Skimping, skimping, skimping. They have a new special that’s $ 4.99 that includes a 12 inch turkey combo sub. However, what they don’t tell you is that this is not they’re traditional combo meal. It includes a sub with a «combo» of meats and that is it. The meat is as cheap as it gets. I believe they bought it at sav-a-lot and sold it. I have never eaten anything so nasty in my life. I love this place but if they will sell this to make money, then they don’t need my business. And combo normally means it includes a drink and chips/soup, but oh no. The«combo» is the combo of cheap meats on the sub. Nasty. Don’t waste your money. I will go to Jimmy Johns for now on, they at least use a high quality mayonnaise,

Food is good. Called the Springfield East main store and the people were very rude. I just told them to cancel the order.

This is exactly the kind of place you want to grab a delicious sandwich to go. A mom and pop type shop with affordable prices for GREAT sandwiches. The décor is your standard sandwich shop fair. The staff were friendly. It also seemed like it had its steady supply of regulars that come in every day to eat their signature sandwiches. One thing that sets this place apart is it has more than just sandwiches. Soups, salads, and burgers all fill out the menu to give you some options when you aren’t quite sure what you want. I had an 8″ traditional roast beef and ham with the works and I would happily have it again. I normally don’t like my sandwiches hot because I find places often over heat them and ruin the bread but this place serves them just right. A little warm and perfectly delicious. This is definitely the sandwich place to go to if you find yourself in Springfield Ohio.

I have eaten here for years and my favorite sub is the turkey with«the works.» The prices are good and the bread doesn’t taste as heavy as Penn Station. I’m glad they expanded and bought the old Quiznos in Northridge. I much prefer to support local restaurants.

I’d heard good things about this place from my friends in Springfield, so when we decided to make a day trip to the Air Force Museum in Dayton, I had to take a detour to check this spot out. It’s a bit of a ways off the highway for those coming in from 70 West, and it wouldn’t really be too far if not for all the lights. The outside, as well as the inside, aren’t much to look at, but that really doesn’t mean anything to me with some of the places I go to. They have a decent sized menu of sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers and more, but I was there for the subs, so I had to order the Italian. The soft drinks are a bit small here and there were a lot of bugs flying around the soda machine which was a bit of a turn off, but it happens. The sandwich was out within five minutes, and it was definitely one of the better Italian subs I’d had in a long time. It comes with a pepper relish that’s delicious, and the spices and oil and vinegar in combination with the relish give it a really nice tangy flavor. The bread was really good as well. From the outside, the place looks pretty chain-y, but I have to say the place definitely lives up to the other good reviews on here, and I was pleasantly surprised. Next time I’m passing through, I’ll make sure to stop again and maybe try some of the other sandwiches on the menu.

Holy crap! Best Italian sub I have had in a long time. We decided to stop in on the way out to Dayton and chose this place based off it’s reviews. I love Italian subs and have tried more than I’m willing to admit :) This sub was amazing and I am so sad they don’t have locations in Columbus. You are able to choose from a 4 in, 6 in, 8 in, 10 in &12 in sub. I like this concept a lot! Everyone can get as much or little as the want. Italian and multi-grain breads are available along with a huge variety of subs and toppings. I really don’t’ know what it was that made this so good. maybe it was their Italian dressing and herbs? Whatever it was was salty, tangy and extremely delicious. Their menu is really big for what I was expecting. Aside from all the different types of subs they have hot dogs, burgers and tons of sides. If this place was closer I would try more of their food. If you are ever near Or Hero Subs you seriously need to try it! I just ate a huge dinner and am craving another bite of this sub just thinking about it. Haha. over the top? Yes… but I’m 100% serious.

Ok so I think it’s really important to note that this location has more menu options because of the deep fryer. If you check the photos for this location you’ll see that there are more options than are listed on the Our Hero website. I tried the chicken fingers and fries tonight. Crunchy fried deliciousness from the special menu at the Plum St. Our Hero. Bep!

My favorite sandwich shop in Springfield! The bread is always fresh and toasted to perfection. The menu is pretty good for options including a surprisingly delicious hamburger. Others have mentioned the décor is not their strong suit and sometimes an employee over the years here & there did come off a bit shady, but the taste! Add in not having to dig deep into your pockets unlike their close competitor to the north– it’s a win!

I LOVEOURHERO. I’m completely obsessed with their turkey sub and I tell all of my friends they have the best fries in town(perfectly seasoned, with the right amount to of potato to crunch ratio). You must eat here!

