VERYCUTECAFÉFORTOURISTSANDSTUDENTSALIKE First impression goes towards its cute appearance; this stand alone building looks like a converted house complete with tiny fenced in patio for noshing outside. It looks more like a typical Coffee shop inside with plenty of seating. A LATTEFLAVOR = We ordered off their board for a Mocha Latte and a Peppermint Latte. Both were packed with that strong, syrup flavoring flavor. I’m typically an Espresso purist so I should’ve stuck to my roots but I didn’t like that fake flavoring too much. On the scale of Starbucks to authentic Coffee brews, I have a very strong suspicion this place is closer to Starbucks. Not bad at all… will probably actually appeal to the majority of Coffee drinkers. Just not for me. EMPHASISONTHEPASTRIES = Perhaps the Coffee wasn’t as great because the emphasis seemed to be on the gigantic Cakes at the counter and numerous other pastries. We didn’t order any of these but it seemed that’s what the majority of patrons in there were eating and seemed to be enjoying. I like how this place also serves alcohol and other Café items. This would be a great spot to relax – and indeed there was a good mix of students and tourists in there. GLUTEN-FREE, ALLERGICPYRASAYS = I didn’t see any obvious gluten-free dessert items in there. Pity or I would’ve totally given that a try.

Cute spot. We had coffee and desserts. Very tasty! Good selection of treats and they also have cakes. You can get it to go or eat in. They have some tables and a couple couches. The staff was very friendly so not sure about other review regarding staff.

The arrays of sweets and coffee is amazing. We shared the Reese’s cake, bailey’s bar and their signature dessert the chocolate turtle. All were amazing and not overly sweet. I cannot wait to return to try more!

We live two hours away and visit Saint Augustine at least once a month. The Chocolate Turtle is now a MUST for all future visits! I really wanted to try everything but I’d probably hurl from the dessert overload. I had the Cinnamon French Toast latte and Strawberries & Cream cake. My boyfriend had the Cocoa Cappuccino cocktail(hot toddy) and a Bailey’s brownie. Usually I’m weary of ordering sweet coffee drinks because some places pump it ¾ full of syrup. However, this latte did not taste syrupy at all and it was a wonderful balance of fresh, smooth coffee with a creamy cinnamon-sugar note. Although the strawberry cake could use more strawberries and the center was icy/cold, I was still very satisfied with it. Plus it was a generous portion that I saved for later. The Bailey’s brownie was fudgy and rich, which paired perfectly with the hot toddy! This place is now tied with Cousteau’s Waffle and Milkshake Bar for my sweet tooth cravings! They have great business hours so you can enjoy late night desserts and an outdoor patio for your pets.

Desserts are dry and expensive. What a disappointment. Go get a free cookie at the Hampton inn instead

The desserts, coffee and wine are good. The service is completely chaotic and I think«dip shit» is required on your resume. Get it Together!!!

Great coffee beverages and exquisite desserts! My Mom read that all desserts are handmade. There’s also a coupon in many in town maps. What I liked about this place is that it was still in a scenic area but off the main road of the heart of St. Augustine. The other cafés probably brew Starbucks coffee but The Chocolate Turtle is very authentic. It seems like a popular place for Flagler College students; it has a buzz of occupants but is still quiet. My mom and I enjoyed the mid afternoon sun outside. Great experience. And most importantly: very clean.

I really like this place but it still has some shortcomings. This is a desert restaurant, something I rarely see up north and which is special in a few tourist southern towns. I really love it and the general ambiance deserves 5-stars alone. They have big(I mean huge) cakes of several varieties, pies sometimes, and a few other deserts. And of course they have a full coffee and tea menu. Their coffee and teas are okay, but they are not as good as they should be. This is because the baristas are not trained to high standards that I’m used to. I would liken it to starbucks in fancy mugs. If they contracted with a better coffee and tea supplier, and learned how to make true barista-level coffee, I would say this was an incredible place. The space inside is a joy to sit in. It’s just so nice! People stop by to play board games or just chat. There is some outdoors seating as well. I will say that parking nearby is a hassle because the lot across the street charges like $ 10. But let’s face it, if you are coming here it’s likely because you are walking around Saint Augustine anyway. I would say this is a must-do for a non-alcoholic night cap. I love it!

