Went here the other day because we had a coupon. Very very good sushi for all kinds of people. Had 5 different roles and they were all good. Our coupon was expired but they still took off 10% off the bill and even gave us a $ 20 off coupon for next time. Workers were very friendly and came to check up on us every 5 minutes or so. This location used to be another sushi place called Sushi Yama. I personally like Shima’s way better!

This is one of those reviews where I would give 5+ stars for food and 2 for service. First, the food. Everything we ordered was freshly prepared, sauces were thoughtful, not just opening a bottle of whatever and putting it in a little cup. Hubby’s birthday and he is very fussy about his sushi. We shared Crab Rangoon which were like tiny egg rolls, freshly made and –wait for it– they had CRAB in them! Also Goyza, light as a feather and delish, and octopus salad. hubby had that one to himself, I don’t eat it, but he said it was very good and a lot more than he expected for the price. He had a Soft Shell Crab Roll as his dinner and 4 pieces of tuna sashimi. I had the Panko Shrimp which came with soup, salad, stir fry veggies, a pork egg roll and veggie fried rice. LOTS of good food. The bill without tip was $ 58, we pay twice that for less at Swordfish. I am not going to belabor the bad service because the goodness of the food outweighed the poor service. Just leave it that we had an older gentleman who may have been hard of hearing and kept forgetting things we had asked for. When my dinner came I asked when I was going to get my soup and salad, ugh! We will definitely dine here again and often and maybe try to avoid the older gentleman’s station. But I do highly recommend!

It was good that Shima got a restaurant on the east side of Saint Charles. He has the best Japanese food in town. I went there and got some deep fried shrimp and fried rice. Both were great and in my opinion much better than Ju Rin.

I very much do not want to post this review. Not sure what happened tonight but I’m hoping it’s just an off night… Although it was Really off. They may have had staff call In sick? The two people on the floor were frazzled and the place was a mess. The sushi chefs just watched the chaos. We left before getting a chance to order. Disappointed. Sorry.

Shima’s Sushi Japanese Restaurant in the old Sushi Yama location. It isn’t bad. Prices aren’t bad either. Fresh fish is fresh as it should be. No fishy smell. Two shrimp appetizers(one garlic, one egg) were both good. Three rolls we sampled, shima’s 1, 2, and 3. Not very creative names but very good. I’d go back again to try some of the other selections. Won’t be disappointed.
