We went out yesterday, friday January 29th to Los Toltecos. We were a party of 7 and our wait was close to 2 hrs. The hostess kept saying that they only had tables of 4 and 2 available. That I didn’t quite understand why she couldn’t put 2 of those table together. When our wait hit an hour and some change I asked for a manager. I spoke with Salvador and explained to him the situation and he immediately found us a table and offered all the adults a round of Margaritas on the house. That is service and that is why we prefer the sterling location. After the long wait and everything we had great service, wonderful food and a blast! Thank you Salvador for everything!

Sigh — I guess we’re in the downward spiral of Mexican joints around the area. They seem to rise and fall together — Though Los Toltecos seems to never rise very high before falling again. This weekend was absolutely one of the worst experiences we’ve had. Granted, the experiences are never great, so I guess we’re the fools for continuing to return. We continue our streak of messed up orders with this visit — This makes four in a row. The server could have cared a less that we were there. She didn’t listen to us when we were ordering, and as a result screwed our order up. When the meal arrived we were missing several items which we had to flag down another server for. A perfect example of how little the server cared was the order of guacamole. We ordered a bowl of this directly from her in between ordering and waiting for our main courses. It was one of the items that never came. When I inquired about it, she asked, «You want guacamole?» Um, hello?!? You took my order for it, so yeah, I want it. Duh! The whole problem probably wasn’t helped by the fact that the server kept walking away when we were in midsentence. To add insult to injury, it seemed her real desire for the evening was to plunk her behind down on a stool next to the register. Mind you, she wasn’t working at the register. Just sitting next to it. I guess working was an inconvenience for her that evening. Saddest of all of this is that Los Toltecos food is actually really good. Which is why we’ll take a break, and try again later hoping that things get better. But, like I said, things never rise too high here. I guess it just ranks under better the evil you know than the evil you don’t know. How sad…

Met up with C and J for dinner. Parking is available in front of the restaurant but it can get a bit tight here. I love the ambiance of the place, laid back and very festive. The day I visited, there was a mariachi band playing. The tables, chairs, and décor are super colorful and fun. Service could have been a bit more attentive. We had to ask for extra napkins, refills on our drinks, etc. Our server did refill everything eventually. Their complimentary chips and salsa are quite tasty. It’s fresh and tastes homemade. C highly recommended the Arroz Con Pollo. It was delicious and the portion is generous! Lots of grilled chicken and veggies. There were pieces of pineapple in here as well which was a nice surprise and worked well with the dish. It comes with tortillas, lettuce, and guacamole. I asked for some sour cream and was charged extra for that. The Fried Ice Cream was a nice way to end the meal. It’s huge! Definitely a dessert you want to order for the whole table to share. I wouldn’t go out of my way to dine here but I’m glad C and J suggested we meet up at Los Toltecos. The food was OK, but the company was the best.

This is one of my wife and I go to Mexican restaurants in the area. We’ve always have great service and the food is always hot and good. Their margaritas are excellent and this is a good location. Outdoor seating in the summer is nice.

Have had Los Toltecos for take out and eat in more than a dozen times and tried a significant part of the menu. I will agree that the service is spotty and I have had mistakes on my dishes more than once. The food has been in my opinion excellent and I feel the same about Plaza Azteca in Sterling. I typically get the Chicken, Steak, Chorizo Cheese and Onion Fajitas — Awesome… The Drinks have been great. Chips and Salsa are always flowing, they have managed us with 3 –4 families and our sometimes insanity(sorry to other diners if we were a little loud:)) Everything has typically been well above par or better. Great portions and large dining areas. Also have been for lunch and service and food quality has been great. The one thing I cannot comment on are the desserts — have always been too full.

Great food for a good price. Cheap Margaritas and good service. Atmosphere will make you feel like you are in Mexico. Can’t wish for anything more!

Food is very good. Very good drinks too. Gave it 3 stars for the smell inside. They need to get some kind of ventilation system or open the windows in the kitchen. The whole restaurant smells like a grease house. Walked out smelling like it too. We’ve ordered take out instead many times.