The chocolate Turtle is a must visit while in St. Augustine. This quaint little shop is positioned off the main drag and it’s a quiet break from the hubbub of The Ancient City. It’s so pleasantly, aesthetically pleasing. The baristas are extremely friendly and make some kick butt coffee. They also offer craft beers and a wine bar for those so inclined. Not to mention brunch on Saturdays and Sunday’s with everyone’s favorite: bottomless mimosas. The barista even obliged my husband and I and made our lattes in our newly purchased Tervis Tumblers. But let’s talk about those desserts. The case is packed full of different homemade offerings everyday. From German chocolate cake to the local flare of a key lime pie, this place is sure to blow you away. And they make their own caramel on site. How cool is that?! I visited three times on my last trip to St. Augustine. Make sure not to miss out on this new little gem. It’s most definitely something to write home about.

I wanted to love this spot because it was quaint and has cake! But the hazelnut lemon cake was dry and not as grand as I had expected. My cappuccino was okay. We sat outside and enjoyed the night breeze and trolleys passing by with others. I like the front and back seating outside and upstairs seating has a walk by the kitchen where cakes are made. I knew I should have gone with the peanut butter cake when my cashier suggested it but I wanted something light. Oh well. Maybe another time. Staff was courtesy and prompt.

My favorite coffee and happy place in St. Augustine. I light up with a small smile whenever I come here. Coffee is perfect. The chocolate turtles are pure delight, and I hate most sweets. Eating al fresco is beautiful — cutest outdoor eating area. I love the open and clean space in this small yet utterly charming coffee house. The service is always excellent. One of my favorite places in St Augustine.

I had some more time to kill this morning so I gave the Chocolate Turtle a try again. I have been here a couple of times but just for coffee. A group of us met here for a place to sit and talk about an upcoming MSBC location. Like 2 houses down from here. Today I ate a breakfast sandwich or really their only breakfast sandwich. I went with bacon egg n cheese on a flaky croissant roll. Very flaky might be an understatement. It was very good thou just quite messy. The egg and bacon were cooked well and there was a good amount of cheese under both. In all it was a good sandwich and the coffee is not bad but I’m not a new kind of coffee drinker. You just can’t find any old school coffee anymore. I will say that their desserts look amazing thou. I can’t wait till we start working full time here so I can stop in for some of their sweets at the end of the day for the long drive home.

We stopped in for dessert. The interior is small but pleasant. We each had a brownie and we each asked that we be served ¼ and the rest be boxed. Our ¼ brownies were served up beautifully on a plate with a splash of whip crème. That was all I could have eaten! They were rich. Sandie had the salted caramel, I had the espresso. Coffee was fresh and flavorful as well. Nearby table ordered cake and the serving was HUGE! This is a great stop when touring St Augustine to share a quality dessert.

Stopped in to pick up some sweet gifts for my grand niece. The atmosphere is so cool! My blueberry scone is amazing. I’m still eating it. My coffee — mocha latte is wonderful! The desserts look amazing. Next time I’ll come later and have wine and chocolate cake!

HEAVEN. That’s the only way that I can describe the Chocolate Turtle. We first saw the sign and both of us reached out to it as if we were drowning victims. However it would be a bit later before we stopped. We had a bookstore to visit first. On our visit, we looked through the enormous cake case filled with hand made cakes: Salted Caramel chocolate cake, Vanilla Strawberry cake, Tiramisu and others. Everything looked so So very good. We both opted for something different. I chose the Salted Caramel and he opted the Vanilla Strawberry, both hand made and both were beyond delicious. And both left us with left overs! We also had hand crafted coffees: I chose a frappé, a chocolate caramel and the boyfriend chose a simple cappuccino, which came with beautiful foam art! We were delightfully pleased with the Chocolate Turtle and will most certainly be back. One thing to note? They make their own caramel. OMG! Ilove that.

What a cute charming house with a wonderful café filled with oh my goodness decadent desserts and dreamy coffee drinks, and craft beers, and wines. What more can you ask for? Inside or outside, you will be happy and comfortable. Before leaving town, we knew this was a must stop place. We were full as can be, but had to get the signature dessert TOGO. It was THECHOCOLATETURTLE!!! Xoxo xoxo omg!!! It was a ball of home made salted caramel lying on a bed of chocolate cake, covered in dark chocolate mousse then finally covered in chocolate ganache with a ring of pecans. Yes yes yes! That is all I have to say. It lived up to our sweet tooth and more. There are other fun desserts and drinks. Come here come here come here!!!

