Food was out of this world good. The sashimi was fresh and melted in the mouth, the kids loved their hibachi plates and talked about them for the rest of the night. The one big down side was the speed of the sushi roll we ordered. We ordered the volcano roll at the same time we ordered our food and it took so long to get it we were done with the soup, salads and dinner even after the plates had been cleared we hadn’t received the roll. We ended up getting it in a To go box, would have loved to have eaten it when we ordered it but it too was good

My little and I used to love coming here for a gals dinner. Their sushi is AMAZING and fresh. The fried rice is good, too. It’s just an amazing place for sushi.

The food was good. Well prepared, great taste and good presentation. Big problem was the limited English understanding/speaking of our waitress. If you know your sushi/sashimi, you are good to go. When I got my bill, it was exorbitant and upon review when I asked questions and ordered I was up charged and given something«different» than what I ordered. Our group was leaving, so just paid and left(my bad, not their’s). My otherwise $ 20 check was $ 34… Again, if you know your sushi, you have no worries and I would otherwise recommend it rather highly.

I ordered the sashimi appetizer and it was fantastic. If you’re looking for good sushi this is a great place. The only reason I dropped it to 4 stars is because I also got the teriyaki salmon bento box which left a little to be desired.

I’ve only had takeout, but the salmon was buttery and fresh. You can’t ask for anything more than that! I’m so sure that my readers know me well enough to know, salmon sushi is my favorite food in the world, and if I give five stars for salmon sushi… you need to go to there.

Quite yummy, perfect lunch special portions, fast service, accommodating for our kid. We had a shrimp teriyaki bento box(yum!!), the 2-roll special with spicy tuna and California, and two orders of Gyoza for the kid, who gobbled them all right up. The servers were very friendly and helped to entertain our child. We’d definitely go here again!

I ordered an salmon box, and a soup with sea weed, very yummy! It’s worth a four-star ranking.

I came here because I needed a quick lunch and it was across the street from my hotel. The building looks odd and the parking lot was completely empty, but I went it because the reviews on here were so positive. I ordered the teriyaki shrimp bento box. The salad was a small bowl of wilted greens drenched in a flavorless dressing. When the bento box came out it did not look very appetizing. The shrimp was drowned in sticky, sweet teriyaki sauce, the rice was dry and the sushi was ok, but nothing special. I don’t know why this place receives such high praise. It was merely edible.

Not terrible, but a bit expensive and the service was not particularly great. Their menu is not very vegetarian friendly either, it would be nice if they could include some meat-free options.

Awesome lunch specials, quick and delicious. Have not been here for a larger meal but I enjoyed the soup, and the different kinds of sushi I have had so far. I would recommend this place.

This place started out fantastic. Prices were high but the quality of the meat and sushi were a step up. Recently the meats have slipped. And the menu has become smaller. I will not pay the extra anymore.

I just ordered the dumplins, delicious, not greasy, nice crunch, i liked the presentation of the plate. The waitress was very nice. Yellow tale jalapeño was tasty, good texture, the spicy was just in the right point. The titanic roll and tiger roll totally recommended. My son ordered the classic California and Philadelphia, both were delicious. Prices are to high compare to other asian restaurants in the town.

This place has been here for a few years which is surprising given the quality of the food when I went. In the middle of PA you dont expect to find the best sushi but some standards like cleanliness, skills in cuts of meat and rolling, and freshness of meat are important. I ordered a roll with salmon and there were scales EVERYWHERE. It was disgusting and ruined my meal. Scales are pretty easy to see and part of the prep process so if they are missing that… what else are they missing? bacteria? gross. The rolls were also not assembled well and kept falling apart. I didnt get sick but I never went back.

I had high hopes for Sakura after reading all the positive reviews, so came in for the lunch special. What was so special about it? Well, I’m sure it was special for the restaurant, because they made a lot of money off of food that just wasn’t worth the price tag. The food definitely wasn’t special. It was just… meh. Not actively bad, but not good. No flair, no flavor, pretty bland overall. I’ve had better, even in State College. We got 3 sushi rolls, miso soup and a seaweed salad. Best part was the sweet potato roll. Worst part was the miso soup, since it was obviously made with fish and gave my date a stomachache.(Or was it the seaweed salad that cost $ 5 and tasted really«off,» like it had been sitting around for a few days?) Other points: –The atmosphere inside is kinda dark and dingy. –The server wasn’t all that friendly or helpful, and didn’t even check in with us during the meal to see how it all was. –They’re BYOB, which means they don’t serve alcohol. They should really get a liquor license. If they could have served us some sake, we probably wouldn’t have noticed just how«meh» the food really was.

This place came recommended to me by the hotel front desk across the street. Before I went, I looked at the reviews and got my appetite up for some sushi. Boy, was I disappointed. I had the Sushi Dinner, which sounded like a combo plate. It was a combo plate, but of only of 5 different kinds of fish(it was 9 pieces). The pieces of fish were so big that each were a big, chewy mouthful, with very little rice beneath. The roll that came with the meal, was a tuna roll. The seaweed wrap was stale and chewy, and the flavor was not fresh. The soup and salad were just so so. I only ate half of what I ordered, except for the edamame, and decided to bail. I wouldn’t recommend this place, nor will I go back.

We visited the restaurant while visiting my son at Penn State and we liked the food, sushi rolls were good. I liked the best the one with sweet potato that is very tasty Only bad thing in my opinion is that the spicy rolls were not really hot! Also that they didn’t have the ice cream rice cakes that we read on menu :( Service ok ambiance is nice. Overall good place is you like sushi.

It’s good sushi(for State College). Good but nothing spectacular. Definitely better than supermarket sushi. The 3 roll lunch for 11 bucks and change is a pretty decent deal. Not a fan of the nonchalant staff. I understand this is not fine dining, but friendlier service would be nice. Tip: Lunch specials run Mon-Sat from 11am to 3pm.

Don’t let the abandoned Shoney’s look on the outside fool you, Sakura is Tier 1 on the inside. I think this is my new favorite sushi in State College, and the fact that it’s 2 seconds from my house only ups the ante. The only downside is the waitstaff seems a little confused if the orders get a little crazy, and it’s expensive. But who cares? They’ll bring you an entire barbecue squid.

This little gem was an unexpected delight for the tummy. The service was a bit«blah» and not really worth commentary positive or negative — but the food was a treat, Went here for Lunch, and took advantage of the«three roll special» as well as throwing in an additional«specialty roll» that totally exploded in my mouth! Quick, pretty and very, very fresh — certainly not what I expected when away from any major bodies of water. This is well worth a stop over if you’re looking to enjoy a bit of a roll feast.
