Make no mistake, I love BBQ. I’ve had it everywhere. Whole Hog is very good. They proudly show off their trophies in the entry way, so they’ve had some experience in making BBQ. What I was the most curious about was their selection of sauces. They have 6 different sauces. While meat makes BBQ, and theirs is pretty good, sauce makes it fun. I got ribs with beans and home fries. My wife got a pulled pork sandwich with cheesy corn and potato salad. Her pork was very tasty and moist. The cheesy corn was okay, but I don’t care for that too much in general. The beans got better as I ate them, as they seemed a bit flavorless early, but they were pretty good as I continued eating. The home fries were good. The ribs were tasty and barky, but a bit dry. I made sure to try all 6 sauces. 1 and 5 were their molasses based sauces, which I prefer, especially #5. 2, 3, and 6 were their vinegar based sauces, with #3 being a spicy sauce. #2 was on par with Arthur Bryant’s in KC and #5 was similar to Joe’s in KC as well. Of all the vinegar based ones, I liked #6, the mustard and vinegar one. Good combination of flavors. Whole Hog goes for a more universal BBQ theme of good meat and sauces. If you don’t like sauce, you don’t have to use it. If you prefer a specific type, they probably have one you’ll like. Good stop.

Beef brisket was EXTREMELYFABULOUS! The potato salad was like no other potato salad I’ve had. Very original and treated great. The only suggestion is make for this restaurant is to add bbq sauce to the baked beans. This place is gluten conscious but doesn’t have gluten free bun or gluten free beer or cider. I would go back for more food to try. It is a little pricey but well worth it.

I went back again, before I leave Springfield. I had the burnt ends instead of the brisket and the potato salad instead of the beans. Both were outstanding choices. I like the fact that they only have the burnt ends at certain times. That means it isn’t sitting around because they made so much for the day. I called ahead and I was told that they were bringing out new burnt ends in an hour. Great place to eat!!!

I consider myself a BBQ snob! Tried to wait til we got to Memphis(on our way from Kansas City) to get the«Q» but we were needing food of some type. We pulled off the road and this joint was staring us in the face. It said«world champion» on the sign so I was sold. Was NOT disappointed! A good BBQ joint has really good BBQ, but a great one has that plus great sides! Great smoky, tender, tasty BBQ and some of the best sides I’ve ever had! Thank me later! =)

Great service, great food! We stopped in while road-tripping and enjoyed a quick and delicious meal without wandering more than two minutes from the highway. The place was dead, but it was mid afternoon on Easter Sunday. I imagine that this place bustles most days of the week. Great selection of sauces at every table, and self-serve water… can’t really go wrong here. Patio and TVs outside look inviting for a warm afternoon!

Ate there last night. Pretty solid, nothing spectacular. Sides were surprisingly good, especially the potato salad and I am NOT a fan of the stuff. Theirs was smoky, nice touch. Cole slaw was fresh and light in the dressing. Meat itself was good, especially the Texas brisket. Ribs were meaty and well done. I went with sauces 1, 3 and 5. Liked them all. Got it to go so can’t speak to service but I had no issues. Always try to do something local and this didn’t disappoint.

On our cross country drive, we missed out on Texas BBQ and were a listed disappointed. I am SO glad we found this place! First off, the staff was really helpful, and nice. The different kinds of meat were great(the chicken was a little dry). We really liked all of the different sauces. The cheesy corn, and potato salad was amazing!

I grew up on Texas BBQ so it’s hard for me to judge other places… that being said this place isn’t bad, the sausage is good with a little kick, the brisket needs some more smoke but it is tender and does the job. I would recommend this place if you have a craving. If you have 6 sauces on the table you are focusing on the wrong part of bbq… just saying.

Burnt ends and green beans are delicious. Great variety of BBQ sauces. Sausage was mediocre at best. I would go back, but skip the sausage.

Very nice. Good prices. I had the pulled pork sandwich. It was tasty, although the bun got in the way, if you follow my expression. The cole slaw was muy Bueno, not too vinegary. The baked beans had a nice smoky flavor, without being too much. The smoked green beans were good, but perhaps needed a touch more pizzazz. My table mate enjoyed the cheesy corn. For the lunch special price, I thought the servings were generous.