I have been here 2x before and it was nice. Last night was a spirit night for my kids elementary school! And I must say the food was amazing and the margaritas were delicious! And the staff was just down right awesome! They handled our group with patience and greatness! If your looking for great Mexican food look no further!!!

Not sure what the hype is about this place. It was«okay» at best. Service was slow, while place was not busy. Server had no personality. Food was nothing to even note. Pretty cool environment but doubt we’ll be back. I only came after reading reviews as I’m new to the area and was craving Mexican. I guess it’s just all about where you have lived and experienced more of an «authentic» dish.

My go-to spot for margaritas with my girlfriends during the week. They have great specials throughout the week. Tuesdays and Thursdays are margarita deals & then there are beer deals on Mondays and Wednesdays. I’m sure there’s specials for Friday-Sunday as well, but I’m not sure what they are exactly. Their margaritas aren’t necessarily the BEST — a little on the sweet side, but two of those babies and I got a nice little buzz going on. The food is mediocre at best, but it’ll provide you your Mexican fix. I always just get the kid size carne asada note: $ 5 plus a $ 3 surcharge for not being a kid :(. The portion is perfect for me though! They have the tacky Mexican décor going on, but who doesn’t love that?! They sometimes have a mariachi band singing table to table, which can get kindaaa loud and annoying after a while. Service is pretty good depending on how busy they are! So, basically don’t come here expecting the most amazing meal or drink of your life. But it’s cheap and convenient for me!

We came here early on Saturday for my sister’s birthday {and she couldn’t believe we had never been here}. We started with the free chips and salsa and I was actually a bit surprised by how mild the salsa was {but I downed them, nonetheless}. Drink order consisted of a strawberry daiquiri. That thing was strong, it’s a good thing my mom decided she wanted to split it… Now for dinner. Got an order of the Arroz Con Pollo without the zucchini. Oh my word. I can see why it is considered their most popular chicken dish. I didn’t even put any of the filling in the tortillas offered, just ate it straight. The chicken is perfectly seasoned, the veggies are cooked to perfection, and that rice, THATRICE. The pineapple was a perfect addition, sweet to balance the salts and other complex flavors of the dish. And it’s still as delicious the next day. We will definitely be coming back here.

As a native New Mexican I can be quite picky about«Mexican» food outside of the SW or actual Mexico. But I like this place! My boyfriend and I usually split the Texana Fajitas because the portions are huge. One time I ordered tacos at the Winchester location and the tortillas were soggy, probably because they served them wrapped in foil– even though I was dining in. That is the only time i didn’t like my food. They have seafood which is actually what Mexican food is about– a lot of people think it’s just beans/tacos/burritos but really shrimp is a big part of the cuisine. Anyway, it’s pretty good here at Toltecos, it’s not like«blow your mind» good but it’s tasty :) Update: I had the Arroz con Pollo last weekend– YUM. I think this might be my new favorite, delicious sauteed squash, peppers and pineapple with chicken served over tasty rice. $ 5 margarita specials on the weekend

Love this place! Mexican food is my favorite and this is my favorite place to go for it. Leo is the best server, hands down! But they are all fantastic servers really. Everyone is always so friendly and happy, with great service. Try the chimichanga and the Tacos Al Carbon — fajita steak, with pico de gallo and lettuce, tomatoes, and guacamole on the side as well as the beans and rice. Soo delicious I have been coming here for years and just tried it, I’m mad I didn’t try it sooner!

Full four stars to this yummy Tex-Mex restaurant! Our server Lou was off the charts stellar! He was on his game the entire time he took care of us– he was super quick, efficient, he took good care of taking away used plates and glassware as finished and wasn’t overly obtrusive. We found the chips to be warm, crispy and endless. Salsa was very tasty. The three of us had different takes on the fajita skillet– chicken, steak, shrimp, flounder, scallop, all had came out sizzling hot AND stayed hot in temp. till the last bite! My hubby had the tacos and loved them! All around great meal and service! Tips: 1. All day Friday and Saturday is $ 5.00 margaritas! 2. Ask for Lou who is stellar with service! 3. The menu is quite large I’d suggest either a house speciality or one of the fajita skillets!

