I was in a rush and needed something small I could take with me for breakfast. «Go to Crème de La Cocoa» a friend said. «They have the most delish baked goods at their store». So off I went to discover the most decadent mouth watering desserts I have ever seen. Definitely something I could take with me but I’m thinking my friend didn’t hear me say breakfast. ha ha Their portions of cheesecake, truffles, cakes, domes and chocolates are enormous considering the very reasonable price. Actually, less expensive than the smaller dessert I had at Raintree the day before. Every single item they have is beautifully designed and it’s obvious the pastry chef takes pride in what he/she does. I have only seen such detail in French patisseries. Even though I could certainly eat it on the go, I had to really hold back from ordering the Smashing Pumpkin cheesecake as my breakfast. Lucky for me the sweet employees got me back on track and pointed out their fresh made muffins & guava pastries. So I ended up with a fabulous tasting huge guava/cheese turnover for my on-the-go breakfast that was different than the Cuban variety I am accustomed to. A great change of pace that was quite filling and perfect when traveling. I can’t wait to return for all their sweets at a more appropriate time of day next time I’m in town!

My first visit to Crème de La Cocoa was extremely unpleasant. I drove 40 minutes from Jacksonville to check it out because I read many good reviews about it online. My excitement was quickly crushed by the very rude cashier/barista, whatever you would call her. She acted like every question we were asking was incredibly laborious, bothersome and flat out annoying. When we asked what was in a certain cake, she responded, «it’s like the other one.» ??? Wait, what? I was dumbfounded by her answer. When I asked if she could split the bill 50/50, she rolled her eyes and said it would be the same if my partner & I paid separately. Um, last time I checked, $ 5 is less than $ 7. Yes, it’s a measly two dollar difference, but(I thought) it was a simple request. Businesses invest in expensive technology to make your jobs easier. If splitting a check two ways is difficult for you to do, perhaps you should find another job that doesn’t require even the tiniest bit of mental math. Maybe it was the distasteful service, but I thought the chocolates and cakes were«okay.»

Now this isn’t from their store in St A but at The Jaxson Night Market. I got to meet and talk to the owner and creator Nils. He brought a handful of his wares. Let me say wares that taste so good and such a guilty pleasure. His chocolates are so beautiful to look at you think that you might put them on a shelf in your dining room. I did get a handful and they are also so delicious. So creamy and the chocolate is the really good kind. I don’t know what kind or what brand or percentage or raw cocoa bean. I will be working in St. A soon and all I can hope for is that his store is on the other side of town. But I will stop in a time or two.

Absolutely loved it — tried 4 desserts, 2 types of macaroons and sea salt caramel choc candies. Everything was delicious, unique and… beautiful. Every dessert was accompanied by very delicate sweet sauce. I don’t like«lemony» desserts but lemon/white choc mousse with hazelnuts served over blueberry compote is a real masterpiece. Highly recommend, will be back for more. PS They share premises with DOS café
