Outland Bar

Bouncer attempted to take my ID after believing it was fake (I just dyed my hair brown from blonde). Still refused to let me in after providing a second form of identification. Will not return.

In addition to the same sentiments expressed in my last review, the Outland has stepped it up a bit. They no longer use the dark, rickety staircase to get upstairs! Instead, you enter through the lower level bar and use a wide staircase to get upstairs. The upstairs bar seems a little bigger than I remember, and there’s a smoking patio.
I still love seeing shows here when I’m in town… everything from small bands to local legends to packed tours.

I’ve had a lot of fun at The Outland before. I’ve also had some really crappy times there. It’s really a mixed bag, and honestly you never know what you are going to get when it comes down to it. They do charge a cover, but it isn’t typically more than $ 5. The nicest thing about going here is that you can usually swap between The Highlife and The Outland. On most nights you will have something from one side you are likely to enjoy. I personally prefer The Highlife over The Outland. I’ve found the service is a lot better, and I usually like the crowd over there.
Service is hit or miss at The Outland. It often depends on the bartender’s mood that evening. The biggest thing I dislike about The Outland is the bathroom situation. I realize it is a grungy bar, but if you are accommodating two bars it might be a good idea to put some work/​money into the bathrooms. You often have a stall down in the ladies room, and the condition of the bathroom is horrible. These bars have been in the Springfield area for years. I’m sure they are making some money. It would be nice if they put a little bit of that money into improving the condition of the location.

I was visiting my parents and my brother in-​laws daughter recommended this place. Thursday night…
— First, they have a «punch card». So many times there and you get a free ride. Weird but cool.
— Second, you get a stamp and you get into like 10 bars or so around the neighborhood. Interesting but cool.
— Third, TOTAL dive bar!!! I felt right at home :)
— And Fourth, The Detectives! They play Thursday nights and are sooo much fun. Dancing. Full, fun crowd. Very entertaining.
The negative star — Everyone obviously knew each other. I little clicky. If you aren’t very outgoing and uncomfortable being alone. Take a friend.
In fact, take all your friends. You’ll have a good time :)
OH, and there was a hotdog stand outside at the end of the night. I don’t recommend that!!!

Great place to watch a band. Nice small venue, but big enough to enjoy a group outing.
