Steak ‘n Shake

So typically I love their burgers and for the most part service is average. However, the last 3 times we have went through their drive thru, service is AWFUL!!! We ordered two single bacon cheese steak burger combos and added a cup of chili. One burger was suppose to be mayo, mustard, lettuce pickle only. It came the opposite, so I thought I had the wrong burger. Nope completely jacked up. We had to ask 2 times for the chili we paid for and side of cheese sauce. Anyway the drive thru service is AWFUL, sit down is average.

Steak N Shake and Red Robin are my two favorite Springfield burger joints. The only way they could be down graded in my book is if a Carl’s Jr, and an In N Out Burger came to town (Sorry I’m a SoCal boy, those two will always be my all time favs). Always great service, and great food. We have never walked out of here disappointed.

This was my second trip to this Steak ‘N Shake. My first time for breakfast. I ordered the California Skillet with sausage, my husband ordered the same but with chicken, and our daughter ordered the Country Skillet. My only complaint is the California skillet was a little dry. It needed salsa or taco sauce. It comes with pico de gallo, but it was not enough to make it moist. I would get it again but with the chicken instead of the sausage and with a side of salsa!
The service was fantastic as always and the food came lightning fast!

Great attentive service from both our waitresses. They kept checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed!

I read the name «Steak n’ Shake» thinking they would have STEAKS but they don’t. It’s burgers, fries, soda, and shakes.
I was thinking of writing a very precise analytical review as I usually do, but I’m just going to be as cheap & thoughtless (as much as I can) as Steak n’ Shake’s food is. So here we go:
Burgers & fried = tasted slightly better than cheap fast food. Lack flavor, even when I poured salt and hot sauce on it.
Shake = sucks! They serve you in a tall but skinny glass so that it appears that you are getting a lot because it’s tall. Then half of the glass is filled with whipped cream NOT the actual shake!
Don’t waste your time here. It’s just junk food.

Service was nice; a regular Steak and Shake with the expected food quality. My server was really nice and remembered things I mentioned and made suggestions accordingly.

Food was ok. Service was alright. We were told kids eat free but they failed to tell us that you may spend $ 8 to get a free kids meal. Since most of their meals are $ 4 and drinks are less than $ 2 its hard to spend $ 8 on an adult meal. Wish they would have told us this when they were playing up the «kids eat free» deal.

Paid the high $ 2 up charge fur bacon, but received no bacon. Then my 6yr old son spilled his shake, the woman behind the counter said they’d clean it up but didn’t offer a new shake. I understand it was his fault, but that’s poor customer service. Anywhere else would’ve given him a new one.

How could a place with «shake» in the name make such a bad milkshake?
I was on the road and felt like trying something new, so pulled into the drive through to survey the options. As one of the «premium» shakes at a restaurant known for this specific product, I thought I had this one in the bag. But no…
Probably one of the worst milkshakes I’ve ever had. Before I even put my lips around the straw, I noticed the styrofoam cup (I didn’t even know these were legal any more and yes, apparently this place is so cheap they won’t even invest in biodegradable containers) was coated in grease from the employee’s hand who made it. Nasty.
The shake itself was terrible. The ice cream was completely freezer burned, and tasted completely awful. There was no creaminess whatsoever– instead, it was grainy, hard and unappetizing.
I will never go to another Steak N Shake again. Bad!

Decent food, but i love Steak and Shakes!

It is true that there is no need for a host or waitress for this place. It is basically a Johnny Rockets with a dif name. It was actually nice to sit down and be served after working all day. So what if it was for a cheeseburger and fries. The waitress was the nicest most efficient person ever. Unsolicited napkins are always the mark of a great server in my book. Why do I have to ask, you know I am inevitably going to need one. So on that note A+.
Food was good. Step up from fast food, tasty and cheap. Steak & Shake — In!!!

I haven’t eaten in one of these for a long time. The chili tasted as if it came from a can. The grilled chicken sandwich was done correctly and tasty. OK for a quick lunch.