If you have a sweet tooth, this place is pure heaven. We walked in after dining a few doors down for lunch, and I was super happy(since I’ve read the reviews) this was on our way back to the car! I just had to stop in, and after a few oohs and ahhs(and pics of all of the amazing selections) we made a few of our own. Before I get to that point, I love that they serve coffee, wine and beer. The beer selection was impressive, and carefully thought out to fit with the sweetness of the desserts.(Lookin’ at you Old Rasputin!) Collectively, we ordered a chocolate croissant, the signature chocolate turtle, an iced coffee, double espresso and a latte. The iced coffee was mine, and had great flavor. It was perfect for a hot day, and while I didn’t get the type of blend/beans, it was smooth but still bold, and great on ice. It was a hard time fending Adam off of my cup after he finished his espresso.(I did let him have a few drinks, so don’t feel too bad for him.) The croissant went home with my mom, so after a few hours, I decided to bust out the chocolate turtle. He was a little beaten up from the ride home, but that did not stop me from scraping all of the chocolate and goodness off of the box with my fork. Just pure heaven. Perfect chocolate coating, a river of gooey caramel, definitely not the chewy ones from the store, but delectable, delicate bites of awesome. My biggest regret was not ordering more to take home.(I won’t be fooled again, LOL!) Amazing. 5 stars.

I can’t believe I haven’t written my review for this place! What a great find in St. Augustine! Back on Cordova St, away from the heavier traffic of A1A, is a quaint home that has been turned into this gem — the Chocolate Turtle. What is a Chocolate Turtle, you may ask… well I’ll let you in on the insider info, just make sure to save me one! A Chocolate Turtle is a delectable dessert of Chocolate, caramel, and nuts, balled up and covered in a choclate coating, with decorations giving it the appearance of a Turtle(as well as the combo being decendent of the traditional turtle dessert). This thing is amazing, very much like their many other selections. We’ve also had the white chocolate raspberry cake, twice. I’ve tasted the Guiness Cheesecake and Triple Choclate cake, and I can attest to their high quality as well. They don’t just serve desserts here — you’ll find your choice of coffee, wine or craft beer. Their hot chocolate is just the right thing when there is a chill in the air. Match that with a cake or turtle and you’re golden. The atmosphere is one my wife and I thoroughly enjoy. The little house is so inviting, the staff are wonderful, and the outdoor eating area right off the street is the perfect place for a sunny afternoon. Ah, now I want to make the trip out here to indulge once more. This is a must visit for any sweet tooth in the family!

As we were leaving St. Aug, we stumbled upon the Chocolate Turtle… Leah had mentioned how good it was and I could not resist grabbing something to take home with me! When I opened the door the first thing that hit me was the smell of wonderful coffee! Oh yum it smelled so good! The desserts are displayed beautifully in a case, I didnt have much time so I decided to go with the namesake The Chocolate Turtle, it looked so beautiful sitting there… well is tasted beautiful too! lol! When we dug in it was layer of choc cake on the bottom, caramel, and a choc cream(?) wrapped in a choc ganashe cover with pecans hugging the whole thing… just rich, decadent, delisiousness! It was an excellent made dessert and I cant wait to go try more of what they offer! Leah was so right! ;)

This place is amazing you can enjoy a nice glass of wine, a nice cold beer, a hot cup of a delicious cappuccino, or a nice cup of coffee. Along with the most delicious desserts that are made from scratch. This is my must go to spot when I visit St. Augustine. I took my daughter here for her 14th Birthday and she had the Turtle dessert with the Turtle Frappé which were a double trouble team of deliciousness. I really loved my coconut cake it was light and super tasty. The chocolate croissants are amazing here to. Also, because it was my daughter’s birthday they made sure to put Happy Birthday on the plating in chocolate. Also you can sit inside or outside, the place is so cute and precious. You immediately are drawn in when you come inside, because you are able to see a beautiful array of desserts displayed inside the café. The owner is super friendly and definitely makes you feel welcomed. So please add this to your list to check out, fellow foodies.