They’re quick, cheap and amazing subs! I hate to say this, but I did find hair in my food twice. But I still order food from there. Best pickles I’ve ever had before. Random, but they do something special to them to make them amazing! I order here pretty much once a week. Hair or no hair, I’ll still eat it.

I decided to try this place out based on Unilocal reviews and I was not disappointed! I had to go inside to order because I couldn’t find a menu anywhere online(I tried posting a pic of theirs so hopefully it posted) even though I had to go inside to place my order the wait time was super quick so that was great! I ordered the cheese steak and my hubby ordered the traditional(the works no peppers) and they were both so yummy! The only reason they did not receive 5 stars is because their«medium» drink should have been labeled as a small.(It was a small) and the fries were frozen vs hand cut.(I’m guessing most of their sides are) All in all I will return for the subs!

Met some old friends here for a catching up lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The folks here were great; we stayed for well over an hour. I had a reuben, which was delicious. Fries were good, too. A bit off the beaten path, but worth a stop if you enjoy a tasty sub!

After having eaten her plenty of times and returning each Homecoming, I have to say our Hero is way up there in the sub market. They have healthy options as well which is a nice change of pace occasionally. When I was in school this place was the place to be and continues to be!

This was my first visit and I have lived in the area for over 2 years. Man, I have been missing out. It is nothing fancy and they have seating, but my guess is most do pick-up. There was a steady flow of customers while I waited for my sandwich and it was only a Monday night. If I ever want it on the weekend I will make sure to order ahead, because I bet they are packed. My sandwich was sooo delicious and made by pleasant staff. Unfortunately, I can’t remember its exact name, but I think it was something like«steak philly or philly cheese steak». Let me say that Potbelly’s Sandwich Works has always been my favorite, but Our Hero Subs has now taken that position. My usual complaint on sandwiches is that they are to dry. This one had the perfect amount of condiments and crunchy from toasting. There condiments are called«THEWORKS» and I choose that, excluding the onions(grilled onions came on my sandwich). That choice definitely topped the sandwich off and I will never get a sandwich there without it now. The drink cooler was pretty empty and the chip selection not to good, which they should think about, but since I will probably always do pick-up I can always stop somewhere else for those. I will definitely be back, back, back.

Our hero is always a go to spot for a quick bite to eat. I have been going their since I was a student at Wittenberg. The food is great. The service can be lacking at times. Disappointed to see they know longer have the great lunch specials.

I love Our Hero. Known affectionately to many Wittenberg students as «Ghetto Sub,» this little hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop is a godsend in the way of cheap, quick, and reliably delicious sub sandwiches. I have never been disappointed by a sandwich there, and when it comes to curing a hangover, Our Hero is CLUTCH. The interior of the restaurant is pretty dingy, with just a few tables and booths out front and a more private small dining area that extends into the back of the shop. The people working there always look a tad greasier than I would like someone to be who is going to handle my food, but the«ghetto» aspect of the dining experience is part of Our Hero’s charm. One time, I went there with two friends of mine who were significantly drunk even though it was the middle of the day(it was Saturday!) and the guy working behind the counter tried to sell us marijuana. We politely declined, but talk about all-around service. The Italian sub is a favorite of many of Ghetto Sub’s regulars, but I usually go for the Bacon, Ham & Cheddar. With any sandwich you can order the Our Hero signature accoutrements, known as «The Works,» which include lettuce, tomato, onions, peppers, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper(I think that’s it). An 8″ sub comes to five bucks even(perfect since the credit card minimum is $ 5), and its fulfillment factor could put any Subway Five Dollar Footlong to shame. I don’t hate Subway or anything, but if it didn’t exist anymore, I wouldn’t miss it. Our Hero, on the other hand, is one thing that I frequently find myself missing about living in Springfield. I think this little sandwich shop will always be one of my favorites. And for any haters out there who prefer its around-the-corner rival, Mike & Rosy’s, it’s probably just because you ain’t ghetto enough to appreciate Our Hero for the delectable dive that it is. Our Hero should put this slogan under their logo: «Ghetto Sub»: College tested, hoodrat approved. Special shout out to Tina for her help with this review, and for possibly being Ghetto Sub’s #1 fan.

Super good subs. We get ours baked a little longer, with extra pepper relish. YUM!!! The people are really nice, too. Don’t forget to get a bag of Good N Hot chips to eat while you wait on your subs…

Went here today for the first time with some co-workers. Good subs. I got the steak sub with extra peppers. It was a little too heavy on the lettuce, and could use more steak. However, it had good taste, the bread tasted fresh, and the ingredients in the sub seemed fresh as well. Only bottle or can pop, no fountain.