Oh Steak N Shake you let me down. You let me down in a big way. When I moved here I heard how great the food was and how the staff was attentive. I must say after my first and only foray into this well known burger joint I will not be back. There is an old saying that states «We eat first with our eyes», now that being said I ordered a BBQ bacon cheese burger with fries and a shake. The shake was very tasty and reminded me of hot summer days chasing the Ice Cream man down the street for just one more creamsicle. When I got the burger and fries that is where the happiness ended. The burger looked like it had been thrown together by an over eager professional wrestler. It was smashed, with an over abundance of chopped onions coming out the sides. The BBQ sauce was a little dollop in the center of the bun and was so thick that is where it stayed. It didn’t move once. The fries were shoestring thin which should have made for crisp tasty goodness, this however was not to be. Instead what I got was limp soggy noodles for fries. I went through the drive through and the service was average. I have eaten a few burgers in Springfield and were impressed by almost all of them. This was not one of them. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else… ANYWHERE else really.

Over the last few times I’ve eaten at Steak N Shake, I’ve come to the conclusion that the waitstaff for this chain is unnecessary. As it is commonly set up, one could order their meal at the register, pay, take their cup to the fountain and have a seat for their name to be called. With the kitchen so exposed to the dining area, there’s only a few steps from the booth to counter. The addition of a drive-​thru only supports the idea of having a fast food style of operation. It was this particular Steak N Shake that convinced me of it for sure.
The service was terrible. I sit at my booth, patiently waiting _​anyone_​to take my order, when lo and behold I see the three of them in the corner gossiping. I just finished an 11-​hour road trip; get over here and serve me. When one finally got over to my table, I gave her the full order which included a drink, a burger, and a shake. God knows when she’d get around for me to order again. She disappears for a while and seemed to forget I ordered a drink. When she finally remembered it, she took off before I could ask for a straw. I’m now at the point where I’m going from cooperative to directive. If you don’t know what you’re doing, I will tell you what you need to do. I get her attention and extract a dandy little invention of civility known as a straw.
I finally get my burger, which is nothing magical but does taste good with the help of those small peppers found on the table. More than one table was left to forage for their own ketchup bottle. The house wasn’t packed, and we all were lucky enough to nab one. Within five minutes, the bill is laid on my table with only the meal and drink on it. «Fine,» I thought, «I really need to get out of here anyway.» I finish what I want and head for the register. Only then does the server want to know about the shake. Sorry, I want to get out of here while I have the chance. I ended up going to Culver’s for a shake.

I wish this fast food chain was everywhere! tastiest fast food you can find anywhere… greasy and each item is probably 4000 calories but the taste is so worth it. make sure to stop by if you pass one

Uh what can I say about steak and shake, I think if you’re looking for drunk food after a night out and you’re tired of breakfast like waffle house, ihop, dennys or any of the other 24 hr restaurants. This may be the place for you. Service was great, friendly. Food was ok. Fries were quite tasty but as far as my burger was concerned it kind just was what it was, a 2am drunken bacon cheddar burger. shake was really good.

So, I find myself in Missouri on a work related trip and lo and behold, right next to my hotel is the Steak N Shake. Starving, since all I had all day was a measly half of a gross chicken wrap from the Dallas airport and I have been «en route» since 4:00AM in the morning I practically ran over here as soon as I was checked in.
Customer Service: The staff was friendly enough, but not super friendly. They did just fine in my book, but there was no «personality» really, but HEY, I came to EAT!
Restaurant: Large, clean and yummy smelling. Definitely worth sitting and eating in!
Food: I ordered the «Frisco Melt», fries and a Pepsi.
Pepsi — DUH! It is fountain Pepsi! — YUMMMAAAY!
Fries — The fries were sickly and thin looking, but they tasted great! Don’t let their appearance throw you off like i almost did!
Frisco Melt — Divine! It comes with a side of «Frisco sauce» (see: Thousand Island), but I barely used any of mine. The melt was great just as it was, a tasty steak burger melt practically dipped in butter!
I plan on sneaking back over here a couple more times to try their other steak burgers before I leave town… I took some pics, but I forgot my USB cable, so I will post them when I get back into town.

I’ve almost always hit this place up late at night with my friend. She and I will come here for a nice burger or a taco salad after a night of partying. It’s a great spot for those late night cravings and for bar-​hopping and cravings.
The staff here have always been nice, and usually very personable. They also keep the place really clean. The crowd, on the other hand, can be a little mixed since you’ll get people dropping in from I-​44 highway while they’re commuting, but it never really gets too crowded.
If you’re wanting a good steak burger and shake, then you should stop by here. Or, if you’re looking for a semi-​quiet late night dining experience, this is definitely the place to go.
Compared: to the one on St. Louis, this one has fewer «freaks» as the Springfieldians would call them; on S. National, this one does not have «yuppies»; on S. Glenstone, this one is cleaner; on E. Battlefield, this one has more variety in their clientele.
