I had the Greek Chicken special. It was moist and tender, cooked in its own juices, with herbs and lemon. The vegetables and potatoes were very tasty. Salads were fresh.

The eggplant parm and chicken parm are delicious. The waiter, Peter, is annoying. He’s not friendly, he stares at you while you eat, he only gave refills to 2 of the 3 people at our table. The food is a bit pricy. $ 4 for Greek potatoes which was just 2 potatoes cut in half and baked with seasoning. The baklava cheesecake is great though.

Lamb was tender, Greek pizza was awesome, great service. Many restaurants near by are gone, only this one is going well. Definitely come again!

Excellent food, great prices and always the best service. My sister and I make sure to visit Athena Café every time we are in St. Augustine.

Most of the restaurants in the old city area of town are amazingly good. Some not so much. This one falls in the latter group. Rather bland entrees, sub-par wine selection. Overall an sub-par experience with an above-par price tag.

This is solely based on the experiences ive had here with my family and i. Being local ive had the pleasure of enjoying athenas restaurant many times in the last year or so since we discovered it. Every time we go we order the basic gyro and it is huge and filling and always on point as far as flavor goes. The servers have always been polite. I have had so much greek food in my life and it hits the mark for me, although i havent tried much else on the menu other than desserts. Sad to see that the quality is reportedly going down as i have not been since somewhere around the new year. Good luck to this little gem they are capable of so much more.

Slow too expensive for their quality of food and service. I will never go back here however, I like greek food but its not the best option for sure.

The restaurant is in a great location, right in the middle of town so they get a lot of foot traffic. Regardless of the time of day we were in the area, we noticed a crowd of people outside waiting to be seated. The food was ok, worth trying if you’re craving greek food. But our waiter was kind of rude and seemed short with other customers and other staff as well. Based on other reviews, that seemed to be a fairly consistent theme about the rude service, they probably had the same waiter as we did. But to his credit, he did serve us pretty quickly.

Mouth watering chicken lime soup and gyro. This place looks deceiving but is really good.

As we were wondering around St. Augustine we stumbled upon this gem. My husband had been hungry for a gyro and he was not disappointed. His had french fries that were not as crispy as he would have liked but his gyro was delicious and hit the spot. Service was fast and the food was good. I enjoyed a small Cesar salad with blackened shrimp and it was just right for a light lunch and delicious too.

We are locals. My wife and and I eat out every day. At least one meal and frequently two are in a restaurant each day. We eat in expensive upscale places and in little sandwich shops. We appreciate that running a restaurant, big or small, is a lot of work and coordination. We try to adjust our expectations to the type of restaurant it is. Having said that, we always expect good service, good value(e.g. maybe expensive but worth it) and a polite staff. To add, I’m Greek and grew up on Greek cooking. Athena is a tourist Greek restaurant. It offers mediocre greek-like menu, over cooked, under seasoned, overly reliant on salad as a filler and over priced. It depends on tourists wanting a tourist experience, so like many restaurants in the area it doesn’t have to be good… just open. Our gyro plate was over cooked and dry as was the chicken soulvaki. The tzatziki was flavorless yogurt. Plates relied heavily on their version of Greek salad which was equally flavorless and uninspired. Where is the olive oil, the lemon, the cucumber taste? Where is the crusted meat with a soft and juice center in each slice? Where is the moist marinated chicken, flavorful and bursting with greek taste. Not here. Service is marginal… and why not. Athena Grill has a steady supply of tourists so they don’t have to be attentive or polite. They know they will likely not see most of these guests again. The quality of food and service is marginal. The value, what is paid for what is received, is less than marginal. We won’t be back and we cannot in good conscience recommend The Athena Grill to you. As the say in Greek
étsi kai étsi (just so so).

Staff was okay, food was okay tasting and slightly over priced. What really got to was not 10 min after I finished eatting, I couldn’t help but feel sick and ran to the restroom. The food is not worth going back for. The up side is I really did enjoy the humus, everything else not so much.

Decent Greek, the staff is rude. We tried to make a reservation for 8 and they said they wouldn’t take it. When we arrived, they asked for our reservation name… Smh. There wasn’t hardly anyone in there anyway. So we were seated immediately. Our waiter needed deodorant… Badly. But the food was good, and we had fun.

We’ve been here half a dozen times in the last few years. Wonderful place right in the heart of Old St. Augustine. Great location, great service and wonderful food! The gyro plate is a solid winner! Had chicken souvlaki and wish I had more of it now! Avgolemeno soup is a must have and finished with baklava cheesecake. Yes. Yes. Yes.

I love the food. They stacked the plate with food and I regretted getting appetizer. I didn’t have a problem with the waiter. I thought the service was great.

Finding ourselves hungry and within the vicinity of this Greek restaurant, my friend and I decided to give it a try, thanks to its Unilocal rating. We stood around waiting for a table, though not for too long, and were sat at a booth. We waited a bit to get a menu, apparently, there was some miscommunication as to who would be waiting on us. Once that was clarified, we placed our orders of the leg of lamb special. Once our meals arrived, confusion set in once again, as I was expecting an actual leg, like a lamb shank, not slices of lamb. I was not impressed with the seasoning either, as it was bland, and Greek food is known for being flavorful. Overall, for me, it was a «meh», as in it could be a lot worse, but it could also be a lot better, so I’d say it was average. My friend thought it was okay, but readily agreed that we’d had better back in South Florida. The desserts were great, however, and generously portioned. I don’t know if there is really such a thing as Greek rice pudding as I have never seen that on a menu — not in the U.S. nor in Europe — so the authenticity factor may be low, but it was very sweet and delicious, regardless.

The chicken gyro platter was really tasty with the perfect amount of tzatziki sauce. But the calamari appetizer. Dear Lord, why did you let us order that?! It was rubbery and fell into our vulnerable touristy stomachs like a pile of bricks. Never again. Service was ok.