A few of my girlfriends and I came here for some drinks and dinner a few nights ago and we had a great time! Apparently every Wednesday they have a mariachi band come play to everyone in the dining room. Personally I loved it! It was fun and something you don’t get to see everyday, they went to each table and played for you, if you wanted it. But honestly who doesn’t want to be serenaded by a mariachi bad!!! But if you don’t like that, maybe don’t go Wednesday’s! We started with some margaritas, I got the«Cadillac margarita» which has layers of sangria and frozen margarita. Yummmm!!! It was sweet and sour and just amazing! I got the arroz con pollo, chicken and rice. It also has veggies and comes with tortillas, sour cream and guacamole. It’s my personal favorite thing on the menu! I’ve tried the chicken casadillas, chicken burrito dinner and the chimichangas, and I’ve never been disappointed. I love this little place, it feels so authentic and the food and drinks are great!

Best Mexican restaurant in Northern Virginia. This was my go-to spot until I moved farther away. I like to judge a mexican restaurant based on their fajitas– simple, but surprisingly hard to make perfectly! Los Toltecos always has delicious fajitas– nowhere else can compare. The complimentary chips and salsa are also delicious and you have to try their queso. While you’re at it, order a few strawberry daquiris and you’re set! Prices are reasonable, staff is very friendly. There is a bar with a tv to watch games(usually soccer games) and plenty of seating. There’s a patio so that you can sit outside in the warmer months and there are daily happy hour specials!

It’s so hard for me to rate Mexican food because I love it so very much, all types, no matter how Americanized. Some say«I like my men how I like my coffee» — I guess mine would be, «I like my man how I like my enchiladas». Hot and fart-inducing. Los Toltecos is wonderful, both hot and fart-inducing. They have this seafood enchilada entrée that is to die for, I get it almost every single time. Scallops smothered in queso — yum! As I sit here eating an apple cinnamon croissant from au bon pain, I’m really just fantasizing about Los Toltecos’ breakfast-focused items!

On a Friday night, we expected a long wait but we actually got seated right away. The décor is vibrant, colorful and tons of artwork, except our table’s artwork scared me. It was a girl laying down and someone with a knife over their head, about to stab the girl. Not sure if this is what I wanted to see when I’m eating but besides that there is alot of culture in the restaurant with the tables and chairs carved with art. Of course the first thing that comes to our table is the beloved chips and salsa. YUM! I really liked the salsa, it was not spicy but had a bit of heat and the chips were actually warm. My fiancé ordered the sangria margarita and I ordered the blue margarita. Friday nights are $ 5 margaritas so we came on a good night. I liked mine, it was really strong so 2 of those would of had me giggling a bit. I also enjoyed the sangria, it was sweet and not as strong. For entrée, I decided on the flautas mexicana, which is tortilla wrapped with chicken and beef and then fried. It was good, very crispy and the filling was overflowing with meat and vegetables. It was just okay for me, nothing special. I’ve had better flautas. For $ 11 it was overpriced and not worth it for only 4 pieces, should have been maybe $ 7 or $ 8 at most. My fiancé ordered the Chori Steak which is a steak with chorizo and cheese sauce on top. I really liked his dish, I wish I would have gotten that. The steak was cooked more to a well done but the chorizo on top was what made the dish. The mexican rice and refried beans were good. Now for dessert, of course we ordered the flan and tres leches. Yes, we are fatties. The flan was ok, I was expecting something better. It didn’t make me say wow. The tres leches was ok also, the cake was actually hard, it wasn’t soaked in the milk long enough. Most places I go to with tres leches the whole cake is usually soaked in the milk mixture, this one was a bit hard on top. I was disappointed in the dessert and thought coming from a mexican restaurant, it was suppose to be the best part of the meal! Boy was I wrong. Overall, I would like to try it again and get maybe the fajitas or burrito next time. But the prices just looked overpriced for most the meals. The service was decent, we were looking at him towards the middle to end of the meal, he disappeared. Nothing special with service either. Hopefully next time the food is better with whatever I get especially my desserts!
