THESIOPAOHEREISTHEBEST! No one makes siopao like Tita Edith does. So sad to see her leaving though. This store will be under new management soon. As for the reviews about the«old Filipino woman no manners» cut her some slack. She’s the only one managing the store. All of her breads are homemade and if you’re lucky, you may get the ones that are fresh out of the oven!

I’ve known about House of Breads for a very long time. As a kid my mother and I used to go in and we’d buy a few things from there, and I have always loved what we took away from the store. I decided to go recently to buy some pan de sal after work one day. I’ll admit that I got there a little late(around 6pm), but even standing in front of the door, I could not read on the sign what time they closed for the night. I asked the man loading a truck if they were still open, and he said they were. I said I only wanted to buy a bag of a dozen pan de sal. The guy walks back inside and gets a bag, all while I stand there awkwardly avoiding the harsh stares of the other guy behind the counter. I have my bread tossed to me and I was given my total, all while continuing to receive the gazes of what was now two very hateful pairs of eyes. I know I’m not breaking the bank with my huge order of 12 rolls for $ 2.50, and I realize they may or may not have been closed, but I was in and out in 3 minutes and I was as friendly as I could be. On top of that, the man loading the truck could easily have told me that they were closed and I would have been fine coming back some other time, but he said they were still open. I did not deserve to be treated that way. Needless to say, I’m pretty sure I can find pan de sal somewhere else in Houston that is just as good.