We’re traveling through Missouri and I wanted BBQ. I love BBQ. I grew up with great BBQ and I try to seek out something everywhere I go in the midwest and south. This BBQ was enormously disappointing. It’s not that I think it couldn’t be good, I just think the people working there didn’t care whether I had enjoyable food or not. We ordered take-out for our hotel room. I got the loaded baked potato with pork — a favorite treat! fluffy baked potato loaded down with cheese and butter and sour cream with tender and rich pulled pork on top? What’s not to love! Unfortunately this huge baked potato looked like it had been cooked yesterday and barely reheated. It was hard and starting to brown and get mealy, there was maybe half a tablespoon of sour cream, less than a teaspoon of cheese, no salt, no butter and the pork was just ok. On the dry side and not flavored well. I asked for some of their ranch dressing on the side(the menu stated it was homemade buttermilk ranch) and I was given three plastic packets of pre-made Marzetti’s. We also ordered a small side of brisket. Look, brisket is hard to do well. I know this. I order it a lot, always searching for delicious brisket. And this was not done well. Sliced like deli meat, dry, flavorless. I asked for two sauces after the nice woman on the phone told me there were options: the molasses-y one and the mustard and vinegar. I was given two small containers of a thin, spicy tomato based sauce. It’s like they weren’t even trying! We also ordered the cheesy corn with burnt ends. It could have been ok. But those were not burnt ends. The corn was very sweet, which is fine, but needed more salt with the cheese to balance it out. It tasted like dessert with meat chunks in it. The baked beans were pretty good. Super disappointed. I wanted this to be good. I knew as I walked in when the guy putting food in the window was acting annoyed and surly and the girl behind the counter seemed disinterested that I might be in trouble. Ah well. Live and learn! Hopefully I’ll find more good BBQ as we head West.

Not sure how this BBQ has received 3 – 4 stars on Unilocal, we travel a lot and this was probably by far the worst beef brisket, it was dried out without the sauce it was not eidble, sorry we’re not BBQ snobs by far far but this was a step above Arby’s roast beef for $ 31.49 for two! Never again probably should have travel a little further to the City Bucther &BBQ. Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. I love their sour cream potatoe salad. Mmm. Barbecue is great. Atmosphere is a bit lacking. Too quite. Manager was kind and even put on the fights for us after the counter refused.

I’ve had BBQ all over this country. Everyone has their preference. The food here was pretty good not amazing but worth it. Prices are super reasonable. If you like spicy number two was awesome. Ribs weren’t as juicy as some of these posts state but maybe they got a slab — I added two ribs to my sausage plate. Sausages were decent — not the best but not the worst. The smoked green beans were tasty but I think they me be canned and not fresh. I really enjoyed the potato salad which is sour cream based :)

Two of my friends and I are on our road trip back to Chicago and decided to stop here, we saw trophies on their window sills once we got close to the restaurant and got super excited, mainly because we were craving BBQ, we stopped in and ordered the Buddy Pak #1 which is supposed to feed 4 people, and it was only 3 of us, but we handled it. Lets just say the food was amazing and full of flavor. The buddy Pak consisted of one pound of pulled pork and 3 sides of our choice, we chose potato salad, baked beans, and cheesy corn! Everything was incredible. Staff is friendly, and the place is nice and clean. Definitely worth stopping here. You must try all of their 7BBQ sauces !!!

I think it’s hard to make BBQ stand out, because at the end of the day there are only so many ways to switch it up. We had Whole Hog catered for a baby shower(because my family is awesome) and it was really pretty dang good. The brisket was not dried out, even to-go, which I though was a pretty impressive feat. The pulled pork was very good. Smoky and tender. The sauces were good and had a good variety of sweet to spicy. The sides were the only thing I wasn’t really impressed with. They weren’t bad by any means, just pretty basic baked beans, cole slaw, and corn casserole. We would probably visit in store!

Whole Hog on Glenstone is a great place to get a BBQ fix. The meats are cooked to perfection while keeping them juicy. The sides offered are just what you want with a BBQ meal. I would definitely recommend the potato salad and beans to go with your plate. You’ll get a fairly moderate serving for the price. Which is exactly what you need. You’ll find your table dressed with quite a few sauce selections ranging from sweet and tangy to thick and spicy. The location is clean. The staff is friendly, professional and courteous. Not much more you could ask for if you’re looking for BBQ in Springfield. Highly recommended!

I’m a Texan, so I’m biased. I’ll just admit that right off the bat. The BBQ here was OK… not great, not horrible. I sampled the burnt ends(very midwestern) and had some sausage. Good flavor, but not breathtaking. There are tons of sauces. I had #2, which promises to be tangy, somewhat sweet — more of a generic sauce. It ended up being a little too vinegary for my tastes. If I’m back in Springfield, I will be back. It’s in a great location near a lot of hotels.

Where else can you find a baked potato the size of a football loaded with every yummy topping imaginable. Second only to Buckingham’s in my book. A must try. Also, try the hot links, they rock.

What’s better than being in BBQ territory, then getting your barbecue on? I find myself at a hotel down the street and when I asked the bellhop where I should go to get some BBQ, there was only one answer — the whole hog. I got To Go a platter consisting of burnt ends, pulled chicken, coleslaw, and oven baked potatoes. The burnt ends we’re good. The pulled chicken was fantastic. The coleslawwas good. The oven baked potatoes not so good(Cold?). So kind of an overall mixed review from me on this joint. Traditionally, it would have earned three stars. So why four stars you might ask? The service was fantastic! So here’s the real test: Was I satisfied? Yes Will I go again? No(so many bbq places, so little time!) Will I advocate? Yes if you want great service!
