6 $ deal and my half sandwich was still pretty big for a half and was overstuffed with the turkey and provolone. I also topped with all the fresh veggies that were offered and the sweet bread just made the perfect yummy storm to tame my hunger. I also got a bowl of the roasted veggy & radiatore soup which had a great flavor, odd pairing for July I know but it sounded to good to resist and I had no regrets with the decision. My only regret was during my visit to Springfield I only visited Head West once, they have lots of very appealing sandwiches and upon my next visit this might just be my lunch stop for the duration of my visit. Great place serving amazing food, super friendly staff, and cool vibe with this hippy-esque theme that sets the laid back tone. Service is reasonably quick, facilities are clean, and prices are reasonable.

Huge fan of this place! I have loved coming here since I was 18 years old and they only had one location. I’m happy for them for having the ability to expand and create a larger presence within SPFD. I really think its the bread, which is a bit sweet and really fluffy. If they opened one in Chicago, i’d personally keep them in business through referrals alone.

My friend that lived in town said, ‘we should try this hippie sub shop.’ We went a little out of the way to eat there and it’s worth it. I want to say it’s like Potbelly’s but minus the antiques, plus bright colors and if you up the employee weirdness factor by a factor of, oh, pothead you get the idea of what Head West is like. Nothing bad to say about the sandwiches though, they’re huge and well stuffed with meat and fixings and there’s plenty of fixings you can have. My friend ordered first and the guy asked him three times if he’d like his sandwich hot(he didn’t.) Not to say the service here is terrible, it’s counter service and they’re friendly, just the kind of funny stuff that goes on here. Anyways, the sandwiches are great-it’s one of the few places that serves Odwalla bars and they have the full line of Ben and Jerry’s. You know what kind of hippie sub place this is? They’re business hippies, dude!
